This is one of the few places in Switzerland that I've seen with real American-style bagels. Well,…read morethey do tout themselves as an American bakery, so it's good that they are trying live up to their namesake. ;)
In addition to bagels, they also sell donuts, coffee cake, cookies, muffins, banana bread, bagel sandwiches, muesli, yogurt, and an array of hot and cold drinks.
They only offer two kinds of bagels--plain and blueberry. Both are good--but like the giant bretzels in this country... cold. I wish they would toast them, but hey--beggars can't be choosers.
Only the plain bagels come filled with cream cheese. And they totally stuff the bagel with so much cream cheese that it's literally exploding out of the bagel and made a mess when I was trying to eat it. The cream cheese tasted pretty good, but it wasn't American Philly. There was actually way too much filling, and although I love cream cheese, I was actually starting to feel a little bit sick from eating it.
This place used to be on the main floor of Zürich Hauptbahnhof, but now they've relocated underground to the recently renovated Shopville section, which is much nicer for dining in.
Prices are in line with the rest of Switzerland... which means high for anyone coming from another country. They also accept Reka Card and credit cards as forms of payment, so that's nice.
Although it's really easy to make banana bread at home, I made an impulse decision at the counter to try a slice of their banana bread. Turns out it contained hazelnuts in addition to the standard walnuts... so I guess typical Swiss. It was really moist, but way too sweet for my liking.
