As an visitor from the U.S., I was craving authentic German cuisine on our first night in Berlin…read more Since our hotel was in the shopping district of Berlin, we had less than a 15-minute walk to get to Berlinchen. Upon arrival, we were asked where we wanted to sit, though we were advised that sitting outside was cooler than sitting inside. So we did just that. As they receive many tourists, they had the ingredients in English under each dish. Our server was friendly and showed us all the photos of the dishes on his iPad, which was helpful as we were not familiar with many of the dishes. He also let us know what items were not included on the menu and showed us the photos. We all ordered still water (in bottles), the Berliner Weisse, and beers. For myself, I ordered the Beef Gulasch with egg noodles (Rinder-Gulasch mit Pilzen & Spatzle). My husband ordered the giant currywurst with french fries (Berliner Currywurst XL mit Pommes frites). My parents ordered a salad and one of the non-menu special dishes that had pork loin, gulasch, bean sprouts, and mashed potatoes. The Rinder-Gulasch mit Pilzen & Spatzle had an enormous portion of egg noodles compared to the amount of the beef gulasch. However, since the gulasch was on the saltier side, eating the gulasch along with heaping amounts of the egg noodles helped balance out the taste. The beef was also tender and paired well with the texture of the egg noodle. The Berliner Currywurst XL mit Pommes frites was... interesting. I was expecting the currywurst to have a meaty texture, but when I bit into it, I found the texture spongey like tofu. If I was told the currywurst was vegan, I would have believed it. I think they should have included more of the sauce (ketchup) that came with it, but again, this is Germany, and you have to request and pay for anything extra here. My husband, who typically eats heavy, could not finish this plate as we were all sampling each other's food and he really liked my Rinder-Gulasch. When we come back to Berlin, we would love to try the other items on their menu. I highly recommend this place!

We came here after having been turned away by an Indonesian restaurant that was "full for the night". We are so glad that fate brought us here instead of that Indonesian restaurant!! What were we even thinking anyway -- forget the Indonesian food, get the local specialities!! Ordered the schnitzel as well as the meatballs and both were executed perfectly. Schnitzel was hot and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside -- not overly salty either. Meatballs were juicy and packed with flavor from the minced onions that they had mixed in. The beer (we ordered a Pilsner) was the best that we had tried in all of the Berlin and Dresden restaurants that we visited. I believe it is from some small private brewery affiliated with the restaurant somehow. Whatever they are doing, they are doing it right, so definitely order the house beer. Super cozy seating (you'll probably be sharing a table with other guests) and packed all night long but amazing vibes and casual comfort food. Would come back if I ever visit Berlin again!

We tried to go to a nearby Greek place but they were full and kind of rude too. We walked over here and the place was empty at 6:30 pm so a bit worried. No need. The draft Pilsner was very excellent and the food was outstanding and reasonably priced. We got pork schnitzel and meatballs and it was really very tasty. Would recommend!

We had our best meal in Berlin at Marjellchen! We stayed at the Westin in Mitte, and the Uber ride…read moreto Marjellchen was totally worthwhile. Food: Excellent food. Potato soup was perfect. We had the pork shank and the game goulash. The goulash was fantastic. Yes cabbage was perfect. The potatoes wrestle pork shank were probably cooked in bacon fat and were sublime. My only nit to pick is the dumplings with the goulash were flavorless gooey dough balls. Drinks: Excellent draft beer. Try the Duckstein red! It's fantastic. Also the "Potato Snap" (like a home brewed vodka) is a fun and interesting shot before dinner! Service: Rather slow but the poor wait staff are completely overworked. Ambiance: Quaint, almost like a dining room in an old home. Value: For the quality, value is solid. Dinner and beer for 2 with 5% tip for just under 100 Euros.

Service: young girl was our waitress and was very busy but very friendly. She was not able to checkup on us after we ordered, so order everything you need. Drinks: they had 3 beer on draught, got the red blonde and it was delicious made me think of an Irish Red. Food: we ordered potato soup and it was delicious! Creamy yet chunky. The bread with the butter sour cream?? Spread paired perfectly with the soup. As our main I got the pork knuckle and my husband got the game goulash. The pork nuckle was very tender fall off the bone, I tried to eat the skin but it was too salty but the pork was super delicious. The potatoes were incredible! With chunks of bacon and the soft interior with the slight crispy exterior was just perfect side. The German coleslaw was crunchy with hint of sour and sweet. It cut through the fat of the pork and was a crunchy brightness to the entire dish. Restaurant: romantic and cozy and clean Bathroom: clean

But when I arrived the doors were locked. Couldn't get in. No one answered. Yelp said they were open, Google said they were open, even their own posted hours on their own door/window said they were open. But they weren't. No handwritten note of explanation, no "sorry, be right back," just nothing but a locked door and confusion. (And for the record, I speak German so I would've recognized and understood it if they had written something in German) So at this point I have absolutely nothing to recommend about this place. I couldn't even recommend showing up and trying because they might be randomly closed even when they're supposed to be open. I understand that life happens, emergencies can pop up, workers can call in sick, etc. But as a responsible business owner you need to at least let your customers know that something happened. Simply having them arrive and pull at the door confused isn't good business. If there had been some kind of note I would've been disappointed but not upset. I would've waited to write this review until I had gotten a chance to try it. But that kind of lack of concern for customers said enough all by itself.

My parents are in town for the holidays, and when making a list of things they want to do and see,…read morethey said they wanted authentic Käsespätzle. OK, easy enough. But a place that serves Käsespätzle that's good AND vegan dishes? A tall order. Or maybe it was five years ago. Now more and more places have vegan options that aren't just potatoes and mushrooms. So I compiled a list of spots in town with good reviews of Käsespätzle and one or two vegan entrees, and sent it over. They looked at the list and decided that Die Feinbäckerei looked best to them. So we called and made a reservation. We showed up at 3pm on a Saturday, just as they were opening, and it was quiet, with only one other table. My parents and son all ordered the classic Käsespätzle and I got the vegan Maultauschen made of beets. Let's just say, we all were pleased with our meals. The food was excellent in taste and quality, and the portions were huge. My son also wanted Kaiserschmarrn -- a dish that is for two... at least -- but no one else had room to share. So he ate it (and loved it) and we took the rest home with us, which he ate the next day. Our service was also excellent! And the place was really cozy and unassuming. As we were leaving, it was starting to fill up, so although we didn't need reservations, definitely get them if you're coming for dinner. And although it's a bit of a trek from my side of town, I wouldn't think twice about coming back again.
