Last Saturday my Brother got married and had his reception at this establishment. To all pondering using this couples services PLEASE RECONSIDER! Never in my life have I met such an inconsiderate couple! They were as nice as could be in the beginning and even gave my brother and his new wife dance lessons prior to the wedding. However, as soon as they got paid for their upcoming services their attitudes flipped 180 degrees. The morning of the wedding I showed up at this place to help prepare for the afternoon's events. I had prepared a slideshow for the wedding and wanted to see if it would work on their projector (If not I could go home and make adjustments). As soon as I walked into the building I was met by an extremely negative and hostile attitude from the owner, Chuck. As soon as I asked him to try the slideshow on his projector he started screaming "Do you not think I have a million things to do today!?!". He told me I "deserved to be lectured for my interference". All of a sudden what started as one of the best mornings of my life turned into and all-out war with these people to get the wedding to start as planned. After yelling at me for a while he finally tried the slideshow (he just had to push play). However, as soon as I walked out the door he locked it behind me and refused to let anybody in. I was the first to arrive at 10am. We had people coming to help set-up chairs, decorate, arrange flowers, and drop off the wedding cake. My brother (the groom) who arrived around 11am spoke to the owner when he arrived. The owner immediately started yelling at him saying that he was owed 50 measly dollars because I showed up a little early to test the slideshow and that was the reason he was acting the way he was. My father caught wind of this and immediately threw 100 dollars at the man and told him he needed to calm down and show some respect on my brother's big day. The owner then started threatening to shut the entire wedding down because my father had raised his voice at him. He even threatened to call the cops!! The owner Chuck and his wife refused to let anyone into his building until 1:30pm... At which time we had to rush to decorate and then make our way back to my home to get dressed for the wedding at 4pm. Everything seemed to quiet down until the actual event took place. First of all, during the actual ceremony the dance studio's sound system decided to stop working. We had someone come to sing for the wedding and in the middle of their performance the speakers started popping and screaming. After fighting for about 30 seconds the woman singing just had to drop the microphone and perform on her own. The rest of the ceremony also continued without any sound system. When you're entertaining a crowd of 175 it is normally good if they can hear what the pastor is saying... To make matters worse, when the speakers were working the owner could not seem to time the music correctly. The night before at the reception he had "things to do" so he was not there to see when he needed to change the music (grrr!!). Next, after the ceremony was over we had pictures taken of the bridal party. For one of the pictures my brother and his wife each had a glass of champagne. The owner saw this and proceeded to pull me to the side and start yelling that no alcohol is allowed outside and if it continued he would shut down the reception! Holy shit man! Nobody is even drinking... what is the big deal? To make an even longer story short, we ended up fighting the owners tooth and nail all day until the wedding was finally over. I have never met people so irrational in my life. They showed no sense of compassion, enjoyment, or that they wanted to make my brother's wedding special. I swear these people cannot be from Maine because I have never met anybody so rude in this entire state! They would greet you with the same stale, sarcastic smile you'd expect to find from a gas station attendant in Massachusetts. To make matters worse, when we returned our tuxedos we got into a conversation with the owner of the suit shop. He told me that he has heard similar stories from people who have gotten married at the Back Door Dance Studio! He told us that if he had known we were planning the wedding there he would have suggested we do it elsewhere... I've never written a bad review for a company in my life, but I swear I'm going to make it known what kind of bastards these people are so nobody has to endure the same hell we had to on what should have been my brother's best day ever. Thanks for nothing Back Door Dance Studio! I guess your name says it all!!! read more
