One of my absolute favorite meals I had while in Italy. Not as well known, as another reviewer…read morementioned, definitely a hidden gem. One I'm so glad my group and I stumbled upon. The family/staff that owns the market and restaurant was so sweet. We stopped by for a lunch and ordered anything they recommended. They were extremely attentive and wanted us to have the best experience. We had the Ribollita and their charcuterie board for 2. It was such a treat! I've never had Ribollita before then, but it tasted so fresh and homey. It was as if a family had invited you to their home for a meal. The eating space is a tiny, so if you find an open table definitely try to grab a bite there! The walls are also littered with post it notes from customers who have had the pleasure of eating there. Such a great eatery!

He recommended a meat and cheese board with some vino that was absolutely divine. I don't think I've ever had such a delicious and fresh off the bone charcuterie as I did today. He sat with us while we snacked sharing with us his family history and 3 generations of business, since 1924. Such a kind soul. I hope his business lasts lifetimes more. It truly is such a special place. Can't wait to get back. Highly recommend. No crowds either.

If you're spending a few days in Florence, you're going to see people walking around with these…read moreextremely attractive focaccia sandwiches everywhere. And you're going to want one. And you're going to find out that while it looks like focaccia, it's actually a close cousin, schiacciata (a little lighter and crispier, so you feel better about crushing an entire loaf with your sandwich). You can get these sandwiches all over the city. All'Antico Vinaio is the famous one (or at least it's famous to me because they've opened up in NYC and told me about how famous they are), but these days I think that just means they're the most expensive and the most ubiquitous on social media. All I know is that you can't go wrong with Pino's. I was actually full from five days of stuffing my face with pasta and steak and everything else Florence has to offer, but when my buddy handed me one of these things, you better believe I ate the whole thing. It's just a beautiful piece of schiacciata sliced in half and layered fresh, tasty treats that cannot be bad when combined. There's usually a nice spread (often pistachio or pesto or hot pepper sauce), some excellent cheese (scamorza, brie, mozzarella, etc.) and some cured meats. I'll say it again: you cannot go wrong. Just get whatever sounds good to you, and eat that sandwich in the sunshine. Life doesn't get much better than that.

Pino's was one of the spots trending on social media, so it understandably had a line out the door. That said, the queue went by pretty fast, and we were eating in no time. Pino's Sandwiches had quite the personality. It was decked out in banners and pennants of American universities. If you're from the USA, it almost felt like you were right at home. There seemed to be ample indoor seating. My husband was able to snag a table for us while I waited for our order. There was also seating outside. This was one of the few sandwich spots that offered a deli meat besides pork, which I was so thankful for. I got The Savage, which consisted of roast beef, burrata, smoked mozzarella, sun dried tomatoes, and pesto. I will go as far as saying that this was my favorite schiaciatta of all the ones I had on our Florence trip. The roast beef was really tender, and I absolutely loved the sun dried tomatoes. They weren't shriveled up like the ones we have back at home. The tomatoes were huge and burst full of flavor.

We came back to Fratellini a couple times during our trip to try different sandwiches, and every sandwich we tried was fresh and flavorful. Service was quick, and there was no line. They do offer alcoholic beverages, but their sandwiches are the star of the show!

November 9, 2024 2:30PM…read more It does appear they have two stalls on the same street that you can order from. One side seemed to have more alcohol on display and the side I was on was more sandwich focused, but I'm pretty sure you can order the same things from both windows. Initially I was going to get the 21 - Fresh Sausage and Eggplant because I'm an eggplant lover... the lady at the counter was kind enough to let me know that the fresh sausage is actually rare, uncooked sausage and gave me a small piece to try. I was getting ready to get on a train that day and didn't want something that might not sit well with me, so I moved on to number 27 spicy salami and cream cheese. My partner got the number 1, ham, cream cheese and rocket salad. Both are very good sized and oh so delicious. The line moved quickly, so many options for decision paralysis. This is the place for schiacciate Florentine as recommended from friends who used to live here. Definitely would recommend to study up their menu before coming so it's easier to pick what you want. This is more of a stall and you grab and go, we stood around the sidewalk and inhaled our sandwiches. Watch out for the pigeons getting ready to take your crumbs too, you can see them on the ledge of the building getting ready to attack. A must visit for Florence.
