I took Elite a while back for the SAT boot camp during the summer and honestly, the institute seems to be a hit or miss. Based off of my own personal experiences and my friends', our SAT results were different. Yes all of our SAT scores went up but for some it wasn't any more impressive than their diagnostic scores. For others their scores shot through the roof. I'm not the one to complain much, but honestly, it wasn't worth the money my parents graciously paid for. The only class I really learned from was Writing with Mr. Chandler. Yeah he was pretty strict and kind of intimidating, but I learned a lot from him. The rest of the classes? Eh, not so much. Critical Reading and Math were kind of a waste of time. (Math wasn't too bad honestly but it could have been executed more efficiently) After Elite was over I took my SAT, was more or less okay with my score, and decided to self-study with the official CollegeBoard book a few months later. My scores were much better after studying on my own but hey, not all study tactics work for everyone. Clearly, Elite wasn't really my thing. (Also if you gave me a test on the required 1000 vocabulary words right now I probably wouldn't get any more than 25% of the terms correct. There's a thin line between actually understanding the words and just "jumping through hoops" so you don't end up in detention.)
Oh and the environment? Ehh, the atmosphere kind of had an "us versus them" feel between the "lower" and "upper" division halves. You either chatted with a few classmates, hung out with your squad, or were a complete loner. There was no in between. In other words, the atmosphere was kind of uncomfortable but that's just my take. (Not that it matters too much really)
Also some of the classes kind of felt like prison cells. (Plus security cameras in every classroom? I mean I guess Mr. Chu has good intentions but it was a little unsettling to know we were constantly monitored)
tl;dr: Elite isn't for everyone. Yes they have promising results, but only if you're honestly dedicated to work for it. I personally had a much better SAT score with self-studying. read more
