I always had plenty of notifications and opportunities via Backstage. So glad I joined.

I am extremely dissatisfied with my recent experience. I used to be an account holder as recent as last year; however, I cancelled my account last year as I did not find it useful when I left the LA area anymore (and I barely used it when I was there - as there were other, more useful services). I accidentally renewed it the other day (Saturday at 12:28 ET) and within minutes sent a request to cancel (at 12:36 ET - 8 min later - that's the 8 min it took me to figure out how to send a cancel request). I did not just want to cancel my account; I wanted a refund - obviously. I paid $20. I felt a refund was more than fair as I clearly did not intend to use an account I had for 8 min. I explained all this and, still, they denied me a refund. Needless to say, I am extremely disappointed in this "customer service" or lack thereof. I have also been extremely dissatisfied with the quality of service vs. the cost in the past. It should not cost $20/month or anything near that for access to basic auditions, many of which can be found FREE elsewhere (many are student productions or otherwise publicly listed castings), or for a much better deal on Actors Access, etc. It's hard to support something that charges so much when castings can, again, be found for free or somewhere else for significantly cheaper - it's somewhat scammy. I will not ever use this service again. It honestly was RARELY useful when I had it while living in LA. I would use Actors Access instead if you're looking for something comparable (though far superior). read more

This is actually my second email disputing the practices of this company. Upon submitting hard earned money from my bank account to establish a profile for $19.99. I was shocked to see, after posting my creative information for casting, that there were additional charges in the amount of $34.95 just to post a job. An opportunity for aspiring actors. I disputed this. Afterwards, I thought to disregard the first dispute. And post the job by forwarding my payment, drivers license, and bank information. (Because I have a deadline) Upon doing this. Backstage has decided TO NOT approve my status die to a demand for more identification. So basically, I've been screwed out of a total of $55.00. No casting posted. No feedback from the company. I'm furious. And I promise to pursue legal actions against this company for it's fraudulent and discriminative practices against independent filmmakers. I'm requesting a full refund. I DO NOT HAVE 7 days to wait to film a production with a stiff deadline. Return my money please. read more

So much work available if you're technically savvy and have good recording and camera equipment for online auditions during this quarantine period. Backstage has an excellent notification system which tells you within a few hours if someone is interested in you applying for a role. I wish they had a better search bar for incoming jobs, to pick back up on a possibility I've viewed and want to look at again. Putting the title of the film opportunity isn't found readily, so be sure to mark as a favorite when you want to revisit, otherwise there are hundreds of submissions to wade through. read more

So we went to one class, did nothing for us. They snuck in an auto-renew on the credit card. I called the DAY I got the statement and they said SORRY you needed to call within 10 days (of course planned perfectly by them since the statement in monthly and didn't even show up within 10 days of the charge.) Pretty much just an unethical company that preys on people assuming they wont read fine print. read more

I am a full time actor and performer with approx. 19 years of experience. Signing up for Backstage last year was one of my first times trying a "paid" site. After a full year of applying for jobs via Backstage, I can honestly say I did not get booked for a single one. A few weeks ago I was checking my monthly credit card statement and noticed a charge from Backstage for $150! I was very surprised and called and emailed them immediately. I did not know I was automatically set up for "auto renew". Ok, I get it.... a lot of companies do this sort of thing. I don't agree with it, but it is what it is... They told me I had 10 days to cancel and that the 10 days was up. They NEVER sent a single email, txt, mail, etc. receipt after charging my card, so there was no way (until getting my cc statement) that I could have possibly known! I kindly explained that multiple times and gave them every single opportunity to do the right thing. The customer service manager, Richard Burridge, was dismissive and said I had logged into the account after the renewal. Of course I did! First off, I was looking for their contact info to cancel, and secondly, I thought it was still my first year and did not know they had charged my card again! I kindly explained that I did not get any value the first year, so I would never have renewed, and that if they would have sent me any kind of receipt at all I could have easily called within the "10 day" period. Again, I was extremely kind in my communication to Richard and gave him EVERY opportunity to make things right. I'm sure I'm not the first or last person this will happen to, but if my honest review can help a fellow actor, I hope it does! Beware of these dishonest business practices! read more

"Backstage Casting" has really helped me launch my career as an actor. I tried a few other services, but I just found myself paying fees with no results! Not sure why people call it a scam! It's a service and when you AGREE to a monthly subscription which they require so you can submit as many times as you like.. it's a good deal!!It will pay for itself with just one job that pays over $150.00. And they allow an array of profile assets to use to submit! That exposure to casting directors is valuable! I do wish more Union Work was posted but that is down in my area bc everyone uses non-union actors! As far as customer service.. I believe they are timely and sincere helping you HOWEVER my experience recently with a chat was not so understanding of my missing a rejoin deadline to save 50 dollars.. she was NOT sympathetic to my reason.. and I have been a paying customer.. she callously said would a store extend you a day late?? I said, there is always a manager with DISCRETION who can extend grace.. but she was rigidly forceful in her stance instead of even saying "Im sorry for your inconvenience... let me see what I can do... now that kind of reply is CUSTOMER SERVICE.. she was not budging..also to message better simply tell your director to text you.. the mail & reply process is lengthy!! read more

Backstage is an excellent platform for actors and has a significant volume of opportunities in hubs all around the nation. There are a number of unpaid casting calls, like for student films and other passion projects, but that makes it a great place for nascent or returning actors to hone their chops, get reel material, and gain valuable on-set experience. There is also a decent number of paid casting calls and some SAG-AFTRA opportunities. The system has a few quirks but overall is user-friendly. I'd recommend Backstage to any actor seeking more opportunities and wanting, willing, and able to pursue casting calls directly. read more

I was double-charged for my yearlong subscription, and contacted both Backstage and my bank to make note of the double charge. Because i dared to contact both parties on the issue, Backstage froze access to my account. I requested a refund from them, and it never was credited back to my account, so my bank issued me a conditional credit. When I inquired about the refund, I received condescending emails where the representative spoke to me in a tone more befitting a scammer than a valued customer. Errors happen, but the manner in which the problem was handled is unacceptable. read more

I appreciate Backstage as a platform for artists seeking work in the industry and promoting optimism of works done; they have their own reward. However, I believe it's not really getting me ahead. I have not had more than 2 responses from those posting auditions. I find that not credible. Nevertheless, at the same time, I understand Backstage can have little or no influence on those posting their auditions, but my misfortune does not discredit Backstage's efforts. read more

These guys are very sneaky! Steer clear of this one!! I sent a request to cancel our subscription in March'18. I did not receive an email receipt or any type of confirmation. My fault for not following up! Fast forward to this week I noticed I was still getting charged, so of course I attempt to cancel again today. I sent the same type cancellation request as the site indicated me to do so & again no receipt of an email, no email confirmation was sent either. After I'd sent the email it said they would confirm with-in 2 hours of email, so I waited 7 hours and nothing. Well, I logged back in and find a live chat option where I begin to communicate with someone Live (Ben). I tell him I have tried twice to cancel my account & have been being charged for months when I thought it had canceled. I did not tell him when those requests were made because I wanted to see if he would find any and he informed that "I don't see any prior requests from you to cancel" I said you mean you did not receive the one from this morning either and that is when he backtracked. He replied with an "oh yes I see that one", how convenient that he then saw the one from this morning and not the previous one. He refused to issue any type of credit even after that. This company runs a VERY SHADY BUSINESS. We really didn't get anything out of the service anyways. They ran a quick one on me. read more
