She captured the look I wanted, used the right makeup for my oily / sweaty face, got my hair exactly as I envisioned, and made the time go by super quickly with her easy chatter--perfection! I went to a wedding last Saturday, and felt like going glam, so I went on here to check out my options. Jha was listed up top with 5 stars so I messaged her and she messaged me back pretty quickly. I sent her back my images and she made recommendations based on my dress and ideas. I showed up and it was like meeting with an old friend. I was a little nervous since I've gotten makeup done before and I either 1) look completely off and plastic-y or 2) my face is 10x lighter than my body. She assuaged my fears immediately! Totally professional and knowledgable. And that makeup STAYED: makeup was done around 5PM Saturday, wedding ended at 1am (with dancing, drinking and all). I took out my hair--which was still on point by end of night--but kept makeup on because I loved it THAT much (LOL). In the morning, still great. Ran errands, took a two-hour nap in the afternoon, and actually made people go out to dinner with me because my makeup was still awesome and wanted one more outing with it. hahaha. Yes, as my sister would say I'm "super extra." I'll upload one picture of me from start of Saturday night, and then over 24 hours later Sunday night. You'll understand. Just book her! P.S. I have since taken off the makeup and cleaned and hydated my face for those of you concerned about a full day with no rest for my face. hahaha.

Cherry Le did my makeup for a television premiere last week. It was my first time getting my makeup…read moredone since my wedding almost twelve years ago, and Cherry made this middle-aged mom feel glamorous and red carpet ready. I found Cherry on Yelp and messaged her just a few days ahead of the Tuesday night event. She responded with her quote and the relevant details, and after mulling over whether or not to spend the money, I secured the appointment with a deposit the night before. She only had a 1:00 slot available, but she was able to come to me, meeting me in my hotel room. She arrived right on time with an arsenal of beauty supplies. I liked her immediately. She was so friendly and energetic, and said flattering things about my skin, obviously music to my 39-year-old ears. I had a great time hanging out with her. She asked what I was looking for and I said I was walking a red carpet and just wanted to look good. She took me through her overall plan and started with my eye makeup, layering on colors and checking in to see if I was okay with the level of drama. I didn't know enough to weigh in and let her do her thing, and less than an hour later, I was fully dolled up. She even put fake eyelashes on top of my already fake eyelashes. To be honest, I was a little worried at first. I looked very dramatic for two in the afternoon, and I wondered if I'd let her go overboard. Once I was dressed and at the premiere, though, I felt fairly confident and comfortable and got lots of compliments. I walked the carpet, the second time I've done that in my life, and stood and posed awkwardly for a million photos. I've seen the pictures from both events and am really glad I got my makeup done this time around. The bolder makeup just worked better with those bright lights. I'm not professionally pretty (I'm a writer, which is, if anything, an ugly person's job) so it was fun to get my face painted and hang out with the attractive people who go to television premieres. Thanks to Cherry, I looked as good as my genes would allow. If you're looking for a professional makeup artist in New York City, I'd highly recommend Beauty by Cherry Le. I have long hair that can be anywhere from wavy to just downright messy curls, it's changed over the years. Molly has always made sure to give me the cut that would flatter it most if it air-dried or blow dried myself, not just when it was professionally blown out leaving the salon. I tell her how I usually would do it and she makes sure that the cut works best for that. She has always given me honest opinions or when I thought about coloring it or doing a gloss. I loved that she didn't push me at all for any sort of color even though it would obviously be much more expensive. Before Salon Gatto, over the years, I've gone to other salons closer to home or near work when I was in a pinch or I've seen other hair stylists at Salon Gatto before I found Molly, (I'm sorry but I can't remember any names!) They were always wonderful and I definitely left happy but Molly is my favorite. She is great at her job, not overly talkative (this is a time to RELAX for me) and sweet and is honest. Am I fangirling?? Probably. They have two locations and just opened a whole new second floor at their original location by the Path train, so I love to see them growing and growing!!
