A LITTLE OF EVERYTHING OCEAN! I have been shopping at Ocean Outfitters for years now. When I first started there, they had a single storefront​ with a mix of all things ocean. Now they have expanded to two storefronts making this shop a staple in downtown Southport with an expanded shoe section. They offer all things ocean and outfitter such as flip flops, summer shoes and rainy or winter boots, hats, beach bags, cosmetic organizers, sunglasses, all things YETI, keychains, bathing suits​,beachwear​r (Vineyard Vines, Simply Southern, Northface, Columbia, Prana, Scout and more. Their products are top of the line but so are their prices. That's why I gave 4 stars instead of 5 stars. The staff is professional and courteous however this is a higher end store with quality t-shirts for tourists. There are sales but for the most part, you pay full price. I wish that wasn't the case but if I don't feel like driving to Wilmington for these items, I do my shopping here. I recommend this store but be prepared to pay full price. read more

Went there on a Wednesday and the store was pretty much empty. The staff was not welcoming. One staff member had an attitude about my service dog. My dog was not bothering anyone and was not near the merchandise. She asked many inappropriate questions about my dog and clearly was mad that we were there. I left immediately and will never return. read more

Stopped in yesterday my daughter is visiting and wanted a shirt. Place is big and a huge selection. Prices are on the high side for sure. I found the employees to be friendly unlike other reviews. It was very busy inside on a early Saturday afternoon. Parking is rough, so plan on walking a few blocks. read more

Our second visit to Ocean Outfitters. We visited last year and again today. My two visits really command a one star experience in general. However, offering a two star rating based on the depth of their inventory and the fact it was clean. I found their prices high and the level of engagement / friendliness of the staff as poor. The staff was just aloof at best. Kind of a surprise in this small community of friendly retailers. Each visit included collective purchases of over $300.00. Not big shopping experiences but I assume relevant based on the apparent merchandise markup. Neither experience offered the indication the staff appreciated our visit or really had an interest in our return. I have been in the store a handful of times, but the last 3 just showed terrible customer service. They have a great selection of things, but if you need help getting anything, aka shoes, just go somewhere else. The first time was busy, I was never greeted or acknowledged, but like I said, they were busy. I went in again and I stood around the shoe area with a shoe in my hand, went to the register and asked if someone could help me get a shoe and the employee said she would get the person in that department. I waited another 5 minutes and my toddler was lit having it! So I left. The third time was today. There may have been 4/5 people in the store, and I had to go to the register again, after waiting 5 minutes in the shoe department and ask for a shoe. Another 5 minutes with my toddler and still no help. I'll be purchasing my shoes online instead of helping a local spot! What a bummer read more

This store is huge and has an impressive inventory of high-end items and brands. Sale tags seem way overpriced, but I did quick google price comparisons and their prices are average to higher. The store is clean with inviting curb appeal, inside the layout is crammed and overwhelming. The employees were not engaging nor did they come across as friendly. This was disappointing and not what I expect as a representation of a Southport business. I visited during COVID-19 and the employees were not wearing masks. I did not have an issue with this and it did not impact my review of the store. They did however have hand sanitizer available and were separating "dirty" and "clean" pens at the register. read more

What is closing early? Ok that's just lost business.. We drove from Wilmington to Southport today. We went shopping at this store today. We have shopped and purchased many items over the last few years. I left without making a purchase because several of the staff was not wearing a mask. I believe it is critical that we recognize the risk and impact of not wearing a mask. If this store is not going to direct their employees to do so, I in-turn will not shop there. I will go back if they change their philosophy. read more

1 star is being generous! Went shopping about 2 weeks ago. The store had way too many people inside, nobody was practicing any safety measures or watching how many people were in the store. No facial coverings whatsoever. The place was overpriced and selling political merchandise. I guess this place does business because people either never leave the town to go shopping elsewhere. Nobody even says anything to you when you come in the door. I would love to support local businesses when I come to visit family but I guess these people don't think they're going to get affected by all that's going on. So disappointing. read more

