Let me start by saying that air travel is a large part of my job. I typically go for longer…read moreperiods of at least 2-weeks, sometimes months. For the last 15 years, I have travelled with 2 large checked bags; one with suits, "work" shoes/clothes, and other personal items you would need on a long trip, the other with everyday clothes, work equipment, and any miscellaneous overflow. As such, these bags always exceed the 50lb. limit. I regularly refer to them as "The Evil Twins" or "Thing 1 and Thing 2"... always troublesome. In the past, I had looked for hard-side polycarb composite bags for durability and content protection (particularly the equipment which a soft-sided bag just could not protect). Never wanting to spend much on bags that were going to be abused no matter what, I eventually settled on a Traveler's Choice Tasmania set with two 29" bags serving as "The Twins". I replaced each one with the same bag once over the years as they were eventually beaten up by baggage handlers unable to properly deal with the weight, slamming them down on their wheels. The wheels were never great to begin with; always difficult to roll together on airport terrazzo and a downright burden to pull down carpeted hotel hallways. This was always made worse when they were slammed down, breaking the bond that solidly held the wheel to the case. To their credit, they never broke off, but they were never right after that. To their discredit, they were never particularly light or maneuverable even when new. Towards the end of last year, I got a great new job with an amazing company. As my travels would continue and the twins were tired and ready to re-tire, I decided to invest in new bags. I did not want to spend a fortune (I just can't see pulling the trigger on two $1000 bags, no matter how awesome), but wanted something more durable, as large as or larger, hopefully lighter, and, most importantly, good wheels. Please, sweet gods of travel, good wheels. I decided I needed the advice of a professional. I had passed by Bronx Luggage many times over the years thinking "Why are luggage stores still around? Why don't people just order luggage from Amazon?" You may be reading this because you have thought the same things. I'm about to answer those questions (which now seem stupid), but I digress.... So I thought; "I'll go in, give them the story (that I just told you all), and listen to what they have to say." I went in skeptical. I told the man my reasons and requirements, and he began to go over my options and selections. I was already starting to be swayed when Marty joined in with additional suggestions. Wow. He explained that for a little bit more, I could have Bric's B/Y Ulisse bags. Made of polypropylene, they're LIGHTER, bigger, more durable, and, the kicker... great wheels. Italian-made quality. Winner. Yeah, you can find these bags on Amazon. You can also find them in places like Bloomingdales and Nordstrom. No matter, because of their brand, these bags are the same price WHEREVER you buy them. But trust me when I tell you they made it worth my while to purchase them from Bronx Luggage Store. I left with new twins and a new outlook on Bronx Luggage Store. Places like these exist BECAUSE of people like Marty. Personable, helpful, but most of all, knowledgeable. I can talk to dozens of colleagues and countless people that travel. How many have personal experience with the sheer number of brands and options that Marty has? Want know which bags get returned for what reasons and which fit your travel needs the best? Ask them. After 30+ years in the business, they've probably handled it before (and then some). But more than all of that, in this day and age of superstores, websites that sell EVERYTHING, AI suggestions, return policies, phone-routed customer service, on hold, enter a callback number, leave a voicemail.... It's a blessing to be able to deal with real people. Try them, you won't be sorry. Posting a pic of the new twins after their latest excursion.

It was $750+ (which is a lot for me). But I figured it was a worthy lifetime investment. However, when the luggage set showed up, the cartons were opened and one of the suitcases was unzipped and expanded and gave the distinct impression that it had been opened before. For $750+, I expect a brand new product in a properly sealed carton (a perfectly reasonable expectation). I reached out to customer service and provided some requested pictures, just to have them dismiss it as "minor cosmetic damage" and suggest I just keep it. I know Travelpro's warranty is great but I should not have to wonder if I need to take advantage of it immediately upon delivery. It looks like they don't do exchanges but rather I have to return it and rebuy. They have kept silent on whether they will honor the original price I paid (I bought during their Memorial Day sale). UPDATE: They refuse to provide a discount code so that I am not screwed over by their poor quality control. What a terrible way to treat customers who spend their hard-earned money with Travelpro.

