The garden surrounding the hotel are well care for. A nice splash of colors for photos. Lots of good seating to enjoy the view. The downstairs rooms have a little patio with chairs. The upper room seem larger but no patios. The furnishings and bathroom set up are from the past decade, but the room was clean and welcoming. Don't forget to go to the wine and snack gathering from 4-6 pm. A nice way to start the evening. We stayed in room 6. If you are in the bottom floor you can hear a lot of footsteps from above. I used to love this place but it's gone downhill. They used to give you vouchers to use at their coffee shop but they decided to take those away and not give us anything. Very disappointing because we loved that perk. Also, it seems like they don't clean the rooms at all. The bathroom floor had black hairs all over it and all over in the shower too. The towels were covered in black hairs also. The tissue box looked like the tissues had been used and then shoved back in the box. The coffee machine in the room was very dirty and the coffee cups were dirty and were sticky on the inside. It was disgusting. read more

They got rid of the food voucher for the little coffee place. The room had black hair everywhere! It was all in the shower all over the floors just not clean the town had stains on them. The coffee maker when we tried to make tea the water came out dark brown like it was never cleane. What a GEM!!! Stayed here one night and felt like we were in Paradise. Had a patio with an oceanfront view. Close to restaurants, bars and a quaint little liquor store. Such a beautiful property, we will definitely be back to the Back Bay Inn. read more

Wow this might be my new favorite place ever. I didn't even feel like I was staying somewhere, it felt like home away from home. Everyone here is absolutely wonderful. So nice and helpful. Offer great recommendations if it's your first time visiting. Seriously this place made out weekend. You get a $7 voucher to use and the cafe each day of your stay. Trust me get a coffee from here. New owners ( purchased approx 2 ago)are starting to make changes. They have made some pet policy changes and our normal bay view rooms with private sitting area and a gorgeous view , no longer allows dogs! Only the motel style "garden rooms" with a front view of cars parking lot or a bungalow way in the back are pet friendly now. Odd, since Baywood is SUPER dog friendly. Also, you can no longer book a specific room on line. Let's add another step and require a phone call to see if a specific room is possible. Still an adorable spot with a nice long time staff. The area has some good restaurants all you can walk to from Baywood Park vicinity so if you travel with dog , explore the nearby lodging options that have bigger, newer,pet friendly private patio rooms. So disappointing that we have lost waking up to our patio bay view unless we leave our dog home. read more

We were warmly greeted at check-in and provided vouchers for breakfast at the Back Bay Cafe for each morning of our stay. Our spacious room, one of 23, was situated on the second floor and included a king-size bed, fireplace, refrigerator and a semi private deck overlooking the beautifully tendered gardens that were often alive with monarch butterflies and hummingbirds. The large windows to the rear of our room provided an excellent view of the bay including numerous brown and white pelicans, a variety of shorebirds and an osprey surveying its hunting grounds from atop a tree. Included in the room rate is a nightly help-your-self wine reception that included a trio of wines plus olives and bread sticks. One evening while enjoying a glass of wine on the patio we met the owner, Bill, who was very cordial and explained how he had just purchased an additional 100 plants to enhance the already beautiful gardens throughout the property. Breakfast at the Bay Back Cafe was very good though the number of choices are somewhat limited. There is also a fine dining restaurant, Blue Heron, on the property that has a spacious patio where we dined twice during our four night stay. In summary, we were very happy with the service, room quality and amenities. read more

