I have been dealing with neck/shoulder pain for 20 years. Doctors took the usual x-rays and MRIs, found no unusual findings, then referred me out to physical therapy and massage. Helped some but did not solve the problem. Then, I had a baby in 2010 and my left shoulder was injured during my c-section. I then had worse neck pain, shoulder pain, new oneset migraines and numbness and tingling in face, hands and feet. Again, doctors said nothing was wrong, your body changes after pregnancy. After 11 years of dealing with this pain and loosing my ability to work full time, clean my house and even cook, I was finally diagnosed with Ehlers-danlos syndrome (EDS) by my hand surgeon, Dr. ERICSON. After talking to him about my neck pain (he does a whole body approach) he spoke to me about cranial cervical instability that is often seen in patients with EDS. He then referred me to Seattle Spine and Sports. They only wanted to give me injections in my neck for pain relief. I didn't want injections however, I wanted to fix the problem. So, they referred me to Dr. Schallman, a NUCCA chiropractor. This was exactly what I needed. He took a more in depth approach by taking x-rays at different cervical angles, side to side, up/ down etc. He was then able to see and measure precisely how many degrees and where my neck was displaced. After 3 sessions, I felt improvement. After 6 sessions, my migraines lessoned in number and my pain decreased. As my body adjusted to my neck being back in place, I started to feel more energy, more mental clarity and again way less pain. Now, a year later, I am completely free of pain and migraines. I am cooking more, and back to work on a regular basis. I continue to see Dr. Schallman to keep my neck in check. He has also taught me how certain movements can cause misalignment what to do to keep a healthy alignment. I would encourage anyone with neck pain to see him first. read more

This review is LONG overdue. I threw my back out about 9 months ago or so (maybe a year, I can't remember) and thought it would get better on it's own if I walked less, took over the counter pain meds, and ice/heat my back. Well, it didn't. It took me an additional full week of pain and a few days off work because I couldn't get out of bed. I reached out to co-workers and my medical provider to get recommendations. One co-worker recommended me to Dr. Schallmann when I wasn't having any back issues, after I saw how much taller and straighter she looked walking down the hall. When she saw me hobbling and struggling she recommended him to me again and I said I'd call him straight away and did. I set up a consultation with Dr. Schallman through Heather. She was nice, funny, professional and an absolutely doll. Receptionist/assistant extraordinaire and great taste in music!! She sets you at ease with her friendly greeting, smile and conversation. And might I add the cleanest desk I have EVER seen. She is on the ball! When I went to meet Dr. Schallmann, not only was I taken back by how cute he was (lucky wife!) but he too was nice, professional, funny and got me walking straighter that DAY! He did recommend about 12 or more visits since I was off kilter, which was covered under my insurance. He explained things in laymen's terms, showed me xrays to show how 'off centered' I was, gave me an actuon olan and tips. I was feeling better by the 2nd visit and by the 4th I was a whole new person! He is the magic doctor with the magic hands. It is no coincidence that his name rhymes with Shaman because that is exactly what he is. There is no back cracking involved. Just pressure points. Whatever he did helped me stand straighter, walk faster, heal quicker and sleep better! If you are looking for a chiropractor, notice you are walking with a limp, unevenly or just feeling out of whack, Dr. Shaman....er. Schallman is the hands to be under. Dr. MAGIC HANDS is THE person you want to see. STAT!! Oh and did i mention the recliner in the back room with the massage chairs. It takes pressure off your back and you are in it for 10 minutes, but it is so relaxing that you can easily fall asleep in it (yup I sure did and drooled as well). Wish i had one of them at home. My neck will often get super tight, so much so that it's hard to drive. Most chiropractors I've seen take ages to address this. Dr Schallman's method has me right as rain in one visit. I came to Dr. Traci completely unaware of the benefits of chiropractic care. I was told several times I was out of alignment by various screenings and came to see for sure. Boy was I in for a transformation! After treatment, I've realized how much discomfort