Small Vineyard with only 10 acres.
    Stephanie S.

A small gem! Back 10 wasn't even on my radar, but the 2 wineries that I stopped at prior to this place recommended that we check this place out! We were going to skip it, but I ended up going in the wrong direction which lead us here. Back 10 is only 10 acres and this is considered "small". Sign outside advertises their $5 tasting and it is totally worth it! I think it was the owner and he was very welcoming. All of the wines had a beautiful bouquet, so definitely smell them before your sip! Although tasting is cheap, bottles avg $30 as they produce limited quantities. Wines are NOT available at LCBO, so pick something up if you really like it!

Winery building wasn't fancy. I was actually hesitated to get in. I didn't know what to expect. When I opened the door, owner greeted me with smile. Modern and elegant tasting room was there. Some part of tasting room set up like a nice cafe in France. It was pretty. They had 4 kinds of wines when we visited. They are small winery so makes small batches only. I didn't need to open the long wine menu and pick. Started with Resling, Chardonnay, pino noir and Cabaret Franc. The Big Reach Resling was very refreshing. Semi-dry. Start from scratch Chardonnay was very interesting. It has buttery long finish after oaky note. It's fermented with wild yeast, aged in Canadian oak. Blood sweat & years Pinot noir was smooth. It was gold medal winner at international Pinot challenge. My husband loved it and purchased a magnum which they only bottled 18 of them. It was signed and numbered by winemaker. They Sell half of their grapes to Featherstone winery and use the other half for their own production. All handpicked grapes, small batch boutique wines. Now this winery is in my new favorite list when I re-visit this area. I want to experience their new wines since they will just make small batch seasonally. And I hope others will love their wines too.

Back Ten Cellars is a small ten acre vineyard and winery located along King St. In the heart of wine country just below the Beamsville Bench. It is less than a km from Malivoire, which is one of my favourites. For a few years the vineyard has been producing grapes for Featherstone Winery, but has recently started bottling its own Riesling, Rosé and Cab Franc. The space is intimate, yet inviting. You sit at high/low tables instead of standing at a counter. The wines are all pretty good, though I found the Riesling most to my liking. The husband and wife team that run this winery are very friendly and eager to talk about the wines. If you are interested in trying something knew that you definitely won't find at the LCBO,this is a nice find.

What a gem, literally! This is a small boutique winery. Back 10 is a Husband and Wife labor of love. It's called back ten because it took ten years to get the grapes up and also they only have ten acres of land. We had wanted to come here for a long time and very glad we did! The tasting room is a converted house. Do yourself a favor beforehand and check their social media about what's Wine's are available. When we went all reds were out as well as Chardonnay. We got to try the Sparkling, Riesling and their Rose'. The tasting is $5.00 but if you buy wines which you will that fee is waived. (They do not sell at LCBO because they are too small) With your tastings the bring out some local bread smeared with ricotta and topped with pesto. It's perfect to have with your flight of wines! The tasting Room is a converted home. It's modern and yet cozy. The staff member who was our wine guide so to deal was kind, friendly and very knowledgeable. Even if you know nothing about wine you can learn a lot with out feeling it's so pretentious. They also do a guided tour and lunch but must reserve that see the website for more info. I wished we got to try the reds but they will be ready September 15, 2018. The Sparkling called "Smitten" is worth the buy its bright and just full of joy, a nose of melon and pear. I could drink it all day. The Riesling was almost colorless. But had warm notes and a juicy grapefruit and apple nose and as well as taste. This was not a sweet wine to be honest. I would say try this with oysters or some hot Asian food! Last was the Rose' this had 13% alcohol for me as someone who loves a good rose I found it had a long alcoholic finish. It's nose was mouthwatering like a watermelon jolly rancher. It was good please know this but some rose's although dry do give a hint of sweetness so to speak. So I bought us a bottle of the Smitten Sparkling..we will be back soon for the reds. If your from the USA like us do not freak out about the prices they are in Canadian Dollars and it will be converted to US on your credit cards and etc. This is worth the stop, beautiful view, nice tasting room, great and knowledgeable staff and you get a nice feeling that this family is doing something they truly love and it goes into every bottle. They have a parking lot and check hours as they change in the fall. Cheers! I'll be back!

Wonderful flight of four...I loved everyone of them.

Cozy little tasting bungalow featuring super delicious wines, an extremely intelligent and friendly staff (lovely, lovely women) and you even get a complementary little bite to go along with your tasting flight. I have to say I surprised myself...or rather the wine surprised me. I have always said that I've never met a Chardonnay that I liked well Back 10 Cellars made me drink my words. Their Chardonnay is absolutely delicious...in fact out of the Reisling, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Franc that was also included with the flight, the Chardonnay was my favorite (mind blown) which is so bizarre because I usually stick with the reds. We also enjoyed a sample of the Sparkling wine which was sweet and creamy and bubbly and oh so good. I wanted to buy cases of everything but unfortunately they wouldn't have fit in my suitcase so I opted for a bottle of the sparkling wine to enjoy tonight with the hubs to celebrate his birthday and our last night in Canada before it's back to reality. If you are in the area, please support the local small businesses and make this a stop. You will not be disappointed. Cheers!

Review Highlights - Back 10 Cellars

The Riesling was a dry Alsace style - very very racy with a high-level of acidity and 9.

The staff is super knowledgable and you can tell they are passionate about their work. They have seated tastings. I have always done my tastings inside their tasting room, I am not sure it works outside. My girlfriend wanted to try some of their sparklings. After hearing in detail the explanation on what to expect with all 5 of the options, she decided she wanted to try them all. They were very accommodating with this since they usually only do a tasting of 3. Throughout our tasting the lady kept checking on us, asking if we had any questions or if we needed anything else. Some Spice Girls conversations were had and we left very happy with some bottles of French style sparklings.

I had stopped by Dillon's, and asked if…read morethey recommended any local wineries and they advised me to check out this place for good quality wines at a decent price (most bottles range from $18-35). I was so happy to discover this place! The grounds are beautifully kept with a nice garden, the vineyard, a historic house (where there is a gorgeous tasting room and boutique -- a very 'French country' vibe), and a lovely shaded patio. There is a lot of space to spread out and relax. Wine tasting is $5 (for 3 samples) or $10 (for 3 samples + cheese board). Everyone seemed to be going for the latter, which included fresh baguette with herbes de provence olive oil, a sheep's milk cheddar and a gruyere cheese. Definitely worth it! They give you a list of their wines to choose from, as well as a sheet where you can take notes. Definitely appreciated. The young woman who served us was lovely. Very warm, friendly and able to provide a lot of descriptions about the wines. From the moment you walk in the door, you feel welcome and this is a place to relax and take your time enjoying the different wines. They do a couple sparkling wines which were quite refreshing, as well as a really unique Marsanne - super light and great for summer. I will definitely return when I'm passing through the area. This has been one of my favourite wine tasting experiences in Ontario (comparing to NOTL and PEC).
