My intro instructor and the staff member who signed me up were POC, and I see that diversity is reflected in my fellow students in almost every class. ​Why I love this studio: ​The Vibe: I was so nervous about being "underdressed," but people here show up in Crocs, leggings, and oversized t-shirts. It's a true "come as you are" environment. ​The Community: A fantastic range of ages and backgrounds. I've never felt out of place. ​The Instructors: I started out super nervous, but every instructor has made me feel safe and supported. I stay and do a Yin class afterwards. The temperatures are good - the Vinyasa and Yin are done at reasonable warm temperatures which is very important to me. If you like that really hot stuff, the Hatha classes are there, but I never do them due to the heat. The facility is nice with an excellent sound system. I love it that there is a variety of music, even within the same class. All of the instructors have been very good. Special mention of Kelsey whose classes particularly resonate with me. Kelsey often does one small adjustment per person per class, and that has slowly improved my yoga practice.

It was very helpful to me in so many ways... the class helped me stretch those tense muscles that develop during pregnancy, strengthen / prepare me for child birth and in general helped my body and soul relax! She is also really good about making sure your body is positioned correctly while you're in different poses and positions. There are other wonderful instructors that teach at the studio as well. I didn't know the difference between good and bad yoga instructors until I attended a few yoga classes at LA Fitness. It's definitely worth going and paying for "real yoga" and quite frankly, it's not that expensive per class. It's so much fun and you feel great afterwards!

They consistently reinforce fitting the practice to fit your own body's needs. Whether you're just starting or have been doing this for years, all yogis are welcome here. Pilates and barre are still on my to-do list, but I've heard great things about them! They also hold events such as Barre-oke (barre meets karaoke), sound baths, buti yoga, and drum circles. They even did a special puppy (foster puppies) yoga session last month! Things To Note: Although the Shiva Studio remains listed on the Active & Fit website, it no longer participates in the A&F program. In The Kutt, a hip-hop dance studio is right next door; sometimes, each studio has a class simultaneously. Unfortunately, at no fault of Shiva's own, can be distracting to hear their music during a yoga session. However, this happens infrequently and isn't enough to negatively impact their score. FYI, after my two-week trial, I needed some assistance initiating the monthly membership through the Shiva website. Liz quickly and efficiently helped me with this in person at the studio. The Mind Body app is the most efficient way of looking up the weekly schedule and signing up for classes. Liz checks in on you by email after your first few sessions to see if you have any questions or comments! She has been timely and informative with my email inquiries. Even the weekday classes before 4 PM were either pretty full or completely full. The studio itself is clean and well maintained. Just a heads-up : the showers are group-style (there's one for women, and I assume one for men), so no individual shower stalls. There are only a few toilets and the changing space is quite small, so it can get a little crowded before and after class. Overall, though, I had a great experience and would definitely recommend this studio to anyone looking for quality yoga classes and great instructors. The price, atmosphere and teaching make it totally worth it!