I had one brand and only one brand in mind TravelPro so I did research on Amazon and I narrowed it down to the Crew Versapak Max. Amazon wanted $220, Macy's $480 and a local travel store wanted $250. On Google Shopping I was introduced to Luggageontheweb.com(Village Luggage) and I could not be happier. Not only did they charge $173 with free shipping and no taxes they have this Friendly lady who answers the phone and is happy to answer any questions and is very patient. When the order did not go through she was patient and then it finally came in and we confirmed that this bag would meet my needs. As this company Drop Ships from TravelPro as they have been dealing with them for 50 years and this business has been in business for longer than that I felt confident. What sold me is that they give a complimentary Leather Monogramed Luggage Tag with my initials. Not only did I save $30 I am getting better service and I highly recommend this business to anyone who needs luggage . Its truly a boutique and personalized business. I won't turn anywhere else. Ebags had other bags for more expensive and I do not want to purchase a bag from a department store as I am able to order my luggage at my own leisure. As I work in Tourism I know a good bag and my retired Flight Attendant friend swears by TravelPro and the kind Customer Service rep said that the Webmaster loves TravelPro and they get many sales for their bags so it brought me even more confidence. This TravelPro had every feature of my old Victorinox like a removable suitor and a similar size. Its also very light at 7.9 lbs and this bag has more features like the option to have a Battery Bank to charge my phone, Optional Travel Packing Cubes that you can zip in for $30, room or up to a 17" laptop and an included Toiletry Kit bag and a great handle. Italy has been on my bucket list for quite a while now. I told her places I really wanted to see and said I was flexible on dates as well as itinerary. She asked my name, address, phone number, email, budget etc. and spend about 15 minutes on the phone with me. The. She tells me - get this - "In order for me to put something together for you we charge $150 per person ($300 for myself and husband) I was upset over this for several reasons. 1st: this should have been told up front, not after getting all of my personal information. 2nd : I know my friends did not pay any fees. Then to top it off I have inboxed several of the other Yelpers who left 5 star reviews and guess what? Not a single person had to pay any fees upfront. It's lasted through travels all over the world, acted as my life preserver when a ship on the Amazon overturned and is now a visually historic standout of times gone by. I've included a picture of it. So, I stopped by Shine Bags & Luggage in the Coral Ridge Mall. Shine Bags has been here for years and I've bought little things like backpacks from them previously. It's spotlessly clean and has bright lighting making your selection easy. Most everything in this store is of quality meaning meant to last. It's more expensive than the knockoffs found at the Swap Shop but worth it if you don't want to see your underwear, shirts and clothing appear on the luggage turnstyle prior to the remains of your fallen apart suitcase. As I've always used Zero-Halliburton Aluminum, I'm rather loath to change but now with them priced at $950, I might be just as well off with a new Samsonite carbon fiber that saw here for around $290. Anyway the selection a Shine Bags is really good with everything of good enough in quality for most travelers. Fortunately they have bags that are unique in appearance so you won't get stuck sorting through all those black American Tourister bags searching for your own or having yours taken by mistake. Really, don't buy the typical all black soft American Tourister bag or you'll have a devil of a time finding amongst all of the others.

So the first thing I noticed the for a relatively small store, it's pretty jammed packed with stuff. As in the title, the store has luggage and bags. The bags are hung along the back wall and the luggage was everywhere else. I kind of thought the prices were reasonable. The downside for me is the quality. Now I took a look at one, tried to unzip it and when I was done the zipper looked like it was going to break already, without any clothing on it. That's not going to last at all if you check it at the airport. I noticed most bags were around $35-$60 generally. Some bags looked like they'd be alright to travel with, but they were all names I'd never heard of before. Not saying that's good or bad, but I was not familiar with any of the suitcase brands. Would I get a bag here? Maybe. It depends on if I was looking for something long-lasting or not. If I'm looking for something to last a lifetime, then no way. If I'm looking for something cheap(ish) in both quality and price, then sure, why not?
