She has both clinical and…read moreeducational experience, serving as an adjunct professor at Baylor University College of Medicine, I think adjunct prof for the med schools now in the immediate area as well. I came to her in late 2015-after 13 years not only with the wrong diagnosis but also on not one, not two, but THREE wrong, highly addictive medications. She has helped me get off two, work with other doctors to get my horribly messed up medical history corrected (as much as can be done) and fight with my insurance company (when they didn't seem to understand why I needed an extremely strong anti-nausea med while SLOWLY withdrawing). I started out with Dr A for both med management & counseling-the frequency changes depending on what's going on-Maybe at some point I'll change; she already knows my history and I don't have to repeat it. I need that continuity. Her office staff are fantastic. They get to know each patient (on your terms-definitely not pushy and nothing regarding your session). Now, I chat with the Office Mgr as I come and go. This is a small office, any paperwork is done by few, so I also try hard to be polite and thankful for any help-a couple of times it has been way beyond expectations. Ive never had any problems but I know I can express my concerns & they will be addressed (I might want to wait till I've HAD MY SESSION FIRST, as my issue may have vanished as I calmed down ) Unfortunately I don't believe Dr A is currently accepting new clients-She MIGHT have a wait list or take a client depending on the situation. Who knows. However any recommendations that come from her staff (I didn't ask if I could publish their names) should be high quality. One option-if you are willing to split Med Management & Psychotherapy, at least w Therapists work in the same suite-I will try to get their info to publish. And keep reading as you should feel comfortable going to them.... If you call and a recommendation THIS is why you should try it out: 1. Most are from patient interactions or Dr A's own experiences with them-and we are picky. 2. Dr A has been in the Greater Austin area for almost 3-4 years, she has great connections AND is highly respected within the medical community. If you cannot get in to see Dr A, please feel comfortable that her recommendations have the stamp of SOMEONE personally saying "yes I had/am having a positive experience". It isn't a collection of Biz Cards for handout. When I did this review, I knew it would be the first time My Name would be published with a Psychiatrist or Psychologist and THAT WOULD BE FINE. It's hard to do public reviews for this (not just HealhGrades or Vitals) but these are needed. We need more of these reviews so hopefully more will be done. I will eventually review my former Psychiatrist. I know I'm receiving wonderful care, and if I couldn't see her (and was still frantically looking) I know I'd get a good recommendation. If for some reason you don't-PLEASE let the office know and what happened-coming onto a Review site and griping does nothing. Dr A & her staff want each person to have great care: If she cannot see someone personally they want to know that person is still in great hands. When Dr A can start seeing patients herself-I'll definitely update this. PLEASE review more Psychiatrists, Psychologists & other Caregivers in this field. Let's make it EASIER not hard for all to find the best person. Blind reviews don't help enough.

Ok, I didn't really want to write a review for a psychiatrist on Yelp, but she absolutely does not…read moredeserve 2 stars. I've seen 3 different psychiatrists, including her. All they have to do is ask how the medicine is working. If things are going well, they can just prescribe more and that's the end of the session. If things aren't going well, they can make other suggestions and prescribe other meds. Dr. Rickenbacker always asked me how things were going, how my job was, etc. She actually cared about my life outside of the medicine she was prescribing. She was also always up to date on the latest research and had me trying out the latest medicines. She was actually a bit creative in that regard and could recommend things that weren't necessarily what every other psychiatrist was prescribing. In the end, her knowledge and her ability to think outside the box is what found a medicine that worked for me. I always scheduled my next appointment with her after my session was over, so I usually didn't have any problems, but I do remember her being hard to schedule with if I had to cancel. She does frequently run over her session times, but I always made sure to schedule plenty of time off work to see her, so it never interfered with anything for me. On days she was running late, I never felt like she rushed through my session to try to catch up. I realize these are big drawbacks, but she is really worth it. The only reason I don't see her anymore is because she no longer takes my insurance.

I have yet to recieve a call back. Followup (03/26): I did recieve a call after sixteen business days however, their services were no longer required. UPDATE!!! Five years later now. My new insurance has strong armed me into leaving my current physician. I decided to give Denae a second chance, given her close proximity to my office. Nearly the same issues again! It was difficult to reach someone, although easier than in 2012. They are currently only accepting new patients by referral which seems odd. I tried to play the game, having my doctor fax over Denae's required form which feels more like an application/screening. After numerous attempts, Denae's office denied receiving the form. My very generous current physician even made multiple attempts to call her office but could not get through to a live person. It appears the poor client service is a cornerstone for Denae's practice.

His staff are friendly and we're able to confirm benefits and fees without any issues. I never felt like he rushed me, however he does like you to answer his direct questions, if you tend to go off and ramble (like I do), he will interrupt to get you back in track. Keep in mind he is a Psychiatrist not a Psychologist, which means he's not the guy who you talk to for an hour about your problems. But he will provide you with a list of therapists if needed. He has continued with drug maintenance and made adjustments as needed. He's a little quirky and not very personable, but he is very nice. He has a seriousness about him (not arrogant as others described him). He has been very helpful for continued treatment.

The test administrator told my son before he headed to college that he can slowly work on his survey portion on his own. What he wasn't told was that he had 30 days to complete otherwise they would not allow him to turn in and they wouldn't consider his portion after that. Because he is 18 years old, I wasn't allowed to get involved until they wanted the balance of $92.40. Natalie called at that point for payment. I said I would pay my son's balance after they sent the report to him. I don't think they should hold the report hostage when they have received 95% payment. It seems like their focus is only monetary then trying to help patients discover their mental conditions. I am disappointed in how the testing was administered. Instead of breaking the survey into pieces, they send it to him via email which was overwhelming to him. He said filling the form made him depressed. This is why he didn't complete. This should have been considered from the start. I'm sure they technically covered their bases with all the forms we had to sign prior to commencement; however, I feel compelled to warn people from this place.

I filled out an online appointment request for AMBH right after that happened and I never heard back. So when I was within a week of my medication running out I sent a desperate email begging for an appointment (since every other provider I had contacted in my area on my insurance was not accepting new patients). I immediately heard back that they could fit me in, but then I got a separate email saying I needed to call my insurance company to coordinate benefits, activate my account, and also that I needed to fill out the new patient forms that day. I have a PPO and have had no issues using it with other specialists so it didn't make sense to me, but I called United Health. I spent an hour on the phone, talking to three different people, who told me it made no sense I had to call in because my insurance is active and they saw multiple 2021 claims on my account. I had meetings that afternoon and I finished working at 7p. I go to start start on the forms when I get an email from Sylvia saying my appointment was cancelled because I didn't fill out my paperwork by the end of the business day. She never told me that there was a time deadline for the forms, and she didn't even say due by end of business, she just said "today" in her email. Had I not spent an hour going back and forth with my insurance company for absolutely no reason I'd have had time to do the forms in the only gap I had in my schedule that afternoon and I would easily have gotten them done within the imaginary deadline she never gave me. The only other appointments available were the following week, past when my medication needed to be refilled, and she knew that based on our previous communication. Cancelling my appointment after business hours did nothing but leave a gap in Dr Kahn's schedule. If the forms were due by a certain time in the day then she should've told me that. Considering this is a mental health provider, the office staff should all know how important staying on medication is. There's no way I would attempt to reschedule at this office if this is the way the staff treats prospective patients, especially desperate ones.
