Underrated spot in Flam with a terrific view serving a good lunch set up. We almost stayed away due to some spotty reviews, but my Scooby sense told me it was worth a try. It was a nice simple lunch spot. We enjoyed the traditional fish cake with cod (bocalau) served with a tiny fresh salad. Also enjoyed the dense applecake for dessert and my lunch partner was a fan of the homemade quiche. Small, clean spot with a nice outdoor patio and quaint Scandinavian interior. Flam is a transportation hub geared to tourists, but other than the bakery, this is one of the better finds in town. Enjoyable.

Best meal of my 3 week trip to Scandinavia! The atmosphere is 100% stylish grandma, exactly what you want when your trying to get back to your roots. The limited menu is just perfect. All in all a goldilocks type of place. We had the salmon, carrot ginger soup, and sausage. All the dishes were spot on and tasted great. I would recommend this place to anyone that wants an authentic Norwegian lunch! Price was a bit much for the US traveler. When you realize it's in the middle of nowhere norway it's reasonably priced for good food.

Their bread service consisted of homemade bread and butter which was fantastic. I ordered the wagyu entrecôte with broccolini, potatoes, and tomato salad. The wagyu had a béarnaise sauce too. One of the best cuts of meat I've had. The potatoes and veggies paired so well! The salmon was delicious as were the veggies it came with. Our dessert was a warm brownie with seasonal berries and ice cream that was to die for!

Restaurant Arven has it all. Delicious food. Amazing staff. Beautiful views. Wonderful atmosphere. My rundown: -Kristine (our waitress) was absolutely wonderful. She was patient, kind and accommodating. -The champagne and wine selection was top notch. -The bread was fresh, soft and flavorful. -The vegetarian plate and salad that was prepared for me by the chef was beyond delicious. The vegetables and greens were extremely fresh. -I was told that the cod was cooked to perfection and tasted like it had been caught within hours of being cooked. -The leak and potato soup was light yet flavorful. -The desserts were wonderful. If I had to choose between the white chocolate soup and the creme brûlée, I would pick the white chocolate soup. Overall, I loved this restaurant. If you are in Flam and want to enjoy a nice dinner, stop by at this restaurant. You won't be disappointed.

"A neighboring clan went on the attack, And stole all the giant coco-yams from the barn out back."…read more Coco-Yam Song, Mountain Goats In a hamlet where the ratio of goats to people is 5:1, you are more likely to find grazing grounds than habitats for human grazing. But no need to get bucky! You won't have to get down on all fours and forage for your fiber along the mountainsides, unless that's what floats your goat. Instead, herd yourself to the Underdal Fjordkafe to chew the cud and ruminate over your travel plans while waiting for the return ferry to Flam. The café has the most unbelievable views one could dream up from the seating area on the deck as it faces the fjords, mountains, and falls. You won't likely see any goats sitting at the tables around you, but you never know...you just might meet a Billy! One of the café's specialties is reindeer meatballs (apologies to Dasher and Dancer), but we could only salivate over others' plates as the cafe had just closed for dinner by the time we arrived. Baaaaad timing on our parts, but luckily their ice cream stand was still open, along with refreshments for sale. With mini ice cream cups in hand and grumbling stomachs, we hungrily asked those at the neighboring table if their meatballs tasted good. They answered, "Totes ma goats!" There is a bathroom way in the back through the attached Eldhuset Museum...we were told we would be on the right trail when we passed the giant goat poster. This goat must have the right stuff that separates the sheep from the goats to be picked out of 500 as the poster boy! Right next to the café is the Underdal Brygge, where you alert the ferry to stop by turning on a flashing yellow light. Don't wait until the last pickup time if you can help it, because the ferry never came for the last call. Luckily the café has wifi, albeit quite spotty, so that we could get a hold of a taxi service to take us back to Flam. 4 hooves in the air for the view alone (5 if I had a fifth), a "meh-eh-eh" for the ice cream, and one head ram for our late arrival. "I ain't got no mouthful, I ain't got no tail." Night Goat, Melvins
