Nestled just on the outskirts of the Design District, this adorable little spot feels effortlessly neighborhood-y, with an eclectic mix of design professionals, joggers, and Miami moms out for a stroll with their kids. I happened to arrive just before the lunch rush (YAY!), meeting a prospective donor who suggested it since she lives nearby. The moment you walk in, you're hit with a beautiful vitrine of pastries and baked goods, honestly stunning, followed by that rich coffee aroma that pulls you all the way in. I was starving and absolutely over-ordered: a caprese sandwich (very good), a blood orange tart (spectacular!!!), and a chocolate chip cookie to take home (good, but not life-changing). My black coffee was solid, but what really stood out was the service. Genuinely warm, attentive, and consistent, from the register to the floor. You can feel it. Phenomenal local spot with some of the best focaccia I've tried in a while! I came on Saturday for a quick coffee and couldn't resist ordering their olive and rosemary focaccia bread freshly baked and still warm -- it was out of this world. I also got to try their cinnamon roll which is a classic, made to perfection. It was so good I couldn't even share it! Decided to try a new place today. Especially after I saw a post about the cardamon buns. Well it was meh. The shop is very small inside. Very. So I would take my items to go instead of staying. They do have two tables in there but they have signs next to them that say it's for 2+ guests. The woman at the counter wasn't friendly at all. Like when you tell someone it's your first time there you might get suggestions or something, she just stared. Okay cool. I don't want the red carpet to be rolled out but just a little friendliness, ya know? I ordered one of the "frittatas", olive oil cake and a hot chocolate. The hot chocolate came out Luke warm and asked for the cake to be heated up and it wasn't but that's fine. The food actually tasted good. The pizza was delicious!! crust was crispy and cheese was salty and perfectly golden. The spinach and feta pastry was very flaky and flavorful. Spinach tasted fresh and herby, not like the one you buy in a bag. Coffee was good, a little bitter. Matcha was okay but it wasn't ceremonial grade matcha, like a 6/10, it was okay for a cafe matcha. Baker and Barista is such a sweet little spot. I ordered the banana bread, the pumpkin cardamom cake, a matcha latte & an americano and everything was delicious. I have been here a few times now & every single thing I try is always on point. Their matcha is honestly one of the best I have had in Miami. It is a small cafe so it can get busy pretty fast & there is no WiFi, so it is not really a remote work place, but it is perfect for unplugging with a good coffee & a pastry. We love their matcha latte with honey and oat milk, which is super creamy and the right amount of sweetness without being too sugary (easily our favorite in the city). Things I tried: Sourdough cinnamon roll - easily one of the best if the not the best cinnamon roll I've had - so good I wish they would mail order them through Goldbelly Sun-dried tomato, pesto, feta "danish" - had that splendid croissant flaky texture with plenty of filling - loved the Italian influence Almond butter & Jam sourdough toast - childhood nostalgia in this one! Loved the from scratch quality of this toast but it was on the firmer side, specially after I traveled a few hours back home and left it in its box on my countertop overnight. I should've plastic film wrapped the box for next day consumption. I'd re-order and recommend any of the baked goods I tried but would most feel inclined towards the cinnamon roll and pesto, sun-dried tomato and feta croissant. Campfire Sweet & Smoky latte - I was eager to try something I never had before until I did. The bakery is very specific as to only preparing hot coffee with this syrup so I ordered as they recommended. It comes sprinkled with black salt. As I drank it I only tasted coffee and oatmilk until I drank more than half of it and then the syrup hit me. The weight of the syrup kept it all in the bottom of the cup so the flavor wasn't infused throughout the latte. If I tried this latte again, I'd make sure to take one of their wooden stirrers and stir away before sipping and if that isn't doing it for me, I'd order the latte with both the sweet & smoky syrup they make it with in addition to either vanilla or mocha. I just know I didn't experience it as it was meant to be. I'm glad that the bakery also does rewards points for purchases if you register. All in all, I'd both recommend and re-visit baker and barista when visiting Miami. Also, they are cashless for payments. read more

That feels a little late if you're looking for something sweet with your morning coffee. Instead, I ordered the veggie frittata, a chocolate almond croissant, and an almond milk latte. The latte was lukewarm at best (I ended up reheating it at home), and the frittata was just okay. The bottom layer had a spongey, oddly spiced texture that wasn't my favorite. The croissant was the best of the bunch: good, but nothing I'd go out of my way for. Prices weren't unreasonable; with tip, my total was $24 for three items. Ambience-wise, I can't speak too much since I was there at 8:15am when it was nearly empty. The space itself is open enough for a quick grab-and-go, though I could see it feeling crowded later in the day. Personally, I prefer not to fight for space when I'm just trying to enjoy a coffee. Overall: not terrible, not amazing, just middle of the road. I wish I had known about the cinnamon roll timing ahead of time because I probably would have skipped the trip rather than spend it on mediocre pastries. read more

The chocolate hazelnut croissant was fine. I was expecting more than what we got. We also were charged $6 for a glass bottle of OJ. Absurd. It's small in there and not the most stroller friendly. There was a lady picking up her ham and cheese croissant and very rudely told the server "I cannot get through" (with major attitude) because our stroller was blocking the tight hallway where the pickup and cashier was. When I got to the counter and asked for five, the cashier told me they only allow two per person. I explained that my family: 2 kids and wife was back at the hotel, and I had also promised one to my Uber driver who had been kind enough to wait. Instead of showing a little understanding, she insisted my driver come inside just to buy two more -- in front of a full line of customers. It was unnecessarily awkward and honestly disappointing. I wasn't trying to get around a policy, I was just trying to treat my family and a kind stranger. Instead, I walked out embarrassed and frustrated, with three buns and a bad taste before even trying them. I came here expecting great pastries and good people. The pastries might be good -- I'll never know -- but the service made me lose all interest. Sometimes, a little empathy goes further than any pastry ever could. Came by the Baker and Barista recently. It's located right by the Miami Design District. It's a small and quaint shop with lots of pastries, some sandwiches, and sourdough pizza. Various coffee options as well. Staff were kind and provided recommendations. We ordered a flat white, a sourdough cheese slice, and a cinnamon roll. The flat white was a bit bitter unfortunately and had a lot of milk. So I'd definitely try another drink next time! The cinnamon roll was pretty tasty but a little bit dry. Still very enjoyable in the parts that had icing. It was also a good portion to share! Lastly, the sourdough cheese slice was pretty good. Fresh tasting. I added hot honey and chili flakes when I got home and it really brought out more flavor. Definitely would come back to try other items on the menu. Cute shop with nice decor! I almost don't want to write a review because I want to keep it a little secret!!! This is by faaaaaar the most amazing, artisan bakery in the Miami area. The experience starts with being greeted by an incredibly friendly staff to just the perfect variety of baked goods, and ends with very good coffee. We have gotten the zaatar egg pastry (flawless flakiness and flavor), the Crostata (ratio of buttery crust to filling was what we call ideal). Still dying to get our hands on the cinnamon roll, unfortunately we can never get there after 1030. Planning on going here every weekend before the tourists find out. This is one of those places that you love so much, you fear it disappearing. The baker and barista are both fantastic, I used to go for just a cappuccino-- they make the best proper cappuccino in Miami-- until the barista insisted I try their sourdough bread. I politely declined on two separate occasions, but when I finally tried it, because the baker brought it out to me to make a point, I was not only charmed, but delighted. I not only love their cappuccinos, sourdough bread, and unbelievable sourdough cinnamon roll (I mean honestly, these things are the stuff of dreams), but I love their personalities and energy.
