We took the leftovers home. In our opinion if something is clearly not up to standards you should adopt a policy of not charging a guest for the food they hardly touched. Lets face it, things go wrong from time to time. I am and have been faced with the same challenges at the restaurants and hotels I have managed over the last 40 years but showing genuine concern and providing good customer service will pay off in the long run. Please empower your staff to do the right thing. They can tell if a guest has a genuine complaint. Instead of answering my question, he simply pointed at the menu on the wall and said, "That's our menu." I wasn't asking what beers you had, I was asking for a recommendation. It came across as dismissive. On another visit, I had a wonderful experience with a female bartender. She was friendly, accommodating, and made my drink exactly how I requested. Unfortunately, on a later visit I ended up with the same male bartender again. I ordered a cocktail and politely asked if he could make it a little sweeter. His response was, "We make it how we make it." I told him that was completely fine and just asked if he could make it slightly sweeter. He replied, "I'll try." The drink came out with no sweetness at all, and it honestly didn't seem like any effort was made to accommodate a simple request. I don't expect every request to be possible, but I do expect friendly customer service and a willingness to help when it's something so minor. Finally, we had the grilled octopus. Seriously some of the best I had. Nice and tender and grilled just right. Service was outstanding and attentive. Atmosphere was lively, without being noisy. It's with how their manager, Anthony, handled the situation. Instead of showing empathy, apologizing, or making us feel like valued customers, Anthony spoke to my wife in a condescending, disrespectful, argumentative and unprofessional manner. No customer should ever be talked down to or belittled. A manager sets the tone for the entire restaurant. Anthony's behavior turned our evening into an unacceptable dining experience. Because of him, and him alone, we will never come back. I hope management take this review seriously. Food can always be corrected, but the way customers are treated is what determines whether they'll ever return. Unfortunately, because of how Anthony handled this situation, we will not be back, and we will not recommend Estuary to others. I sincerely hope no future customer has to experience the same treatment.
