Many of the cafe's along the street had outdoor seating. As I was coming to Steinmann's I noticed the bright green table clothes, packed tables, and line not only coming out of the store, but also waiting to receive scoops of ice cream from an outdoor stand. I couldn't help but notice the beautiful Easter bunnies in the window, and yummy looking treats. I went inside and was overwhelmed by the beautiful bright colors and numerous bodies. There was a small seating area located downstairs, and a separate tea-room upstairs, which had an additional counter with yummy treats to choose from. I picked an item to take away from the store below, and then was caught by the yummy ice cream treats people were eating outside. I found an open table so took it to enjoy the warmth of the sunshine. There were three plastic menus at the outdoor tables. A coffee drink menu, an ice cream treat menu, and a sweet treats menu (tarts, pies, etc). I was overwhelmed by all the choices. The ice cream creations looked quite large and extravagant. I just wanted a tiny scoop of the ice cream. Did I mention the ice cream is house made? I had to sample it. So I decided to order one of the coffee creations and asked for two tiny scoops of ice cream, nothing fancy. However, the lady made the tiny scoops of ice cream look amazing, and the coffee drink was amazing. The cream in the coffee drink was also house made, and was amazing. It felt decadent. I am very glad I didn't have much for lunch. I was full just after this. Even though the place was extremely busy the staff was very friendly and timely. I was shocked as I was ready to wait for awhile. The ice cream was heavenly and the coffee drink was scrumptious as well. I would go back to Thun just to enjoy this place again!

I went towards the end of the evening near closing time, so the cookies and pastries had already been picked over quite a bit. Luckily, I was here to get a gingerbread man, and I picked out the cutest one ever (see photos)! I've rarely met a gingerbread I didn't like, and this version was a-okay. It wasn't as spicy as I'd like, but it had a nice chewy crunch to the cookie that made the texture quite satisfying. Of course, as is my method, I nibbled off his arms and legs first. I'm not such a fan of the icing, and Gilg's version I found quite bland. It was sweet, but not tasty. My cookie was individually wrapped in plastic which made it easy to reseal to enjoy later. I was able to take a few more nibbles on my train to Paris the next afternoon. And did I mention how stinking cute the cookie was? The little wide eyes and "o" face...just adorable. I could see these making excellent gifts to take home from Europe, if you could keep the cookies from breaking during transit. The other goods on offer looked tasty, but if the gingerbread man is any indication, this may be one of those "all looks, bland taste" type of bakeries. I wish I had tried something else, but my main reason to visit was merely "just okay."