Super cute inn. Beautiful location and beautiful views! I am all about location and views and this did not disappoint. We stayed in a room with a balcony overlooking the bay. It was so Beautiful!! My hubby and I enjoyed most of our time sitting there drinking coffee or wine, enjoying the weather and the amazing view. Our room was large and our bed was comfy! I read some other reviews and I agree, the walls are a little thin but I didn't feel like this was a big problem. It is a small hotel, there really isn't a lot of noise anyway. We had a nice big bed and a little sitting area in our room. We sat on the balcony most of the time. The property is beautiful and has many little places to sit and relax...find a nice view and enjoy your stay! They have a wine reception from 430-6pm where we enjoyed some local wine. They give you breakfast vouchers to the Cafe right next to the hotel. They have a great selection for you to choose from. I had the breakfast croissant and it was delicious! You also get some discounts at the restaurant next door, but we didn't go there. Both women I interacted with at the front desk were friendly. We have never heard of this town. The husband found this hotel by accident. It is quaint, peaceful and you cannot beat this view. We ended up with a room overlooking the bay and we ate every meal with this view. Not only were the rooms reasonable during the peak of summer, but they give you a $7 per person breakfast voucher for Nautical Bean which is right on their premises everyday you stay! Plus, there is a snack and wine reception every night from 4pm-6pm. You cannot beat this! The town is very small. There was a farmers market the day we arrived (Monday), but their Main Street maybe has 6 places at the most? Everyone seems to have a dog and they walk along the path by the inn, but it is not intrusive. This place makes you just sit and relax and we pretty much read, ate and looked at the bay for the 3 days we were here. The people are very friendly and apparently we hit it at a nice time because there was a lot of sun during the day. You can see people kayaking and canoeing on the bay but it was not busy! I hate to use the phrase, hidden gem, but it really is. We were here for the summer solstice and the sunset was pretty incredible! read more

Beautiful inn on the bay. They have a variety of room types including 2 free-standing back residences. We stayed in the Bungalow, which is a studio with a king bed, full bath, small sitting area and a full kitchen. A chair or small love seat in addition to the single sofa would have been convenient. The water pressure in the bathroom shower was very low, would have liked a hand-held shower head to compensate. But it was private and quiet, just right for relaxing. 5 gardens surround the inn. Breakfast vouchers included in the price. There is an adorable café on sight. Lots of restaurants within walking distance to choose from, almost all with outdoor patios. Small liquor/convenience store just down the street. Park your car and walk where you need to go. Monday Farmers Market is a must. read more

Well I want to say that the Back Bay Inn is a hidden gem! Found this thru Yelp as you will not drive by it by accident. The Inn and the grounds are absolutely beautiful and right on the Back Bay water. So serene and peaceful. Places to sit and gather all over the immaculately kept property. The room was bigger than it needed to be as was the bathroom but nothing wrong with that. Had a real fire fireplace in the room which was great since it rained one of the nights we were there. Not sure if she is the owner or not but Lori checked us in a bit early which was nice but she was just so friendly and accommodating. They had a wine and snacks hour but also have a us a bottle of wine as we checked in to get things started. The continental breakfast was unspectacular but fine and convenient. Parking is ample and near all the rooms. The pics from our room say it all. We experienced all forms of weather in 3 days and all beautiful. Even saw some bald eagles over the back bay near dusk. Very cool. Will be back for sure! Good restaurants within 100 yards. read more

Our door opened to the beautiful bay, the fog, and Montana de Oro in the distance. Go for a walk and enjoy the breeze. The staff is amazing. So nice, friendly, and accommodating. We were there three nights and there were only three choices - all the same - each day. Huge breakfast burrito, scramble or waffle. There were nice choices as to what to have in the burrito/scramble. My thought was three days the same??? Nothing healthy, I have a high blood pressure and a cardiac condition so a healthy meal would have been appreciated. The wine happy hour had only olives and peanut butter pretzels to go with the wine. Some crackers or other snacks would have been appreciated. read more