I was in from sitting in a desk all day in my lower back and hip flexors. I notice I don't have to shift around every few minutes. I can sit in a meeting for hours and hours on end without getting uncomfortable and having to stretch. It's awesome and makes me a more effective employee. I also noticed it's much easier for me to run now, even on pavement. I came to Dr. Schallmann as a referral from my TMJ doctor. I'd been having extreme jaw, neck and back pain for nearly 6 months. I have seen Dr. Schallmann for only a few weeks now and I am completely amazed at how much better I feel! I used to have level 7-8 pain all the time and even after his first treatment I immediately began feeling relief from that constant aching. No joke! My neck was severely injured from Crossfit class in Seattle last July. Immediately after the injury, I was told by my Spine and Sports Medicine doctor that there was nothing he could do. My neck was bent in the other direction. He didn't recommend surgery or going to a chiropractor. He did suggest physical therapy for the next 3 months. I continued PT for an additional 3 months and still no improvement. Everyday I had to deal with sharp neck pain, nausea, dizziness, and overall exhaustion. Dr. Shallman is an incredibly smart ad caring chiropractor. I was referred to him by my dentist to help with my TMJ symptoms. I had been seeing a traditional chiropractor for years and was unfamiliar with the NUCCA technique. Dr. Shallman spent a great deal of time explaining the technique and how it works. He showed me exactly how he works up a treatment plan by reviewing my xrays, measurements, and weight balance. Dr. Shallmann practices as an NUCCA chiropractor, which I was not familiar with but I was referred to him by a coworker. I have been treated by several different chiropractors over the years, but had not been treated for at least a year. In January 2013 I was experiencing severe right arm, shoulder, and upper back pain and needed an adjustment ASAP (I thought). Dr. Shallmann did the initial visit with me while I was in severe pain, and honestly I thought I just needed a "tweak" and then I could go on my merry way. I went through the xrays and the measurements and found out I was 20 pounds heavier on one side than the other - very out of balance. They had explained on the phone that I would not be treated until the second visit, and were able to schedule it for the next day. The actual adjustment was so gentle I could hardly believe anything was done. When I stood up, the severe pain was almost immediately gone and I could feel my blood literally rushing through the parts of my body that had been hurting. I went back for treatments twice a week for a month, and am now going back monthly. So far the adjustments are holding well. Here are the benefits I have experienced: - No more neck or back pain - No more headaches - Increased all-around mobility - Lower blood pressure (I know, right?) - Better sleep - Overall better mood (amazing how grumpy back pain and lack of sleep makes you!) I work as a pre schoolteacher and most of my day I am either kneeling to be at the eye level of the child, or am sitting on the floor working with the child. My knees, legs and back always ached, and it had become unbearable for me to squat or kneel. I started seeing Dr. Shallman about 8 months ago. I have seen chiropractors for years with varying results. I was seeing another chiropractor yet was still having intense lower back pain. My personal trainer suggested I find a NUCCA chiropractor. I was very active ten years ago. I danced ballet and practiced martial arts. But something was weird going on, I felt off balance while I was dancing. I felt as if I was tipping forward momentarily. I went to Dr. Shallman for some neck and back pain. He had great reviews on Yelp - and was one of the few Dr. that work on Thursdays. We just moved to the area and I hadn't seen my chiro for 6 weeks. I'm very active and have a 35lb toddler - so I usually need an adjustement every so often. Dr. Shallman was very nice and did a thorough examination. He said after 1/2 hr that he doesn't do an adjustment until the next visit. THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO KNOW WHEN I MADE THE APPOINTMENT as I would have never wasted my time. Then he took xrays and proceeded to freak me out about how messed up my neck is - bone spurs, compressed disks and general degeneration that he wouldn't be able to address. When I went to schedue my follow-on (which I desperately needed to be ASAP as I had been losing sleep due to the discomfort) the soonest he could see me was 5 days later.
