We wanted to grab some bread to make sandwiches for the next day. I'd spotted Baker in the Rye a bit earlier so we decided to drop by inside to take a look.
They have breads in the back along with some baguettes, buns and bagels up front. These are self serve and annoyingly, they don't have any prices on them. There's also pastries, banana bread and cakes. I was surprised by the briskness of the lady working the counter. We asked about the baguettes and she was already ringing up our order when we weren't even done looking. Bizarre.
- 2x Baguette ($3.80 AUD) - these are up at the front. Too hard and doesn't have that satisfyingly chewy texture bite.
- 2x Bagels ($1.00 AUD) - these should be called "bagels". It's more like a bread type bun in bagel form/shape. Can't really complain for the price.
- 2x Rye buns ($1.30 AUD) - really dry and heavy. Don't get them.
Decent bakery but the hospitality could use
an overhaul. read more
