Place was empty and a little dark and dim; however, the waitress (owner?) was very nice. She was the only person in the building besides the cook. She tried to get us our things as quickly as possible. Great service. My husband got the taste of Thai- which was basically watered down curry with lots of veggies. The Thai fried rice was good - lots of flavor. However, we had left over and the next day after reheating it, it had a very sour smell to it. Pad kee mao was kinda salty and didn't have much flavor. I like fresh rice noodle for my pad kee mao, these were the dry noodles, so it wasn't the greatest. Fort Walton, blink twice if you're under duress. First it was the cigar shop with the sewer runoff way off in the distance that called themselves "water view". Then the bar who stocked themselves from the local gas station but called themselves a brewery. Then the "fresh seafood" place who was serving swai, which is only fresh if you're from Asia. And now we have Baan Thai, who comes up when you search "Asian barbecue". Outside is a large professional BBQ pit smoker. Inside is a bunch of signs for "smokehouse", "brisket", etc. There is no hint of barbecue here. Just a run of the mill Thai joint with watery curry and room temperature spring rolls. I know looks can be deceiving, buyer beware and all, but civilized parts of the world have rules against this kind of stuff. Big variety at the buffet, the signs above didn't match many of the dishes. I'm going to have to give it another try. Many items on the buffet were not very fresh, starting to dry. The pad Thai didn't taste like it should but it was on the buffet. The peanut sauce, satay was runny. the item I enjoyed the most was the Thai chicken salad, delicious! I came here for the Saturday lunch buffet and I would like to say it was super tasty. It has the usually Pad Thai, Green Curry Chicken, Red Curry Chicken, Basil Beef, and also other Thai food that isn't found at the Siam Thai buffet in Pensacola. All for the price of $9.95. It also had the Papaya salad and some beef salad. The pork was amazing as well. It had some fried ragoons that was excellent. The waiter service is awesome. And the outside path to the tiny restrooms are not elegant by any stretch, but none of that matters when you want a reliable feast. I came during lunch time with a coworker. W did the lunch buffet. With tip it came out to about $12 per person. They had penang curry, tom yum soup, chicken, pork and beef with different veggies. The selection was limited but I enjoyed it. The staff was nice. I tried this place when I first moved to the area but the owner was different. This place recently reopened and I'm not sure who owns it. Some of the food was too salty for me. The best thing is the thai noodle soup you can make at the self serve. Mediocre Thai restaurant. If you are looking for an upscale, classic Thai food, you will not find it here. Baan Thai Restaurant is still a good place to get cheap buffet style food. The waitress (which I think was the owner) was very nice and attending. The buffet is a single island buffet table with classic renditions of Thai Food. The food is definitely worth the $10 I spend, they could probably charge a dollar more to make some money. The salad bar was fresh and crisp. The cook here is awesome and the food is very similar to what you will find in Thailand. I always order to-go and the portion sizes are good. I have eaten the buffet a few times. When it gets low and it is not busy, they don't really bother to restock. If you ask for something that is empty, the cook will gladly make it for you. The key is to just ask! Don't be shy! My family and I go to the Baan Thai restaurant occasionally. The reason why I am giving it three stars is because once a tray of food becomes empty on the buffet table it does not get refilled. Anyone who goes there after trays are empty are out of luck.That is a shame since the selection is slim in comparison to other thai buffet in the local area.The last time we went we asked several times for trays to be restocked .We were told they would be and after waiting an hour we realized it wasn't going to happen. The price is too high to run a buffet with empty trays.What they do have available is very good and we like it , that is why we still go there once in awhile.The atmosphere is lovely with beautiful decorations. This restaurant has a lot of potential to be very successful but when people realize they will get a better deal with refilled trays at another thai buffet that is where they will go. read more
