    Skin-fade courtesy of Elson

I was a walk-in a few years back, and have been booking appointments with Elson ever since. Some of the best fades I've ever had have been from his hands. I was on the fence about growing a beard a couple years ago and Elson talked me down from cutting it all off during the growth phase. He helped shape it up to look manageable and gave me the confidence to keep growing it. He'll take good care of you. I recognize a few of the barbers from other shops I went to in Lake Mary for a decade. Though they've never cut my hair, I know they've been in the game for a while and take pride in their work. This is great place, friendly atmosphere and not intimidating. These barbers are typically engaged with the customer and not talking on their phones the entire time. A couple are bilingual in case you need to communicate in Spanish. I wish them the best, and if you want the best haircut, Back to Basics in downtown Longwood should be your next stop.

Well first off I have to say, what an amazing atmosphere to be in. From the old-school barber tools hanging on the wall, to the vintage barber chair at the front window, I fell in love with this barbershop. A gentleman by the name of Elson, offered his services to me and showed me great hospitality. I asked for a trim and a lineup and I received one of the best haircuts I've ever gotten. He offered me a hot towel shave, I was a bit skeptical at first but because of his kindness I decided to go with it. I enjoyed the razor shave and hot towel treatment. The price was affordable and the hospitality was amazing. I definitely will be returning there soon.

Terrance runs a great a little spot and if he happens to be out then Elson takes care of business as well.

My husband and I have been loyal customers of this barbershop for nearly 5 years--it's definitely…read moretime for an updated review! First things first: if you're looking for current feedback, check out their booking site "Booksy." A lot of the Yelp reviews here are outdated, and some of the barbers mentioned don't even work here anymore. Now onto the good part--THE BARBERS. We've had cuts from Luis, June, and Israel, and honestly, you can't go wrong with any of them. Every barber here is phenomenal. My husband and both of my sons (ages 5 and 2) have been getting their cuts here since the boys were a. From the moment we walk in, we're greeted with kindness and respect. The shop is clean, professional, and they treat our kids like their own. My 2-year-old is that kid. The one who screams and wiggles the whole time. But never once have they been rough, impatient, or unkind. Instead, they work with us as a team, showing patience and care until the haircut is done. That alone is priceless. Yes, you pay a little more than a bargain cut--but the quality speaks for itself. If you want cheap, go cheap. If you want precision, consistency, and a barber you can trust with your kids, this is it. We recently moved to South Florida and still make the 3-hour trip once a month just to come back here. That should tell you everything. This shop is worth every single penny. They're more than barbers at this point, they're family.

My son is severely disabled by Autism non verbal and is an imposing child at 6 feet tall and 280 lbs. Sometimes people are nervous cutting the hair of a kiddo like my son but not here. We were greeted and seated right away. Israel cut my sons hair without missing a beat! He was kind, patient and gave him the most awesome haircut my son has ever had! Even my son smiled when he saw his image in the mirror! We've been here twice now and have found our new home!! Thank you everyone for taking such good care of our boy!

Especially being a female with short hair, that likes skin fades.. You literally can walk in, get sat within a few minutes and you won't be disappointed. All the guys are super nice! I'm so glad I found this gem. If you're looking for one of the best fades, in the area. This is the spot!

Not quite sure how this shop has so many positive reviews... maybe I went on an off night…read more. I picked here because of all the good reviews and my normal barber is 45 minutes away. I called ahead asked how much for haircut and beard trim was told $33 I asked cash only or card they said both. Nothing about card fee. We will start with the Cons: There were 3 people in the shop( I assume all employees) my barber barely says a word to me except what is absolutely required to cut my hair. The other two guys are have this long drawn out conversation in Spanish so loud I can barely hear my barber. Every once in a while my barber talked in their conversation in Spanish. I am the only customer in the shop and I don't understand a word of Spanish. So this is totally rude to talk in front of someone else, especially a customer, who doesn't know the language and this wasn't a private type conversation. The conversation literally lasted the whole haircut. I asked for a skin fade 2 on top and 2 on the beard. Barber started cutting hair on top then tells me it is a 3, at this point I have said #2 on top at least 3 times. He redoes it with a 2. Thats fine easy fix. He gets his straight razor ready and starts getting to work on my neck and beard line. While he trimmed my beard to the correct width, he also gave me some of the worst razor burn I've ever had. He used some type of gel not shave cream/lather, not sure what it was. As he was trimming beard he asked if I wanted eyebrows done too. I told him sure, no mention of extra cost. Not sure if extra charge is a normal thing for this, my usual shop doesn't. Like I said he trimmed my beard width correctly, but what I didn't notice until I got home was he never even trimmed my beard's length! Also, if you don't like being blasted with a compressed air hose at full force to move the loose hair from you , be careful, it is used A LOT! After the cut he tells me it is $40! I said when I called I was told $33. Then he said $33 is beard and hair only, add 5 for brow trim( again my normal shop doesn't charge for) then for card add $2 fee. One of the guys who were speaking Spanish earlier said if you don't want to pay the fee you could use Zelle to send him the money. So I used that instead. Had I not questioned the prices I would have not been told about the Zelle use. The razor burn will go away in a day or 2. The barber just needs more practice and maybe not use that mystery gel. But I'm more angry at the bait-and-switch of the prices. When someone asks cash only or card and you say both, that is a good time to tell the customer there is a card use fee. When the barber asked about trimming my brows, that is the time to say it is additional $5. Now now for the Pros (this is short and sweet). The shop is very well lit, it is extremely clean and new looking. The chairs are comfortable. They are open late enough to go afterwork. Overall: I 9 out of 10 will not return even to try someone else. I'd rather drive 45 minutes and not get ignored the whole time and not have these hidden fees.
