Great BBQ, AMAZING banana pudding, incredible happy service, and good ambiance. Couldn't ask for anything else!

I ordered the sliced brisket and the tri-tip special. Both were terrific - you can taste influence from both Texas and KC in the flavor. Got their spicy sauce to try, which was solid - a nice cross of sweet, spicy, and that vinegar bite at the end. I also got the zucchini salad - a delicious combo of sliced zucchini, tomato chunks, (I think) sweet onion, and fresh parm, with that vinegar bite at the end to balance all the flavor. Got those who need the gluten-free option, all of their meats are safe. Service is terrific. Phil and the crew are extremely helpful and kind. The restaurant itself is definitely a classy take on the traditional KC or Texas BBQ joint. I like the location, too - pretty convenient to get to and park at. As an eighth generation taxes, girl, my standards for barbecue are pretty high. I rarely eat barbecue out of state besides a certain establishment in downtown Memphis. But I'm so glad I took the risk and stopped into back home. On our way back home. The portions were generous the sides left me, wondering how could I re-create them at home. The ribs were exquisite, the cream, corn and cabbage should not even be considered vegetables! They tasted of all kinds of yummy goodness. My visit today. I ordered three plates for myself, ribs, brisket, green beans, and dirty rice--hoping for a great meal, but was very disappointed with the quality. Across the board, everything lacked basic seasoning and felt very bland. The brisket was mostly fat, the ribs were so overcooked they were completely mushy, and the green beans were strangely sweet. The dirty rice also lacked depth of flavor. Given the quality of the meal, this was unfortunately my first and last time eating at Back Home BBQ. If I could give 4.5 stars, I would. I take BBQ serious and have gone out of my way to travel to all the BBQ states and try all of the better known establishments. With that said, I have a very high standard in which I rate a place. Let's start with the highlight, the meats. I ordered the ribs, brisket and turkey. All three were perfectly seasoned and cooked. The ribs were super tender. The brisket had great smoke rings and packed juicy well seasoned punch. The Turkey, turkey is was very moist and again, tasted great. Great smoke flavor on all three. Now to the part that left me wanting more. The Sides.....I usually order potato salad and beans, but I went with Brunswick stew and chili. The stew looked very promising, but it ended tasting bland. The chili, although not bland was fairly boring. Now, I would not be surprised one bit if people read this and stay that they love both. So I saw this place on Instagram a few months back and have been plotting my visit ever since. I tried to order as much as possible on a budget! I'm pretty sure I blew that budget, but I had meals for three days which worked out even better. Pork belly bites, they had great flavor and were tender. How can you go wrong with big chunks of bacon! Even reheated in the air fryer they were good. Brisket very tender not as fatty as I had hoped. But it just depends on where they are at on the brisket when cutting. Great smokiness, good flavor, and a good bark. Did not reheat as well due to the limited amount of fat. Texas Twinkies. Probably my favorite item on the plate. Who doesn't like bacon, cheese, jalapeños, and pulled pork. Tasted great there, and reheated well in the air fryer. Jalapeño cheddar sausage, this item was probably my least favorite unfortunately. Don't give me wrong. It was good, but I've had way better. Would I get it again yes probably. Coleslaw was great, had a lot of carrot in it and I couldn't tell if that was Apple or not but they used it. It was a different flavor, which was great. It's always good to try. New twist on coleslaw. Smoked sausage and cabbage. The best side I have. I was shockingly surprised at the tenderness of the cabbage and the depth of flavor provided. Finally made the trip to Back Home BBQ. You know, talking about BBQ in the south is almost like talking about religion. It's solid, love the atmosphere, the people are friendly, and a phenomenal ventilation system. The brisket was moist and tender, their pulled pork needed no additional sauce. That sandwich was pretty great. Both of these were winners and the best in town. What fell short for us, the potato salad needed more seasoning. The bbq beans are a ranch style, almost like chili beans. The ribs were my least favorite. It's a fattier rib which people do like. Getting to the point-average bbq. Tried the place twice to be sure. First time got a brisket sandwich and maybe I forgot to say which cut but it looks like they had the same. I asked for burnt ends as well. Bun soft plenty of sauce but meat was absolutely fat burnt ends too fatty and soft and whole sandwich salty. Corn was great but the beans were too sweet and had no bbq flavor. Second time I get brisket meal no sandwich just to try the meat and maybe it's just me buy the cut is just off. While it was very tender, it was also very dry. Not sure how that happened. Fried the rice and it was bland. But if you add some of the bbq sauce, it makes it palpable. We've been watching this spot for months waiting for it to open. Street parking only and we had no trouble at 11:45 on a Friday. You wait in line to step up to order cafeteria style. This can be slow as there is only one register but staff was very friendly. Hubby and I both ordered a meat platter with two sides. We shared so we could try more items. My platter was brisket (they slice as you wait), cheesy potatoes, and dirty rice. For $20, you get two decent slices of brisket and a scoop of the sides. You can choose between a mustard -based sauce or traditional. The brisket and cheesy potatoes were ok but the dirty rice was outstanding. Full of meat and topped with a burnt end. Hubby's platter was the original sausage, cowboy beans, and Mac n cheese. The sausage was good with a nice snap. The Mac n cheese was forgettable but the beans were very good with some heat. Two platters plus one drink (and one water) was $48.00 with tip. I'm not sure how I think the pricing will hold up in a market with a lot of great BBQ options but I wish them luck. Would I go back? Im use to bbq where the taste is paramount not the spice. EVERYTHING on this plate was spicy. No relief. The pork belly "bites" were huge , the bean look awesome but had no flavor just this sudden heat up. I went to the potato salad for relief , nope jalapeños. Huh? Jalapenos but no salt? One of the best new BBQ restaurants in Arkansas. The service is good, not great, but getting there. It is only because the place is so new that I say this. Everyone there is super friendly and works really hard. They are still developing their groove as a team but they are definitely getting better each time I go. The atmosphere is fantastic! The owners have really done a great job creating a open, clean, friendly environment and the bonus is, you can look into the pit room itself and see the pit where the magic happens. The food is incredible as well. I will start with the sides. This restaurant has the most incredible, unique sides I have ever seen at a BBQ joint. The cabbage and sausage, the creamed corn, the macaroni and cheese, and the cowboy baked beans are all so good. It is hard to pick which two you want. The greenbeans here are also most excellent. My favorite meat items include the smoked turkey, the burnt ends, and last but not life, the beef brisket. As brisket goes, there is none better in Arkansas. That is not just an opinion. Went in when it wasn't too busy. This place rivals Wright's BBQ. The meat is sliced in front of you at the counter, and you pay by the lb for most items. But wow did we have good timing because shortly after we ordered, two items were marked sold out!