The room itself was five-star but my overall experience was one-star. A quick summation: do not stay here unless you insist upon a second floor room. Located off the beaten trail in Baywood Park, this is a good choice if you are looking for an affordable and quietly quaint place to stay near San Luis Obispo or Morro Bay. It best serves two people per room and is geared for adults rather than families. The Inn is located on the bay and offers free breakfasts and a nightly wine reception to those who are staying with them. We booked ourselves for a multiple day stay. When I first entered the room the first thing I noticed was how nice it smelled; I think they must have given it the royal Fabreeze treatment. Though small, the room was very clean and comfortable with a king bed, fridge, television and amenities such as robes, coffee maker and the usual shampoos and lotions. The view from either the room or the door-front patio was very beautiful especially for enjoying a sunset over the bay. Unfortunately we spent minimal time in the room because the noise made us miserable. Yes, the walls are quite thin but... BAM! CLUNK! STOMP! Apparently there were hippos wearing cement shoes walking in the room above us. The rooms are not very large - how could they possibly be constantly pacing back and forth? I am not exaggerating when I say we thought the plaster on our ceiling was going to crumble down upon us. The unceasing pounding made it unbearable to remain in our room so we would leave as soon as possible in the morning (they awoke at 6:30am and we at 6:31) and would return after their 10pm bedtime. Such a shame we were not able to enjoy this place as we should have. We might as well have stayed in a hostel. The irony is we initially had a second floor room but were "upgraded" to this room when the people who originally had the room asked to change and took ours. I wonder why? While I won't return I can still comfortably recommend this place as long as you absolutely insist on a second floor room. read more

My husband and I discovered this gem a few years ago. We absolutely love it! It's close to home (about 4 hours from L.A.), yet far enough away from home. This place is a quaint, secluded little place that offers tranquility. We stayed in room 14, which is upstairs. It's a corner unit that is very spacious. The bed was very comfortable, warm, and cozy, and the [illows are soft and fluffy. The furniture was a bit out-dated, but still comfortable. It was a little chilly the week we were there, May 8th, but the electric fireplace provided just the right amount of warmth. The bathroom is large, and kept the small refrigerator and coffee pot. We've stayed in ground floor units, and the other reviewers are right, you can hear every step of the person walking on the second floor. Unfortunately, the insulation between the floors is weak. I found myself kind of tip-toeing in my upstairs room, because I didn't want the occupants below me to think I was a hippo. Lol. Sue, is at the reception desk in the afternoons, and is nice and was helpful. There's another woman there in the mornings, I don't remember her name, but she was nice also. If you want to go hiking, ask her. She's very knowledgeable with the area and trails. This place doesn't have room service, it doesn't have a bellman, it doesn't have an elevator, it doesn't have a gym, and you can't check out through the tv set. My husband found this cute, quaint little bed and breakfast for a Valentine's Day weekend get away. I'm so glad he did! The whole Inn is situated on the bay in Los Osos and it's absolutely stunning! It's got three different restaurants on the property to choose from but of course you can go elsewhere as well. As for the room, we ended up staying in a little two bedroom cottage type room and it's so adorable! It looks to have been recently renovated and takes a new "farmhouse" style. That appeals to me in particular due to my unhealthy love for the Gaines family. ANYWAYS... The service of any employee and the cleanliness of the Inn grounds are spectacular. If you like a cozy place that gives you a "home away from home" type of feeling, this place is it. We are so thrilled with the Inn and we will definitely be returning. read more

We were looking for a hotel that wasn't in the middle of the relative hustle and bustle of SLO, and had a nice view, and boy did we find it and more! It's a bit on the pricier side in peak season, but it was well worth it! Our room had a view on the bay and had a nice little fire place to keep us warm on a rainy weekend. The service was definitely the best part! We arrived just before 9pm and weren't sure if we'd make it before the front desk closed. They were so sweet and turned on the light and the fireplace in our room for us since it was a rainy and cold night. It made an unpleasantly rainy drive that much nicer. The Inn is pretty small in terms of the number of rooms, so it was quiet and relaxed. Loved all the plants on the second floor where we stayed - there was even a nice swing chair to look at the bay from next to our room. Wish we'd gotten a chance to stay on a sunnier weekend, the view from our room would have been even nicer, and it would have been fun to lounge in the chairs in the back. Back Bay Inn just got all of the little details right - from turning on the light for us before arrival, to the cute little soaps and makeup removal wipes in our bathroom. I'd definitely come back again! Also, loved that they give you complimentary breakfast at the Back Bay Cafe next door! Super cute little cafe where the locals come, overlooking the bay. It isn't just the standard eggs and toast, but you can order "real" brunch food like frittatas, breakfast burritos, etc. And you can sit outside and enjoy the view while you wait. A nice little gem in Los Osos. Fifteen-twenty minutes from SLO, beautiful view of the bay, quiet yet vibrant little town where the locals come out to hang out at their cafe. Back Bay Inn was the best surprise find. I cannot say enough nice things about the Inn and Katie. We chose a upstairs room with balcony (#208) and it was large & roomy and very clean. Katie put out wine, breadsticks & olives every night for the guests and every morning you get free pastries/muffins at the Inn or you can go to the cafe next door for free breakfast. We had the breakfast burritos which were actually large enough that we could have shared and would have if we had a way to warm up one for the next day but theres no microwave in the room, which would have been great to have but it's not a deal breaker. It's not someplace that I would vacation with kids, because theres really not anything for kids to do in Los Osos but if you're wanting somewhere to relax then this is the place! It's only a short drive to Morro Bay & Cayucos for more restaurant options and site seeing. By the way you can't beat the price for these accommodations anywhere at the coast and have it be such a nice place as this. read more

