My son has been struggling with math. I decided to try back to basics and I'm very glad I did. My son has only been here for two weeks and I've noticed he is gaining confidence he didn't have. He is finally getting math! He said Barbara explains it in a way he understands. She teaches it better than his teacher. He's actually excited and told me he likes going to back to basics. my son (age 5) had a real problem with his hand writing, and to be perfectly honest i had a bit of a problem with that as well when i was a little boy. so i knew that i needed help from a professional. my first inkling was to get a one on one tutor at home, but I found out that one-of my son's problems is a lack of attention. A home tutor will exacerbate the problem, theres way to much distractions for my son, his room is full if toys his younger brother if he see his older brother will inevitably find ways to rip his attention away from his learning. The answer to the problem is that he needs an environment indicative to learning, some place similar yo his classes but a but different. a different environment filled with kids concentrating on learning. By having the setting change and faces of his teachers change he will not feel the study fatigue. So I knew what I was looking for I just need to find a place that had a good reputation. I have nothing but great things to say about Back to Basics. My son was struggling with math in 8th grade this past year. Apparently (and unfortunately), I no longer know how to do the math being taught. I would end up confusing my son more than he already was. Sadly, his school teacher wasn't a very big help either. I tried to work with her so that together we could help him, but I felt she didn't do enough to try to help and obviously she would never admit that she just wasn't doing a good job teaching her students, nor would she ever go out of her way to help them (yeah, one of those!). My son was one of many kids in her classroom who was struggling. Many parents got together and talked to her, the counselor, the principal...and nothing. They made us feel like our kids were defective, like they were the ones with the learning problem. Tutoring at the school = having the student sit at a computer 30 minutes, once a week, after school while the teacher just sat at the desk. Out of frustration and knowing my son would not get the help he needed, I started looking for a tutor outside of school. I went online and found that Back to Basics was nearby, so I gave them a call. It was the best thing I ever did! My son had a very low 'D' grade when he started Mrs. Barbara and Mrs. Stacy's tutoring program. With the help from the best tutor in the world, Ms. Brandy, he finished the school year with an 'A'!!!! The teachers and tutors at Back to Basics truly care about children and their academics. I will definitely continue to bring my son here as long as he needs the help. I very highly recommend them if your child is struggling in any grade and/or academic subject.
