Pretty cool store! This was my first time in one. I e seen them before but never went in…read more They sell a lot of records, DVD's, books and more. It appears as though you can sell your items or trade them. My daughter bought two comic books. I just looked around although I saw a record I wanted. I have 5 that I've bought since being in TX. That's enough lol!

This review is mostly a copy of another review of a different location for this exact same chain…read morestore. As a bit of a lifelong closeted fantasy and pop culture fan, I love that this store has come along. I just wish it had been around when I was a teen. This store (and any location, really) is fully loaded. I'm going to let this review be taken over by a huge list here that still doesn't capture everything. - tarot and oracle decks and books - spellbooks, metaphysical, witchcraft, runes - goblets, mugs, candles, sage, palo santo, incense, wind chimes, crystals - buttons, pins, keychains, jewelry, stickers - vinyl and CDs, used and new, and players - musical instruments (ukuleles, guitars, and more) - t-shirts, hats, backpacks, and socks - pop toys, squish mallows, stuffed animals - audio books and movie DVDs - majority of the store is books of all kinds - always worth a look at the clearance section - puzzles, board games, tabletop trading card games like MTG and Pokemon - children's toys, Legos, Nerf, action figures - calendars, planners, journals, inspirational wall hangings - manga, anime, comics (DC, Marvel, and more) - video games for all systems current and past - Fred and Kikkerland knickknacks - mystery mini boxes, pouches, gaccha collectibles - antique/linen postcards - fantasy dragon and fairy statues - fandom specific collectibles (Harry Potter, Disney, and more) The store seems in constant disarray simply from the fact that there is so much variety. Literally nothing is fully alphabetized, and asking someone to look up an item you're searching for is mostly pointless beyond them being able to tell you it's most likely "somewhere" in the store. This is my biggest gripe here. However, if you're accustomed to searching through piles of random objects at places like thrift stores and secondhand stores, you may enjoy going on the hunt at this store too. They buy an array of pre-owned items here too. But worth noting that if you sell here in the morning then realize you forgot something and come back, they will not buy from you again in the same day. They lose stars for that inconvenience factor, too. I would imagine that based on need, they will buy anything that they would sell. I've personally sold Magic the Gathering cards here before. Value given in store credit is higher than cash, but be prepared to feel ripped off either way. Prices on used items are decent, but on new it can often be huge compared to buying online ($60 vs $35 in one instance). This is otherwise a great store to burn time in reading and browsing.

Barnes & Noble - Current Affairs racks

Barnes & Noble

The Barnes & Noble in Lubbock, Texas, is far superior than those in Midland and Odessa…read more It's larger. Cleaner. At the South Plains Mall. Very nice Bookseller (ya' know the person you ask help for at their separate kiosk). Friendly lone cashier. Decent women's restroom. But in saying this, I could not find a copy of Pale Fire (by Vladimir Nabokov) on October 12, 2026. Before getting in line to ask the official "Bookseller" on duty where it might be (if not near the classic section), I took to the Barnes & Noble's app to see if it was even in stock. It was not. That was quite disappointing for a classic book. It was cheaper on Amazon at that time than ordering from B&N. While I am not at all for book banning, I do wish it were faster and easier for my 13-year-old who is a fairly advanced reader to find out if the novels she were picking up had sexual content and other disturbing themes that she is certainly aware of, but just not ready to delve into. So, it takes longer than we would like, but with her or my phone she can go to websites such as https://booklooky.com/ and https://ratedreads.com/ to see if a book is on their safe list for young readers. Case in point: She browsed through several books only to return them to the Bookseller soon after gathering them to buy because she asked me about titles that I have not read. Then she picked up the Exorcist (40th Anniversary Edition). I knew that book for certain had themes like sexual content and random evilness. She didn't know this. She had an idea of what it was like, but I did not know the other young adult titles she grabbed. So then we decided we would use a couple of websites to get the results we wanted. She is getting more independent, but still needs and wants this assistance. Thus, my biggest qualm with Barnes & Noble is not that they are a multi-million dollar chain (NYSE: BNED) or that they sell banned books... it's that they do "not have a dedicated content-rating system or built-in appropriateness filter" (per Google AI because I couldn't find any methods like this on their app). My hometown does not have a single actual bookstore. Hey, that's New Mexico. So of course I will be back because my daughters and I love seeing what's new in the flesh instead of online all the time.

I wish our (Loveland, CO) B&N was this big. I stopped by the "Current Affairs" racks and was…read morefascinated to see that the shelves are stocked entirely differently than my local B&N. Yes, there is some overlap, but not much. If "what sells" is guiding the stocking of each store, it reveals that the good people of Lubbock have a lot more common sense. Let's just say that Thomas Sowell isn't a big seller where I live.
