I don't normally send drinks back, but the margarita I ordered just wasn't going down well. When I mentioned that I'd like to have what my date was having, I was told they would take it away but leave it on the tab. I explained, as a former food server, I have never made a guest pay for something they were unhappy with, especially something they were not going to consume. Instead of the waiter resolving this himself, he fetches the bartender, who argues the drink was made how it was supposed to be and "we don't do sampling here." After I explained to him that, being currently unemployed, I don't feel good being made to pay for something that I was not going to consume in a restaurant, he apologized, made a different drink and fetched me my check that I asked for. Amigos, you should know this is appalling service. I won't be back and hopefully others will gain some perspective on this experience and judge accordingly.

This is much more than your local taco joint; the flavors are delightfully complex and preparation is on point. The service is always impeccable and attentive. There's some pretty great restaurants in the area, but I think honesty, this is currently my favorite location.

We were so excited to happen upon a Mexican resteraunt, because it is always our 1st choice, but…read morethe food was Meh. As a resteraunt, the downstairs was very small with 3 tables & a bar; the upstairs was more spacious. The food was edible, but it wasnt anything special; nothing a novice cook at home couldnt produce taste-wise, & you would have never known you were in a Mexican resteraunt by the food, the ambiance, or the drinks (which is hard to do because margaritas are made of tequila) Granted what we ordered wasn't Mexican, but isn't that strange in itself? I ordered one of the specials: ($27) boneless beef short ribs w/ a mescal mushroom sauce, on a bed of mashed potatoes & spinach w/ pickled onions, & a ginger margarita ($14). My friend chose the special ($26) coconut crusted cod w/ rice, mixed vegetables, pineapple salsa & a house silver margarita (16). Mine was edible & the meat was a good texture, but the flavor profile was nothing to write home about. Actually, it would have have been better without the sauce, because it overpowered the dish. The pickled onion on top was the best part of my meal. The drink also fell flat, but was drinkable. My friend reported that her fish was bland & flavorless, but could have been improved with a little lime. However the waitress never came back after taking the order, except to drop the check. It was delivered by a runner. She commented that everything else on the plate had flavor & as long as she ate bites of everything together, it was decent. I gave it a try, & agreed, but I have to say the pineapple salsa was a stand out star on her plate. Her drink was also passable, but not good enough to order a second & she had to add sweetner, because it was mutually bitter & tart. She said the sweetner improved it. The wait staff was not unpleasant, they were just mot attentive. Needless to say I won't be returning.

When you're told that there is a Mexican restaurant in the hotel, what comes to mind? A delicious…read moremargarita perhaps? Chips and salsa maybe with some guacamole? Tacos? Fajitas? Enchiladas? You know, the comfort food we've all come to know that the wonderful culture of Mexico has shared with the United States. Don't expect any of these items when you arrive at this restaurant. I hate when chefs take good cuisine and add extra shit to it trying to be fanciful only to make a meal that is unbearable to eat. And unfortunately that's what we experienced tonight along with a restaurant, full of other people who were looking at the food and trying to guess what the hell it was. We started with margaritas, which had nothing to do with a margarita, except for the fact that it had tequila in it. Those were sent back properly and we asked for a regular margarita that wasn't on the menu and they told us. "Oh yes, we can make that." Then we ordered chips and guacamole. The guacamole arrived with pumpkin seeds in it. Never had nor have I ever seen guacamole with pumpkin seeds. It also had passion fruit chopped up in it, making it even odder and Stranger, and not very tasty. We really struggled with what to order for the main course. Nothing that you would normally expect in a Mexican restaurant was on the menu. Yes, they had the names such as tacos and enchiladas, but they had nothing to do with a Taco and absolutely nothing to do with enchilada. Even the quesadilla had nothing to do with the quesadilla. That was the real mystery to us. It appears that they had taken a plate and smeared black beans across the bottom of it. Then they took a blue tortilla shell and added cheese that didn't melt. At first we thought it was square cubes of tofu, as it was also in the tortilla soup. The quesadillas had mushrooms and folded in half and to what we would think is a taco. This was laid on top of the bed of black beans on the plate. Making it extremely messy to eat. The wait staff is used to this. They were bending over backwards and apologizing. They knew the customers did not like this food and it is something they have been dealing with for the past year or so that this restaurant has been opened. We felt really bad for the wait staff because you could see the discomfort in their eyes when they sat a plate down. They knew as the customers would soon come to know, this food sucks. So if you want some delicious Mexican food, you won't find it here. Go somewhere else or up for something else. Hopefully one day, the Mexican chef at this restaurant will forgo his liberal ideas of new and exciting dishes that no one can stand, and get grandma's recipe book out and start fresh. Only then will he have a successful restaurant.

Guacamole featuring pineapple and pumpkin seeds was disappointing. It was normal guacamole with about 10 pumpkin seeds and a tiny bit of pineapple in 3mm chunks on top. Weird that they highlighted the pineapple and pumpkin seeds.

The ambiance at Scorpion Bar is nice. The lightening is nice and the decor is cool. My friend ordered a mango mojito and I ordered a virgin mojito which was surprisingly very tasty and refreshing. It did take a while for our food order to be taken. One of the bartenders said she would come back to take our food order after finishing a round of drinks, but then never came back so we had to ask another bartender to take our order after about 10 minutes of waiting. We ordered the nachos with ground beef. Those were pretty good, I liked how cheesy they were. For our main meal, we decided to get two tacos each and the birria quesadilla. The tacos were good! My favorite was the Baja fish taco. It was very flavorful and one of the best fish tacos I've had in CT. I was disappointed in the birria quesadilla. It was just OKAY. It was pretty pricey for just the quesadilla and no sides. I didn't think the meat was seasoned enough. The last item we got was the fried ice cream for dessert. We got it because the bartender said it was a large portion and was pretty good. It was NOT that goood. It was extremely large...like almost too big. The fried dough that covered the ice cream was very sugary and wasn't warm and the ice cream was very plain. I would not recommend. Overall, I think if you are looking for a restaurant at the casino with good ambiance, good drinks and decent food, I would recommend Scorpion Bar.
