I requested custom rolling shelves to be installed in my master bathroom and a spot on the wall to be painted over where it chipped. I was informed that it would be doable to be completed by 23 November 2024. It was understood that I paid half the estimate upfront to deposit and then pay the remainder when the work is complete. So I paid half upfront to deposit; amount was $1,860.00. On the planned completion date, I received a text message that there is a family emergency and they requested if the completion date can be pushed back to 24 November 2024. I said to that the new date is fine. And then the family emergency is extended, and extended, and extended thru Friday, 6 December 2024 and then thru Saturday, 7 December 2024. We agreed that the work will be completed firmly by no later than Sunday, 8 December 2024. By this point I have been more than reasonable and accommodating to the life situation that they are going Through. On 10 December 2024, and I verified that there has been no work done at all on the shelves or the painting job. I called, texted, and emailed the team with no response. I had discovered the nature of the emergency; so of course it's a traumatic experience. Also, at the same time, I am working in a tight budget. I cannot just throw away $1,860.00. By the end of December, the shelves and paint job were take care of by another person. On 15 January 2025, they informed me that they are taking care of the refund; first tried Zelle, then Venmo and did not work, so we agreed on a cashier's check sent to me. The cashier's check was mailed to me on 28 January 2025. And since January 28th 2025, no further updates; complete silence. I send one final message expressing my frustration and anger with the refund process on 17 February 2025; and then two days later on 19 February 2025, they finally reach back out to me ONLY after I initiated the follow up message. They tell me the refund check was mailed back to the office; this information I did not know, so at this point, I am dissatisfied more that they did not reach out back to me to close out the refund process. On 19 February 2025, they confirm with tracking number from UPS that the refund check is mailed to me to my correct mailing address. I received the package from UPS. However, upon opening the check is not in the mailer; there is only a neon green envelope with '1900.00 Refund' written on the outside. I noticed the green envelope was ripped in one corner and the mailer was also ripped in one corner. At this point, I still haven't received the refund. So, we agreed to send the check via USPS instead. We confirmed with tracking number that the check was mailed via USPS on 5 March 2025. On 14 March 2025, I received the mailer. Inside the mailer package, the check was not there. Instead, there was a Customs and Declaration Form and their business card. No refund check. At this point, we have utilized two forms of mailing technique without success. So, understandably, I asked them to provide the refund electronically either via Zelle or Venmo. I have no word of whether or when my deposit will be refunded, since that is the honest and professional thing to do. At the end of the day, it is poor customer service. I hired Will Heath of Southern Charm Inspection to visit a Wilmington home I am buying. He did the…read moreinspection May 1, 2021 and promptly sent a report. While he finds no major issues, a result that was in line with my expectations, the report provided very little value as it was mostly cut and paste with sections that informed me of what vinyl siding is made of (vinyl!) and other useless "filler." He took pictures of major house systems such as HVAC components and the water heater labels, including the images in the report. This inspector didn't bother to take down the model and serial numbers and research when they were manufactured. I've moved quite a bit as result of my work and I have probably read more than a dozen home inspectors' reports. In those reports, they have always tried to document the age of major systems--not offer an opinion but factually state the manufactured age. Will Heath didn't even try. The dishwasher and the sink disposal didn't "fails to operate as intended," according to the inspector, and I should hire a qualified repair technician. That's it. Is it leaking? Does it have power and water? Can you turn on the power? What facts can I provide to a technician when I schedule a repair? I can't even tell if I should call a plumber, electrician or appliance service tech. The Southern Charm report says that some window sashes had broken springs. How many? Which ones? The inspector didn't bother to provide those facts. I am a five-hour drive from the home I'm buying and have no idea if it's two windows or twenty that need repair. I'm buying the home from an elderly person who couldn't provide the roof age. I called him beforehand and asked him to look closely at the roof shingles. He was very pleasant and agreeable at that time. I completely understand he is unable to walk the roof but he did look at it without going up there. So, what did he see? "No obvious or observable defects," Heath writes. Hardly useful. When Will Heath heard that I was unhappy with his report, he said that my only option was to complain to the state licensure board that his work was not in compliance with their regulations. I have no doubt that it was. My stated issue with his work is that it was skin deep and didn't bother to provide complete information permitted by the state. I wasted $335 with Southern Charm and Will Heath.

We had him out several times, and he missed his promised time every single time. We had to call several times when he forgot he was supposed to be at our job. Still, once he was there, he would work diligently and make every effort to do things the right and best way, not the easiest way. He did not take shortcuts, and you want an electrician who cares about doing your wiring correctly. He also took the time to solve problems we presented that were not part of the original plan, and he added them in at a fair price. This probably explains why he was often late. It can be hard to know how long a job will take, especially when you are doing your best to do things safely and correctly and taking the time to do it right. So we were understanding about that, once at our house, he often stayed longer than scheduled to make sure we were happy and the job was done correctly. We will use him again.
