The staff was friendly and remembered both our names and our drinks by the second day. Pastries are surprisingly good and seating was available inside or outside. The atmosphere is modern and industrial while being warm, inviting, cozy and flowing. The tables on rails are cool. The back patio is cute, too. Even the bathrooms will have you reading the story of Omar. Everything here just works perfectly. We brought the whole family along, and everyone was blown away. The breakfasts and brekkie sangas are priced really well for Melbourne, and are BETTER than most of those other fancy pants places anyway. The pastries at the till are yummy, too. They aren't big on wanky latte art either, just great tasting and best of the best high-quality coffee with no cheap gimmicks. Come here for some of the best coffee of your life - filter, espresso or capp. You will not be disappointed. I've also purchased the best coffee beans for home here. They source and roast to perfection. All-around winning, here.

Shame as the trio chocolate gateaux was so nice. The chai latte also went down nicely for $12 in total. Maybe they had a bad day but even if you only have one customer I've seen better customer service elsewhere. I may give them a second chance.

There's something so appealing about these shops along Tennyson where I've only visited as an outsider but been envious of the locals there. If the House of Bread and Pastries was my local bakery I would be very happy and my jealousy runs deep with those that can casually get up and go for a walk to this strip, get a coffee, some fresh bread and that alluring smile on a daily basis.

However, cupcakes can be cool in their own little way, particularly if you were spoilt with then as a kid. Well, this place basically specialises in cupcakes, and will also do a coffee to go along side them (because what good is a cupcake with out some coffee to wash it down). Well, while the selection of cupcakes was impressive, unfortunately they didn't really back it up with a decent coffee. However, considering the other options in a short walk from this place, I was quite happy with what they had on offer, and the cupcake as well.

I am not a huge cupcake lover not am I usually a fan of chain stores but this place does an epically moist red velvet cupcake and one of the best chocolate malt milkshakes around. However this store doesn't have salted caramel as a daily regular which made me a little sad but my red velvet cupcake more than made up for this! This place is in the top 3 of donut deliciousness that Melbourne is currently embracing in all it's glazed goodness. The donuts here are surprisingly light and fluffy. We ended up with a creme brulee and a jaffa. I'm still drooling at the thought of how good these were. The Jaffa truly captured the choc-orange flavouring without having either flavour dominate. The creme brûlée was a little on the ugly side to look at. A bit new born squished face. But all was forgiven after the first chomp into the doughy goodness. The cafe space here is within a warehouse zone. There's some great retro styling going on here. Beverage wise you can get brewed coffee, some cold drinks and some alcoholic drinks.

They are only open Fri and Sat 8am - 3pm (with Sunday being introduced soon) because they spend all week baking the ingredients - even the rubble and freckles are hand made. It's too die for. Five flavours alternating each week. Soft, Fluffy, Sweet and seriously yummy!! The donuts are made on site and you can see the bakers working their magic and smell the sweet aromas drifting from the kitchen. There is coffee available but you'll have to excuse my ignorance for not knowing exactly what brand. I made the wise choice to quit caffeine drinks some years back. I think it could be an Ethiopian brand. Nothing else for sale yet though just donuts and coffee. Whatever you do make sure you roll heads to get the coffee glaze with passionfruit curd and chocolate rubble because it will change your life, it appeared popular and was running out quickly. My advice is to be at the door by 8am. All flavours will be available and you'll be able to buy a stash. By the time we got there it was mid arvo and max purchase of two each. A big bunch of poor buggers behind us missed out. If you want to take a little rest and watch the rows of people pass in and out then just take a seat indoors at the many available tables. They have options you can grab and go, or if you're after an a la carte experience, they have a sit in menu as well. I ended up doing just that, coming after a session at the YMCA. And I was surprised by how busy this little café had gotten. I ordered the eggs Florentine on a brioche bun. This portion was huge, I could've easily have split it. And their prices are reasonable.