Always good with the best rooms being 208 and 209. Both rooms have balconies on the 2nd floor overlooking the bay. We wanted a restful getaway from COVID and stayed 3 days. We were not disappointed. The Inn is up to date on safety measures and was half filled. We picked up breakfast one morning from a nearby restaurant and had a continental breakfast pickup from the break room for the other two as part of the room rate. We hiked the Bay shoreline, the local neighborhood and the Elfin Forest. The hotel grounds are beautiful to enjoy happy hour. read more

Terrific place if you are looking for a peaceful getaway. It is beautiful, quiet, and relaxing. My husband and I have stayed here twice over the last few years when we just want to slow down and relax. While not fancy, the rooms are spacious and have a nice sitting area where you can sit and enjoy the bay; they also have several seating areas outside that provide nice views. We stay on the second floor so we have a nice view of the water, but the lower rooms open onto a lovely garden area. You can take a look at the rooms online to see what you would prefer. The beds are comfortable, the grounds are lovely and the staff friendly. You get vouchers for breakfast at the Back Bay Cafe (across the parking lot) and the food is delicious! There is a small-town feel to the entire area that is very welcoming. I don't know why anyone would chose to stay in Moro Bay when such a quiet and beautiful option is nearby. Bottom Line: A beautiful place to stay Wife is about 7 months preggo and was in need of some relaxation after chasing around our three year old, so I booked us a couple nights here. We got a beautiful room upstairs with a few of the bay and proceeded to relax. The service was fantastic as well. While checking in, I noticed that they had wine and snacks set out. I poured myself a half glass of red as that was all that was left. As we were checking in, the nice lady behind the counter asked me if that was the last of the red wine. She ran into the back and uncorked a new bottle and poured me a huge glass! That was a really nice touch - she obviously didn't have to do that but she did and having a nice 'wine glow' right out of the car after a two hour drive is awesome. There is a loveseat/swing outside out door that we relaxed in one morning and savored our coffee for once in a few years. Actually, I dont drink coffee and wife obvious cant... so it was actually Tea but it sounds better if you say coffee, right? Doesn't tea sound a little pretentious? Hmmm, well anyways. With the reservation we got breakfast coupons for the cafe across the way, which was nice and you can read my review for that as well on their yelp page. There are a bunch of other places to eat within a few blocks walking distance, and there is a TON to see if you just want to walk around a little which I always do. There's lots to take pics of.... its just a great spot, over all. We really enjoyed our stay. read more

We definitely enjoyed our stay at the friendly little Back Bay Inn. They have about 12 or so rooms and all have either a balcony/lanai or a fireplace. We stayed in a second floor room (9) with a balcony overlooking the water. Well, it was over looking the water in the morning but the afternoon we arrived it was overlooking mud as it was low tide. (see my pics) It was pretty surreal to look out and see boats just sitting atop mud. But, in the morning the tide had rolled in and yes there was water. And, the view was really lovely and peaceful. We we able to lay in bed and watch the water. We then went down to the "Gathering Room" and grabbed some coffee to sip on our balcony as we had done with the wine & cheese they serve in the evenings. We found the Inn very charming indeed. Also, there are pictures of all of the rooms on line so you can pick and choose as we did. read more