Staff is so rude. This place has started going down hill! This used to be our favorite place to go for years. When you're spending that kind of money for full price merchandise, decent attitudes and costumer service would be nice. They are not a good representative of the hometown feel of Southport. Went there today. I had a few items to buy about $175 in men's clothing. No real help from employees. I did notice they had political attire there for sale. I don't like to see stores selling this stuff. I don't care what party. In light of what has been going on the past week in our country you would think they would not be selling anything like this. I visited this location with two other people on a Thursday. These are my thoughts and observations. - They sell a wide variety of souvenir t-shirts, plaid over-shirts, athletic shoes, sandals and backpacks. - The floor plan is crowded but well merchandised. - A lot of their merchandise is available for less elsewhere. Great selection of top brands, from swim wear to shades. We went last time to get everyone t-s to remember the family holiday. Great selection of outerwear with Southport, Oak Island logos. Parking on Main Street is limited but normally not an issue. Strangely, hours are not long on the weekends. Nothing really opens till 11am. Very helpful staff. read more

Loved this store in the past and would shop every time I visited Southport. Just left there and had several item in my hands to purchase when I realized that the cashiers and the employees standing near the entrance were not wearing masks. I purchased a shirt and after only one washing the color faded on the sleeve. I took it back hoping to exchange it as it was defective. I told to take it up with the manufacturer, there was nothing they could do because I washed it. What happened to standing behind the products you are selling? Once I mailed back I did get a different replacement 6 weeks later. I live here and try to support local businesses but I will never set foot in there again. They sent me the rudest message on Facebook messenger even going so far as to say my negative comment was a poor reflection on my employer. Why drag them in this bs. read more

I am a very modest person. In comparison to most places that carry these type of items they are reasonably priced. Be careful of what shirts you buy because they do brand some of their shirts on the sleeves with their store logo, not sure how they're getting away with that, specifically guy Harvey clothing. They have a very good selection of clothing and was thoroughly impressed with the items they had. The issue we had is the individuals working the store. Not one employee was friendly or spoke to us. One girl was playing on her phone the entire time we were there. Then upon making our purchases the lady ringing is up was monotone and never spoke to us. Very disappointing. This place is WAY overpriced. Granted the clothes they carry are in style & popular, the lady who owns it KNOWS IT. She is NEVER friendly and seriously makes me not want to spend a dime of my money there. She is blonde, usually working at the register. i don't doubt there are other poor reviews on here because the way she has treated me twice when I've been in there is STUCK UP and RUDE. The first time I went in there I had a coffee and she took it away and set it at the front because she was "afraid I'd spill". A lady walked in after me who I guess she knew or was a regular customer and as she tried to set her coffee she was holding at the front because she saw her take mine the lady at the register proceeded to tell her it was okay to hold hers!!!! So evidently the cashiers only look to the right at the counter and it takes two people to check out each customer. Therefore, people break in line making for an unpleasant experience as well as irritating end to a trip with no customer service on the floor at all. Good quality apparel and other items, but... The older blond woman at the register was incredibly rude and condescending. So much so, that I decided to return the item I had just purchased because I refuse to give money to someone who treats customers like that. As I was requesting a refund, she pointedly ignored me and went to the back of the store, leaving myself and several other customers waiting at the register. After a couple minutes, a very nice young man showed up to assist us and was very apologetic for his coworker's behavior. We definitely will never return to this store, and I sincerely hope that this woman considers a different career that does not require interaction with the public. read more

I visited Ocean Outfitters while on a recent trip in to Southport. They may have the "nicest" name brand selection in the area, but they have THE WORST customer service of anyone in Southport and Oak Island put together!! There were three people working ( one older dark headed woman, a younger male, and a middle aged medium length blonde haired woman) - NOT ONE person spoke to us or asked us if we needed help - and as a matter of fact, we did. We had saved our last day to go in town and shop for those back home, but guess what - WE DID NOT spend a dime in that store. I will NOT patronage a place with such little disregard for a simple courteous greeting, much less incompetent customer service. STAY AWAY, spend your money at other local establishments that welcome your business!! JUST TERRIBLE!!! DO NOT shop at this store...the manager is extremely greedy and money hungry. I bought a polo shirt for my husband that was on SALE for $54 (which is ridiculous to begin with). He did not like the shirt and did not even try it on or unfold it. We went the very next day to return the shirt with receipt and tags still on it. The cashier went to ask the manager if they could give us a refund or store credit. The manager said we could only exchange for a different color. I stressed the fact that he did not like the brand of the shirt and that my husband would like to pick out a different shirt but they refused. So now we are stuck with a $54 shirt that we have no use for but don't worry, they advised us to find someone else who would wear it. They are also very stingy about the $10 minimum on credit card charges (as I witnessed from the customer in front of me in line). Needless to say I will NEVER shop at this store again and the manager does not deserve your money or your business. read more
