Horrific Experience - Rude Staff, Neglected Pets, and Police Called on My Wife We dropped off three pets at 12:00 noon, exactly as scheduled. The groomer told us they'd be ready in about three hours. After not hearing anything for quite a while, we called several times to check in--but couldn't get a live person. Just voicemail or endless ringing. By 4:45 PM, still no word. My wife went to the store to check in person. Instead of being greeted or updated, she was rudely snapped at with, "Are you Kerri? You were supposed to drop off the dogs at noon." She replied that I had already dropped them off at noon, just like we were told. The woman dismissively insisted there were no dogs there, and that the groomer had already gone home for the day. Unwilling to accept that, my wife walked into the grooming area herself and found all three of our dogs soaking wet and locked in cages, clearly uncomfortable and left completely unattended. There was zero explanation, zero communication, and no apology. Rightfully upset and thinking the pets could have been standed overnight, my wife cursed out loud--and I don't blame her. She immediately retrieved the dogs and took them home, since no services were completed and our pets had clearly been neglected. To make matters worse, instead of taking any responsibility, the owner actually called the police on my wife for "non-payment"--even though the job wasn't finished and the service was nowhere near acceptable. I did go back the next day and paid in full, with a promise that I would tell everyone I know not to solicit Baers. This was a disgraceful experience from top to bottom. From rude and disorganized staff, to abandoned animals, to the utter lack of accountability, and finally the outrageous decision to involve law enforcement over a failed service -- this place has no business handling people's pets. We will never be back, and I urge anyone reading this to think twice before trusting your animals to this store. read more

I've never had such a horrible experience in my life , I've had dogs for over 40 years and have dealt with many groomers some wonderful so some okay but none bad. This place is horrible they are the rudest people, they lied , and the fee was double the estimated amount and the worst part was my dogs were shaking when I picked them up. I would rather stick needles in my eyes than deal with this place again. read more

We used Baer's several times for grooming and it was great. In fact we had regular appointments for every five week. Then we showed up one day and was told that a groomer had quit and they had called all the people with appointments and rescheduled. When I stated I had obviously not been called as I was standing there and would not have come had I been called. The woman behind the desk slammed a notebook with a list of names and numbers on the counter, yelled at me that she has dozens of people that she cant manage to schedule because she does not have enough help. She preceded to walk away and stop talking to me. I assume she was having a bad day and left with plans to follow up. I have called twice to try to schedule appointments and was told both time that the groomer schedules her own appointments and will call me back. After three weeks I scheduled elsewhere. read more

This situation had nothing to do with Baer's Pet Depot ... until it did ... and then I was furious. I was out for a walk on a little trail that leads from Baer's parking lot through the woods to the police station. It's a short trail, but very pleasant. I wasn't too far into it when two dogs came charging at me, jumped up on me, and knocked me to the ground. I'm 78, so being knocked to the ground is a scary event. What's worse, however, is that I recently had a knee replacement, and have been trying to walk each day as a part of my physical therapy. But now, I'd fallen and couldn't get up. At this point, I saw the bandages on the dogs ears, a tipoff that he was connected with the Pet Depot. The dog owner said he would help, but was completely incapable of help, simply because he couldn't control the dogs. Before long, somebody else saw what happened, and helped me up. I was grateful for him. (I wish I could remember or know who he was so I could thank him.) The dog guy left, with the dogs ... all flailing. I found my way home ... shaking, rattled, hurting, and perplexed at why the dog owner couldn't contain his dogs. So I went over to Baer's the following day to inquire. The woman at the desk knew me, and said "oh, you're the person who FELL on the trail the other day, right?" I'm starting to get a different picture of the story that had been spun. I asked to see the manager, intent that this guy be reprimanded, or even terminated. The manager came out to greet me. IT WAS THE GUY WITH THE DOGS ON THE TRAIL. When I started pushing on him a bit about his lack of responsibility, he pushed back, blaming ME. This went on for a few more minutes of unpleasantries. I soon realized, at least for THIS moment, it was time to give up. The reason I'm writing this review is because it is so abundantly clear to me that this guy took zero personal responsibility for anything that happened, despite the fact that it was his damn fault. Perhaps worse, he had zero compassion for my situation. I cannot IMAGINE him being the manager of the store. I can ONLY imagine how his unacceptable and detrimental attitude affects his work, his employees, his customers, and their pets. It puts the entire "company" he runs in serious question. This has to be the least professional establishment I have ever known. I make an appointment for a grooming a week in advance. They call me 5 days later and say they can't do it-- a bath and brushing--no apology-- no explanation-- no other availability. THEY DO NOT WANT YOUR BUSINESS . read more

