Lebanese food holds a special place in my heart after eating at probably one of my favorite…read morerestaurants in Canada. That is to say, I had high hopes for this place, which was compounded by a recommendation from my then-coworker and still-friend. Eating here marked the first time during my time in Hong Kong where I felt outside of Hong Kong (in other words, in the international/expatriate bubble of Hong Kong). Granted, it was still during my early days and against the backdrop of the protests disrupting normal operations, when I had very few opportunities at the time to explore and appreciate all that Hong Kong has to offer. Located in the madness that is Midlevels, expect to walk up some stairs, and then some. This restaurant's entrance is on the side of where you would take one of many escalators, so keep your eyes peeled and/or pay attention to your CityMapper. The price point is typical of an international restaurant on Hong Kong Island: what finance/business people can afford. And on occasion, educators such as myself. You get what you pay for, as Lebanese food is relatively scarce in East Asia. I take what I can get. I really loved the shawarma hummus and eating it with pita. Such a game changer, so tasty, and of course so pricy. I also enjoyed the way they prepared their falafel, their cauliflower, and their chicken. I was quite pleased by their food offerings. My past coworker brought me to eat here, so to pay it forward, I brought my other coworkers to eat here. Presumably the cycle ended with me, but I would definitely love to come back here.

As my friend was not a big eater, we only ordered the main course. She had the lamb while I had the ribeye steak which was the best decision I made. Every bite I took on the piece of meat made my taste bud crying out for more! It was succulent, cooked to how it was supposed to be. I enjoyed every pieces of it and I got to try the lamb as well, and that was just amazing. I had lamb previously in Seoul and they certainly don't taste as good as this. This certainly made up the disappointment my friend and I had, missing out on our first choice. The atmosphere of the restaurant certainly feels Middle Eastern style but the service on the other hand was a disappointment. They were slow and I can sense their disappointment when we ordered only the main course. Overall, this place is worth the try!

We waited for a bit and I was wondering if they went to pick their own grapefruit..... And, well they kind of did! The manager realized that they didn't have any grapefruit juice in the house so he ran up the block to five other restaurants to get it. Wow. Really cool. I get to talking with him about types of drinks and I happened to mention that I love a good Amarro or Farnet Branca after dinner. Anyway, we order and the first dish is a safron chicken that comes out perfectly cooked. Unique dish served with a great sauce and escarole in a lemony dressing. Then we see the falafel that the other table ordered and remark that we should have ordered that too. The waiter hears us and asks if we also want to order one and we say "why not!". Along comes a perfectly made falafel Egyptian style. Meanwhile, I am still drinking greyhounds and we get our entrees. Mine is a duck risotto with an amazing lemony flavor and crispy duck. My wife had the kabab/skewers of chicken. We finish the meal and the manager remembered our conversation and had gotten a bottle of Amarro. Had a glass of that and a cappuccino to end the night. Great service food and ambiance. Five stars.

There are two things you absolutely have to get here: haloumi cheese salad and the zaaluk. The first is a salad topped with fried pieces of cheese. Sounds standard but YUM tasted like a grilled cheese sandwich without the pesky bread. The second is a wonderful eggplant based dip. Like hummus but much more flavorful. They bring out unlimited pitas, both white and while wheat. Order a bottle of wine to accompany and they'll come around and make sure your drink is never empty. Great service and great food.

One of the more lively places in Soho…read more Yeah Soho is usually chill and all, everyone does some small talks, sips some wine, but Sahara is something different. The ground floor is, almost intentionally, always overcrowded. As in, at its full capacity, you will have a difficult time getting in or out of the place. But it's great in a way no one actually sits uncomfortably. On the upper floor, which they only open it over weekends, is a semi-secret room that imitates a traditional Arabic/Middle Eastern social lounges (no I have no ideas what I'm talking about, but you'll understand once you are there). People take off their shoes and sit casually on the floor with mats and cushions. Pretty unique experience in Hong Kong. Drinks are okay - nothing fancy, but you have your usual suspects all available here. Shisha are good - very traditional, very raw in taste. Nothing to strong. Imagine Bloop, Boba Bear, or Vibe are like the "connoisseur" of shisha, Sahara will be like the down-to-earth, day-to-day friendly kind of shisha (in terms of taste, not here to recommend anyone to have shisha everyday). The food is surprisingly good. I didn't have the chance to try it until recently (usually I'm only here for drinks and shisha), but I liked their meat platter a lot (I don't know the actual name of the dish). And lastly, staff are utterly fun and friendly - they like to engage with the customers and actively make the place as lively as possible. Also interesting to note that, music (and the staff clapping along the music) is noticeably loud here, but having good chitchat here is not a problem at all. I'm not sure if it's the interior design, but I enjoy all the time I am here with good friends.

