Through a lark I decided to change doctors to get a urologist closer to home. The new doctor referred me to Dr. Gelman. As it turns out, Dr. Gelman's office is very close to where I live and he's been doing urethral reconstruction since 1998 - and that's all he does. Dr. Gelman went out of his way to describe the two procedure options and the likely outcome for each. He also did a good job setting up expectations and time-tables. The procedure went very well - in fact I had my 64th birthday the day after the procedure - and I am now fully recovered. I can urinate without restriction and without any kind of urethral "management". And let me once again emphasize - urethral reconstruction is all he does! My…read morehusband and I are currently fighting a bill because Dr. Lee's office is billing this as a hospital bill instead of a doctor's visit and they refuse to fix the billing codes. The charges are astronomical because it's as if my husband walked into the ER for and ER visit and labs (imagine how much more hospitals charge for this than a regular doctor). So we have now received a bill for almost $600 plus another bill from a lab that is "out-of-area" (without my husband's consent). If you make a regular doctor's visit appointment, BEWARE that you will be charged as if you went to the hospital at UCI instead of the doctor's office where you made the appointment. There are more charges, but this shows how they are billing with hospital codes.We have seen several doctors who have offices in medical centers and have never been billed this way. This is unacceptable and we will continue to fight this!