I made an online order and showed up there 40 minutes after to find one woman tending to the one customer in the store and another worker playing with guinea pigs and told me that my oder wasn't even picked out yet and that they weren't even sure if they had my order in stock. I have been taking my 2 German Shepherds to this place for the past 2+ years for nail trim with grind. After making the appointment yesterday and making sure rabies records were updated today I brought the female in first. The groomer finished cutting the nails and was removing Z from stand. I asked why her nails were not Grind/filed. Her response was she was not told and the groomer said she had cut nails short enough. I asked her to grind/file as I had paid for that service. She did. Now I brought my male GS in and when she got done I noticed the nails were still to long. I asked groomer to make them shorter and groomer said they were short enough. I still heard nails tapping on floor. The other groomer there before the 2 today was much better and very pleasant. I don't like writing 1 star reviews but I feel this is needed. Stopped in yesterday for some dog accessories. The store seemed fine and employee at the register was friendly and efficient. What truly struck me, however, were the two large parrots they have in separate 3'x3'x4' cages in the store. Both were vocal and seemed to be in no distress. One was located by the registers and seemed to watch the comings and going's of customers at the register. I learned from the cashier the name of the parrot by the register and the fact that he was 39 years old and may live another 30-40 years. It made me incredibly sad to hear that. I wondered what it must be like for this animal, perhaps born in the wild and caught by poachers, or maybe even bred and born in captivity, to have to live its life in the confine s of a small cage in a small store. I would rather know it was free to fly on the wing at will, naturally, and yes, even risk disease and predation in the wild beauty of some tropical forest, but at least living its life as it should rather than inside a cage, no matter how gilded. And now it's the middle of the night and I have awoken with these two birds in my mind. Sad. read more

We've been regular customers (we like to support local stores) there for quite a while what with owning 500 pounds of dogs, 2 cats and 2 rabbits. That's *been* ... past tense. Never again. Went in today (1/25/23) with a small (red) dog collar we got for a mostly white sheep dog puppy. Mostly-white and, now, red-around-the-neck puppy. The dye from the inside of the Up Country collar was coming off and staining the puppy's neck. When I brought the collar in I spoke to a diminutive woman with overly large eye lashes. Not offering either a scintilla of interest or concern, you would have thought I was trying to return a snow tire. I showed her a picture of my red-necked puppy and the red interior of the collar. She asked when did I buy it "because we have a 30-day return policy." I explained that I simply came in to show her what happened because I thought she'd like to know. (It's what considerate people do.) I immediately got the expected "well that's never happened before" and she suggested instead that I could contact the company. But I bought it from you, not the company. Her response: "What do you want me to do?" I handed her the collar and left. I certainly didn't want a store credit because I am never going back. Between Amazon and Chewy there are too many great options to this kind of attitude and shabby treatment. (ex: Chewy sent us a fabulous flower arrangement when a cat died!) I felt sorry for the fish I saw, swimming around in about 8 ounces of water. And anyone else who has to deal with this woman. But if you miss shopping in da Bronx, this could be a great experience. read more

Our favorite store for treats, food, toys, medicine & grooming. The staff is amazing, friendly, kind and very helpful. They have a great selection of quality products & it's always very clean & organized. Our dogs love going in. Amanda the groomer is phenomenal. She is so sweet & professional. Our first visit was because Baer's PET DEPOT was the only one open at the time we needed one. Our first observation was misleading, entering the front door, quickly catching view of the maybe eight, nicely stocked shelves. (Not much to offer and probably pricey, we thought.) Up and down to isles and finally requested assistance from a lady at the counter, busy working on tiny jewelry. Her knowledge of... well let's just say she quickly and pleasantly knew where there were shampoos and specialty shampoos. Later interrupting er for the third time, she proved more interactive than we gave her credit for. Helping us find the quietest toy (surprised herself that just about all dog toys {not kong} had squeaks AND proudly labels as such). We left much more pleased with the young lady, definitely! THEN - Needed a Veterinarian Initially to the animal hospital closest to me, couldn't take us, directed us elsewhere. Utilizing an Ap, headed to a 'highly recommended' location while on hold, finally informed they too were unable to see my little friend. Luckily for us, it was them who said to go directly to Baer's. "Don't go anywhere else. He is phenomenal and I believe has an emergency clinic there ..." Aha! There you've got it... "phenomenal" Not only do they have a Vet office, BUT he himself - wow, very thorough, asked questions I hadn't thought of, informed us of things never heard of AND the visit was not a 'wham bam thank you Ma'am" and to our surprise the fee was less than a regular scheduled Vet visit, with 2 antibiotics to boot! Oh and I've yet to mention the young ladies at the itty bitty non obtrusive desk. Un-believ-ably patient, understanding and calming- truly made me feel at ease. Beginning to end... Now we, (Mister Maxx) have a place to go, that has our full trust in their capabilities and we can feel a little more at home in our new town. . Great Grooming experience with Amanda. I have a 19 yr old shih tzu who she was patient and loving with, She came home looking like a million bucks and happy as a clam! I already use Dr. Baer as my vet for my 3 shih tzus. It's nice to know their groomer is a great as Dr. Baer is! read more

