We hired Backyard Depot to build us a pond less waterfall. We met with Keith and told him of our vision and expectations as this was not a cheap venture. The workers started and instead of ordering top soil by the yard, they brought in multiple bags of soil which I'm sure were more expensive. After completing what they thought was a waterfall, we were totally disappointed. We ended having to show them examples from their own brochure as to what our vision and expectations were. They ended up deconstructing the first waterfall and upon their second attempt, they finally got it right. They've had to come back a few times to fix leaks, other than that, it's a beautiful waterfall. The only reason for 3 stars is that they really need to put their best foot forward on their design of their waterfall. You, as a customer shouldn't have to explain in detail what you expected vs. the product that they delivered. read more

Just completed a pondless water feature with water falling into a stream from a waterfall. Workers were superior with each knowing his job and doing it well and efficiently. Had a koi pond for years. We hired Backyard Depot to do a pool deck (cement), drainage & landscaping. The day they were to start we had to reach out to find out they wouldn't start for 2 more weeks. They started and would work 1-3 hours a day and wouldn't accomplish anything. Then it came time to do drainage - all I can say is they created a bigger mess and more flooding than we already had. They showed up with a couple of shovels (to level our yard) and some sod. Added a couple of random drains - and then we got RAIN!!! We are now almost 2 months into our project and Keith (the owner) realizes he cannot complete our job - so YES he did do a partial refund and we had to search and find someone to come and fix their mess!!! This entire project has been a nightmare - no communication - changing what we signed on the contract. We had to monitor their work because the owner wasn't. He would show up and say all the right things and acknowledge how bad things were - YET, he never followed through on promises. It is now June 12 and our yard is still not done!!! We had extensive landscaping work completed by Backyard Depot in 2015. Although the job took 30 days longer than originally planned the final product (other than drainage) is beautiful. The owner is such a nice guy, however, his crews are not reliable or responsible. They made many mistakes along the way (dripped stain on our new paved patio, installed electrical/gas outlets in incorrect locations, etc.). Today we were forced to file a small claims action against the company as their drainage work has never been sufficient. I would recommend NOT using them for any drainage and BE SURE YOU GET any warranties in WRITING! read more

We purchased a home recently with a Koi pond in the back yard. The pond needed some work, so I spoke with Keith (owner) and asked if he could provide an estimate to make the pond more attractive, as well as functional in order to populate the pond with Koi fish. Keith did come to my home and provided an estimate and commented the existing landscape around the pond wasn't his favorite design. I asked if he could change the overall appearance and he said yes. After paying Keith almost $2,000 for his "work", the landscaping hasn't changed and it was still necessary to contact him several times afterword to correct leaks and other items that should have been observed by him initially such as half of the water flow from the pump wasn't going back into the pond. After investigating we found more leaks due to faulty installation and shoddy connections which were hidden under some heavy rocks Several attempts to contact Keith for a resolution resulted in his response "I'll come by this afternoon or early in the morning".- he did neither. Now he simply ignores our text and voice messages. Being a senior citizen on a limited income I don't have the luxury of spendable finances to continue investing on a hole in the ground filled with water! I'm at the point of draining the pond and filling it with dirt. Since Keith hasn't made an effort to correct his own mistakes, I simply can not honesty recommend he or his business, "Backyard Depot" for pond or landscaping work. read more
