I specifically chose this salon because of all the other reviews mentioning that the staff spoke English. On the day of my appointment I called to confirm and the person who answered the phone didn't speak English and was incredibly unhelpful. I kept trying to tell him my name and the time of my appointment and he kept responding that no, I didn't have appointment. After about 30 seconds, he hung up on me. I tried calling back several times but he must have taken the phone off the hook because the line was busy. At this point, I was desperate - my hair was a mess and it was a few hours to the wedding. I took a taxi over to the salon and buzzed several times to be let in. The same guy (I assume the same person who answered the phone) didn't want to let me up. I finally got into the building and made it up the salon. When I answered the door I showed him the email confirming my appointment to which he said that the stylist hadn't come in that day, I believe because she was either sick or had to go out of town (the whole conversation was him talking in Spanish and me responding in English). It was already noon and I saw when I made the appointment online that she had other people booked before me, so it wasn't like I was showing up as the first customer of the day. So despite having my contact info AND the fact that I called to confirm no one ever bothered to tell me she wasn't coming in. Plus it was like they were trying to hide because they screwed up - hanging up on me and then not letting me into the building. The whole thing was a nightmare with the worst possible timing and made me almost miss the wedding. Regardless of the language barrier it was the definition of bad customer service.

Making an appointment online was super easy and received an e-mail confirmation. Showed up day of and made my way upstairs to the salon. It was clean and intimate, everyone there was really chill and the clients all seemed to know and love their regular stylists. My stylist was Carolina. I showed her pictures and described what I wanted but ultimately just trusted her to do what she thought would look best with my face shape. She worked with such precision and in the end gave me exactly what I wanted. I couldn't be happier. Plus it was way cheaper then anything I would have paid in a West Loop Salon in Chicago. Despite our rather spotty knowledge of Spanish, the process was very smooth. We arrived at Hair Cut Day at the appointed time, and were greeted immediately by the friendly staff. My daughter went first, and she asked for a short asymmetrical cut. I went for a standard medium-length male cut. Our stylists did a fantastic job, and we looked great leaving the salon. They both took the time that they needed to attend to every detail. Now, the true measure of a hair style isn't what it looks like the day you get it; it's how it looks a few weeks later. I'm happy to report that, for both of us, the results have been amazing. It's almost as if they knew how these styles would grow out, because they've continued to look good, even four weeks later. Sleep deprived, and several coffees in, he went to work: balanced my color, blended the grey, noted the parting and how I like to wear my hair behind my ears. I wish I could fly here every month to have my hair done at Opera. Abel worked magic, advising me on how to adjust my blonde to better suit my complexion. He was so attentive to details, he also adjusted my brows to suit my gorgeous new hair. I also had my hair cut while in and just love the results. The team is fun and caring, while also being safe. Chairs were sprayed down and wiped, everyone wore gloves and masks, and they even gave me a new mask at the end of service. I am very VERY happy with my experience. Forever, if they can get away with it. The nail salon industry is rife with this, and I do my best not to support it. So FOR THAT this salon gets 5 stars! Quiet, professional, polite! The tech who did my pedicure did her level best. She did a GREAT job by EU standards, as far as I know. But it was 45 euros. Which is good to know I'm supporting a good business, but also out of my price range. I was originally going to another hair salon which I found closed and then on my way back to the…read moremetro station, i saw Wapa'm and decided to take the risk of trying out a new place without looking it up or reading reviews about it... and boy was I happy with my decision!! The service is very very good, marta there speaks english so you won't face difficulties in that department. They start of by giving a scalp massage with some nice oils, then they thoroughly wash the hair, I dunno like 2 or 3 times with several products (i think i had like twice shampoo and twice conditioner, dunno). Then a very nice and talented guy cut my hair and was asking me every step of the way before he cuts through, if its alright. So don't worry about the "hairdressers' over-cutting" syndrome. Not at wapa'm! After cutting, even though I only paid for that, they styled my hair (its curly) with lovely hair products, my hair was shining like never before! I think the products were called "Aveda", and it made my curls really nicely defined. I just loved the whole thing and won't hesitate to go there again!! But note that it was a bit pricier than usual (For all what I've described above, I paid 39 euros).