Amanda in the grooming department was great! I was unable to groom my 5 month tiny maltese' face nor trim her nails, even though I've totally groomed my 2 year old without any problem. She's a scrapper. Amanda, however, had no problem! GiGi actually napped on her grooming table. And cute! She even managed a topknot w/ a cute bow !!!!! Amanda's excellent. Only problem (which is great as it shows her skill level) is trying to get an appointment w/ her. She books up fast!!! read more

This place is great. I first came here before I bought my fiancé a puppy. The staff was so helpful. From picking out a crate to just being excited for the arrival of a new puppy. Dr Baer and his staff always take the time to say hello to us. They have great care plans for cats and dogs. As well as a great groomer who treats our puppy with loving care when he gets his nails trimmed. This is also the only place I have found that carries Now puppy and dog food which is all our puppy eats. Great place stop in and visit and just ask the staff or Dr Baer any questions you might have. I stopped in, in hopes of finding pet supplies closer to my house but staff weren't interested in assisting me today. No greeting when I walked in no "can I help you" as I wandered the store trying to find my brand of dog food and crickets. Needless to say I won't be stopping back for any of my pets needs, and we've got quite a few pets.( 2 dogs, cat, geckos, and koi fish) when I did find my dog food it was $20 more expensive then Petsmart and I didn't see anything else I was looking for. read more

Do not purchase animals at Baer's in Mashpee. Purchased a baby guinea pig one week ago from them and realized guinea pig is sick. Called and brought back to vet who is the owner of the store. They refused to cover cost. Seems like a major conflict of interest at best to be selling sick animals and then benefitting off their vet bills. Wanted to warn others so they don't experience a similar situation. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! The staff there is friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful in every way possible. The store is clean and shelves are well maintained and stocked. The animals all look 100% healthy, in clean well maintained enclosures. They even let you handle some of the animals. I go in some times just to visit the ferrets. and Yes this is no large chain store but they make up for that in their ability to get you things they might not have. The grooming area is great. You know that your furry family member will look fantastic after a trip to the salon. They also have the benefit of having a veterinarian office in the building!! The vet Dr baer, his wife, and all of the vet technicians are fantastic. I bring my black lab doyle there and he is always excited to go for a ride to the vet. As far as price goes they have something that I have never seen anywhere else, plans for both cats and dogs (for young, adult, and senior animals). I could go on and on about this place and how great it is(I carry around their business cards and tell complete strangers to go to them). Check them out, talk to Dr baer, visit the grooming salon. I promise you will not be disappointed. I know I never am. read more

Convenient location since I live in Mashpee. Good reasonable store hours, unlike capemaid closing at 6pm. Good choice of products, though i wish they had better dog treat selection and lower prices..but since its the commons its understandable. As for people whining about bad customer service..I love not being bothered by annoying sales people..I can think for myself and find the products I need. I also wish they had a better frozen fish food selection since I have a marine fish tank but some food is better than none when your out. Overall its a nice store, clean, and interesting animals to look at, nice girls up front as well. 4/5 read more

Horrible store. The employees are unknowlagable about their products, fish, and pets. One girl chased around my fish for 20 minutes before catching it. Needless to say 4 of the 5 fish we bought died and THEY DONT GUARANTEE the fish. They would not replace the fish or refund the $38 we spent on them! Geez, even Petsmart guarantees fish for 5 days! Not a good choice of pet store. Go to Cape Maid Farms, they are awesome, helpful and have a zillion products. I'm sorry I went to Bares but I thought I'd try them out since they are closer. read more

I have had the pleasure of visiting this store numerous times for a few different reasons. The staff in the store is always willing to help with any questions or concerns you may have, if they don't have the answer they do what they can to find out. Even when they didn't have things I wanted in stock they were always willing to order whatever I needed.
