I am actually…read morebeing generous with my 3-star rating since this is the first time the organizers held this event in town. So I am giving them some leniency because I know there's always going to be kinks to work out when an event is open for the first time. Very first issue here that I see needs to be addressed is security. There's no security on site. Anyone can walk out of this place with your child. But I guess that's why you sign a waiver when you walk in. So be careful and keep an eye out for your kiddos. Everyone who enters (sliders and non-sliders) need to sign the waiver. And since I mentioned the waiver, it would be nice to have an option to print and sign the waiver at home. Especially if you are purchasing tickets online to make your entry quick and avoid standing in line for a long time. I do like it that they only charge for sliders. It's $12 per slider and children under 2 and non-sliders can come in for free. You may pick any spot in the soccer field. Bring your own shade.. a pop-up canopy, tent or umbrella works great! Bring stakes to secure your shade... it can get windy... saw a few umbrellas/pop ups fold and/or get blown away today. Don't forget your lawn chairs and/or blankets as well. Bring lots of water especially when it's really hot. They allow outside food and drinks so bring your own. Food and drinks available on site but are on the pricey side. No glassware, alcohol or grills allowed. And oh, be ready to pay $6 for parking. The soccer park charges for parking. It's not waived for this event. That's something the slidefest ads & website failed to mention. Our kids didn't want to slide. They were expecting it was going to be too hot and water will be gross to be in. And they were absolutely right! As much as they want to try to run into the sprinklers they have around to cool off, they wouldn't want to go down those slides and end up in a pool of mucky, dirty, black water! There must be a way to keep those waters clean. I understand it can get muddy and dirty from wet feet walking around the grass and dirt but they must find a way to pump water out and change it every so often to keep it clean. I think it's great to have something different to do in town with the kiddos. But there are some things that needs to be improved. The dirty waters can be a potential health issue.

Usually regulars will tie extra poop bags to the fence and bring bottles of water. Because this park is a sump, garbage can sometimes wind up at the bottom of the park, but it's maintained weekly and is usually pretty clean for a dog park. The one thing this place NEEDS desperately is more signage about the rules. Last Sunday, July 11, 2021 we arrived around 8am and found a group of about 20 boys and 4 coaches having football practice. Usually I wouldn't mind this type of thing and welcome the socialization for the dogs, but the kids were not properly talked to about respecting the dog park. One of the boys opened the fence gate and let both of my dogs out, who of course then bolted out into the busy street. I feel that this could have been avoided if there were proper signs about closing the fence and being mindful of the dogs. Especially because this dog park is just the small fenced in area of a larger park, I feel like they could play anywhere and dogs really just have this one spot.

Unfortunately, this park has a lot that makes me really think if I want to come back. The reason I…read morekeep coming back is because it is so close to me. I don't mind coming here in the morning or afternoon. I just don't like coming at night. The park is way too dark. They have light, but they are way to dim. They need to change the light bulbs or clean them. It hardly lights up the park. When you walk on the sidewalk it is almost pitch black. I love walking at night, but I honestly hate that the park is so dark. Also, I don't look to judge a book by it's cover but it's very hard not to with certain people. I have come a few times and I see the same "homeless" people at the same spot. I feel so uncomfortable going to certain parts of the park because they keep staring at you. Not sure if they just stare or really want to make you feel uncomfortable. I also see a lot of certain adults smoking and acting crazy at the benches. I try to avoid them as well. Others are digging threw the trash and some are just walking around looking crazy. I'm sorry if I seem harsh, but I'm just trying to be honest. My husband has told me that a lot of them come to do drugs. I don't know, but like I said they do look weird. Now, for the positive. I love that I saw a water/spray section. The water wasn't on, but I think that during the summer they turn them on. I wanted to let my son play there but there are two people always sitting near that section. If I let my son play there I think he will go and bug them so I rather not have him play there. Right now, the play area is closed. Bummer. Great news though. It is closed because they are remodeling it! Yay! Now this I do love. It started to look so nice. They put a huge slide that I know kids will love. They are putting so much playground equipment and it is making the park look much better. They put up a sign that states they play area will open in mid October.

Bakersfield isn't known for being the most scenic city in California, but it has its moments. The park is situated atop a bluff with endless views of Oildale. The views are truly expansive and it's beautiful to spend an afternoon walking across the bluff or our favorite for visiting the park...feeding the squirrels! I have truly never seen as many squirrels as I did at Panorama Park! They are everywhere and they are wilding out! Before arriving, we went to Winco and picked up 6 pounds of unsalted shelled peanuts. Yes...6 pounds! We set up, started throwing, and out they came, baby! The squirrels be swarming!!! They have a bunch of little underground tunnels and they start communicating with each other and just make their appearance. The squirrels are uber friendly, to the point that they were taking peanuts right out of our hands. They'd eat a ton of peanuts and act like they'd never seen one in their life!
