The service was good friendly, due to being busy, there was a wait, It was worth it. The Food well presented. Having said that at this level of Restaurant. it should be. The taste of the food was good. We will go back a few more times for consistency observations. Enjoy

I had my guide dog with me on this outing, and the waiter was not phased in the slightest, I was greeted with "table for 2, and the cutest puppy in the world, take any table available" It is so refreshing when this happens, and I don't need to explain that a guide dog in training, is able to be in any restaurant she feels like, or more to the point where I feel like. I ordered (and let's not kid ourselves who wouldn't) the 8 hour slow cooked pulled lamb with green beans, mint and radicchio leaves served on a chick pea and yoghurt smash topped with almond flakes. If you think the name of this dish makes your mouth water, wait until they place it in front of you, then you had better be wearing a bib, The dish looked fresh, and you could see the chef has mastered his art. There was a perfect balance of flavours on the plate, and it danced on the pallet like beauty and the beast having their first waltz in a glitzy ballroom. The lamb was cooked to perfection, and paired with the salad, worked perfectly. I am not a fan of yoghurt unless it is full of sugar (I need sweetening), but after asking the waitress when ordering if I could taste a little, she was more than happy to oblige, and I must say, glad I asked, as the flavour of the yoghurt I don't like, was masked by the chick pea smash, it was almost like a light hummus. Being a carnivore, I do like to see meat in my salad, and this paring was made in heaven, smart construction from the chef, and a definite 5 out of 5 for me.

Breakfast, we are told, is the most important meal of the day, but unfortunately very few…read morerestaurants get it right. The Diplomat Cafe in Highett I'm pleased to announce is one of the few. This cafe is centrally located on the main strip across the road from the Highett train station. The cafe itself is really well designed with a small show kitchen pumping out meals to a rather large minimalistic dining room. It really has a great vibe. The first thing that I was impressed with was the staff. Upon arrival I was greeted warmly, and escorted to my table, offered water and a coffee to start with. This in itself seems to be a lost art in today's restaurant scene. I ordered a jasmine pearl tea to start, which, when arrived was presented on a wooden board, with a cup, an iron teapot and a box with three sandglass minute timers. The first one set at one minute, the second at three mins and the third at five minutes. Each timer representing the strength of the tea. A pretty cool concept. The menu looked awesome, but all I really wanted was poached eggs, bacon and mushrooms. So that's what I ordered. Now it's generally at this stage when I ask the waiter if I could have my bacon crispy, but in all honestly I forgot, so I was a bit concerned. My breakfast arrived in a reasonable timeframe, and my first impression was, that it looked pretty good. It wasn't good, not at all, it was awesome. Let's start with the eggs. Perfectly poached, soft and gooey yolks, and perfectly poached whites. As much as the eggs impressed me it was the bacon that wowed me. Crispy but still juicy and full of flavour, just the way I like it. I have to say this was one of the best bacon and eggs I've ever had. The food that was coming out of that kitchen was amazing. So if you find yourself down Highett way check out The Diplomat, it truly was amazing.

I had the smashed avocado and poached eggs and it was absolutely scrumptious. Couldn't recommend this establishment enough. The atmosphere was buzzing and filled with laughter and cheer. A must try if you ask me.

You dream about a place where you can go and sit and enjoy a coffee quietly or have a chat with a friend and your child is entertained. You're in luck! This place is the place to go (there's also a location in South Melbourne) if you're in the situation similar to mine. The quote from the website states,"CheekyChinos is a sanctuary for parents providing fresh, healthy food and exceptional coffee in an environment designed specifically for young families. An Australian first, CheekyChinos offers a supervised play area with equipment designed by a Psychologist to be developmentally beneficial for children up to 5 years." I have to admit, it was a sanctuary for me today. I was able to place my lovely, overactive 2 year old in the supervised play for 30 minutes at the very low price of $10 (seeming low because some days I'd pay $100 just to get a nice quiet cup of coffee) and was also able to enjoy a nice warm latte with a lovely brownie. In all honesty though, the coffee is about average coffee, nothing special, but the thrill of being able to sit quietly and enjoy it makes up for the quality. The brownie however hit the spot and was even better because I didn't have grubby little hands trying to take it from me! One of the stipulations of play for the children is that you are not allowed to leave the cafe. So unfortunately, you cannot just stroll off and go shopping but they do send you an SMS letting you know when your childs playtime is almost up and then when you need to retrieve your child. The staff in the supervised area is amazing and you can tell they definitely enjoy their jobs playing with children all day. I can see many future trips in my future to this place.
