The shop is nicely laid out. The displays are inviting. It is easy to find things. On my last visit, I noticed a bunch of siege engines and Da Vinci machine models on display. They were very well made and would be so fun to mess with. This store has a great selection of popular, high end toys: Playmobil, Calico Critters (I lovvvve Calico Critters), Legos, Schleich. More trendy stuff by Funko. An excellent selection of games of all types for all ages & lots of puzzles. Excellent place for stocking stuffers. However, the shop owner reached me out immediately after she noted my post. I appreciate she brought another set to my home for exchanging mine in person. This one looks better. Even I had not good shopping experience initially, now I do appreciate for her professional, prompt and thoughtful services after she noted my disappointment. Bonus points for the store with all of the "magic" tricks and gags - the fake poo was surprisingly realistic looking. Supplying many of these hobbies have been relegated to a few shelves in big-box craft shops like Michaels and Hobby Lobby in the US. Once I found Imperial Hobbies on Yelp during our vacation and it was near our hotel, I made my plans. I dropped my wife off for her spa day and this was going to be my spa day ;) The store is in a group of buildings almost at the end of the runway of Vancouver Airport (YVR). If you hang around, you'll see tons of airliners approaching for landings and roaring off on take offs. I just couldn't believe the selection of plastic models of planes, armor, cars and trucks along with complete selections of paint and finishing materials. It's these types of stores that I would spend hours in as a boy, but could only stare wide-eyed because I never had much money back then. But now as an adult with a job and disposable income, I probably would have gone broke if I didn't have to pack everything into my luggage to fly home. The favorable CAD$ to USD$ exchange rate also helped a lot in my shopping. I ended up with a couple of scale plastic model kits and a flying model rocket that are rare, out of production kits or very hard to find, even on-line.

I personally love jigsaw puzzles, and this place has an excellent selection of puzzles in every range of difficulty, from 100 pieces to 1000 pieces. Most of the manufacturers were high-end brands. Walking around, I was so impressed by the sheer selection and types of games and toys in this place. I loved how they all seems to foster the imagination and creativity, and/or were "fun educational" in nature, like really fun geocaching tools, or science kits or activity books or "fossilized poop" (I'm not kidding you. From 1000 years ago. For real!). Games and toys that make exploring and learning fun. And lots of stuffed animals, too. And advent calendars in many fun themes (including crafty advent calendars). I loved how the toys were not stereotyped or categorized by gender or age. I kept thinking, if my kids were younger, this totally would be my go-to toy store. It is perfect for any kid IMO.