It is the cheapest snack there... thirty euro for a big one); Ever since I came back to Hong Kong, I have to say that most kebab places here do not deliver... I know it is supposed to be fast food but come on, that does not mean we just want to stuff ourselves without tasting it. All is about to change guys. I came across this AMAZING Turkish place on Lamma Island. The owner is from Turkey so that is going to make you feel more confident about this place. I recommend to have the kebab instead of the burgers here as its kebab is rather tasty. However, I have to warn you guys first. For some reason, its kebab is not made from sliced meat. You know, those you will see the staff slicing meat off a rotating BBQ loaf. I am not sure how they prepare this but the meat is not sliced but chucks. The only reason I still give such high mark is because it tastes really good still. However, I am not sure if that is really authentic kebab; anyways, the flavor is rather impressive. Please expect to wait for your food with patience. Since this is a rather popular place and they only make the food after we order, you have to wait for a bit for the food. But I am telling you, it will be worth it.

The restaurant serves 'new Mediterranean' food, honestly I don't even know what this means, it's just western food to me. My friend and I shared a burger and a mushroom truffle quesadilla, and they did it right!! Service was good, since there were so little people there, they also had a nice and big terrace area if you wanna sit outdoor. Decor was nice and modern, perfect for a weekend brunch. There's a Sunday brunch deal with free flow champagne apparently, you can go to their rooftop bar for 'after party' where DJ spins their magic. Gotta check that out some day! The salad was a bit on the bitter side, but it was well made up with the great fettuccine and the mac & cheese. Compared to the rest of the neighboring western spots, it feels like an easy going spot to enjoy drinks and a vegetarian friendly menu. It is quite loungey at The Nile (as was its predecessor, The Wheel). So much to the point where I've drank here much more often than I've sampled food. The small puffer seats and smallish tables are better for drinks than platters of food. When the AC is on blast, it feels so cool and comfy that I could see myself nodding off here in the late night hours. The food won't knock anyone's socks off. I've had better meat platters (kofta, rack of lamb, merguez sausages, etc.) elsewhere and for a lot less price wise. For a few platters and a drink, one could probably end up in the $300+ per person range (#1). The Nile may serve to be a better date venue than a casual, "let's just get together and snack" kind of place, and I would steer clear of any groups beyond 6-8 people. Service is always going to be outlier at places like this, though I've often believed the higher the price point, the better the service should be. It's been a mixed bag for all of my experiences and as a result, I can't give it better than 3 stars. I'm in Soho often enough to where I'd see myself coming back again and hopefully by then, The Nile (as opposed to Denial) will have improved. ______________ (#1) That Hollywood Road rent is no joke I'm sure.

We came during their lunch service without reservation. We were really lucky to get seated immediately before they got super busy. They have an amazing menu and lunch set menu, but I preferred à la carte. I wished I could order every single item on the menu to try tho because everything just looked so good. My husband always loves the roti canai, so he got both the fish and lamb. I got the Mee Siam, and Hainanese chicken rice. My little one got the fried chicken (excellent, didn't taste like fast food). For desserts and drinks we ordered Teh Tarik (of course), soursop soda, coconut jelly, cendol and durian pudding (their signature desert using Musang King- must try). Everything was delicious and authentic. We all had food coma afterward. Nice, clean and chill vibe. Service was friendly. We'll definitely gonna come back when visiting HK again. The restaurant is on the Second Floor for the Hotel Jen. There is a pretty large and open dining area. We got there at 11:30am, right before the lunch rush came in, and it filled up quickly. We had different dishes and found them to be flavorful, I'd recommend their Rojak which is pretty spicy, their beef satay and Char Kway Teoy. We saved room for their Malaysian shaved ice with ice cream (Ice Kacang) which was really good. This place is better than a lot of the Malaysian food we could get back home in the Bay Area, CA, so I'd highly recommend this place and we'd likely return next time we're in HK.

This trip wasn't our first time here to Mui Wo in fact we had eaten dinner previously next door. This time, Hubby and I had hiked over the "ridge" from Tung Chung to grab a snack. Ok, well we worked up an appetite...so it became more like a dinner and drink. After all, it was a five mile hike up and down the ridgeline. Our friend who lives here recommended The Kitchen. We trusted his palate since the last place we ate with him was pretty good we decided to go with his recommendation. The Kitchen is located west of the ferry pier. We pretty much had an idea of the location and it wasn't hard to find once you pass the ferry entrance/exit. We arrived hungry, parched and tired to an open area restaurant situated at the base of some flats. An inviting restaurant with open window and a covered area facing the bay. It would have made for an idea setting except for the various parked working vans and buses blocking our view of the bay. You want small, intimate and family feeling? This is your place. It only had six tables with brightly colored chairs and a small bar area, it's truly perfect for the area to gather solo or with a small group. I immediately loved the vibe. It was a still considered a "holiday" here with CNY still going strong, so it was probably quiet for a Saturday afternoon/evening. Our sever immediately greeted us and allowed us to choose our table. We knew we wanted pizza before she even handed us the menu. We chose a white Sauvignon Blanc which was cool and refreshing to sip on as we waited for our pizza. Surprisingly, it was quite quick! Out came a crispy, thin crusted, meat covered pizza which we gazed at and then dove into. A "small" sized pie was 6 slices. And from the photo, you can see it was "large"enough for the two of us! Sausage, bacon, pepperoni and ? It was so delicious! Fresh herbs, cheese and sauce...I think I want another one! While the service wasn't anything to rave about. If you come to Mui Wo, bring an empty stomach and try this place out. You won't be disappointed! We'll definitely be hiking over more often to try out other stuff too!
