B&L Woodworking is renowned for its sheds & home outbuildings, but it wasn't for a shed that contractors & friends directed to us to B&L Woodworking in the Amish market north of Kingston. B&L also makes excellent Furniture -- with gorgeous workmanship, beautiful wood & graining that speak to you, all made to order, built to last. Customers can select & personalize the style, wood, finish, edges, & other details to their taste. In all our business with them, they lived up to their strong reputation for trustworthiness and quality. We were on a search. We wondered if together we could adapt a classic style to get a look that suggests Mid-Century Modern. We talked to Jake, B&L Woodworking's expert customer representative on site in their section of the Amish Market. Our story: We needed a new bedroom set when we moved into our new house, & we'd struck out finding anything we really liked. We'd even tried some custom woodworking artisans, only to find that explaining 'what we want' wastes their time, runs up the cost, & may not turn out to BE what we want. We learned: if we want custom, have a Design. Jake agreed to see if they could do a bed for us . Newly retired, we had the time to develop our own idea. We measured & visualized the space our bed would occupy, studied Mid-Mod beds & side-tables on the web, then took weeks to come up with a Concept & draw a Sketch, which we evaluated & simplified to cost-reduce it. It took us another month to translate our sketch into graph-paper drawings with detailed views, our very own Plan with all dimensions labeled! Jake never pressured us. He is straightforward, patient, & a good listener, easy to get along with. He is available & very responsive to phone calls & emails. He gave good us advice when we asked him a question. We gave him our design package. The team of creative craftsmen/carpenters he works with in Pennsylvania constructed our design perfectly, delivered it on time, & expertly installed it, with no extra charge. We moved on to the other items we envisioned in our bedroom set. Next-- a dresser, bed-side tables, & a wall-attached table, light wood with dark cross-sawed oak touches. Doing one item at a time gave us the added benefit of paying for each as we did it. We now have as part of our heritage a unique BR set that echoes Mid-Century Modern style with an Art Deco flair in the tables. (It's even a choice in their catalog.) More! We had 2 quite functional pieces (a desk & a small table) that we wanted to keep, rather than buy new. We weren't up for messing with refinishing. Instead, B&L made new tops for them. The greystain spalted elm we used is distinctive!! It's right in style today & gets constant compliments. Long story short, for a lot of reasons we're delighted to have found Jake & B&L Woodworking. PS -Several times when visiting Jake, just for fun, we looked at B&L's huge variety of cool gazebos & sheds. I cannot say enough about the integrity of B&L Woodworks. After 30 years of big box store screen rooms and replacements we figured with the money spent, in all that time we could have purchased a more durable outdoor bug shelter. We inquired around, made some calls, got some brochures and looked at several vendors, and decided to see what B&L had to offer. I am so happy we made that last stop I spoke with Jake about the size, the costs, the add-ons, and made several changes during our conversation, all the while Jake took it in stride and was more than happy to accommodate my wife and I. The price quoted was the final price, and for us B&L's pricing was very competitive, and actually better than some of the others as there were no additional fees. We left a small deposit, and a date was set. We were a little hesitant as the balance had to be paid in full and I was worried that once our gazebo was done, and if there were any issues afterwards we would be out of luck. Well, our gazebo was delivered, built and completed by Merv and his crew. We had a small issue that needed to be resolved and without any backpedaling, doubletalk or empty promises, we were given a return date and all was done to our satisfaction. B&L Woodworking was recommended to me by a friend. I dealt with Jake, the manager at their site in the Amish Market north of Kingston NJ. I was impressed with the huge array of options, and possibilities for customization. The only difficulty I had was the building permit which took aver 40 days because my Township is slow. I was impressed the way the shed's floor, wall, and roof sections were all pre-fabricated, painted, wrapped in shrink-wrap, brought and unloaded at the site, and then skillfully re-erected on the gravel platform pad that they had put in place earlier. It was a pleasure to watch the building go up. Despite the tight space, there was no damage to tany of he surrounding trees and mature landscaping. B&L also accommodated some customizing details that I wanted at a very reasonable cost. It is a pleasure to have this shed. Quality materials and outstanding craftsmanship. I believe that I got excellent value for the price. I wish I had thought to have this outbuilding years ago. It is such a wonderful enhancement to my garden and outdoor living space. 2 or 3 years ago, we had custom-made bookcases made as well as 4 dining side chairs and 2 dining arm chairs. We selected oak for the bookshelves and gave Jake the sizes. He followed up by asking us whether we would have any of the bookcases adjoining each other - he added molding to the top of the bookcases and made sure the adjoining bookcases had molding which would allow the 2 bookcases to butt each other for an elegant look. We didn't even think of this! Jake also added a vertical shelf in the middle for all the bookcases which were 4 ft in width - otherwise, they would sag. This was done at no additional cost. The dining room chairs were superb as well. They were contoured so that they were extremely comfortable. Also very strong - they do not wiggle at all like most chairs you find in stores. After such a great experience, we ordered outdoor furniture for our deck this past summer. The set consists of a high table and 4 high chairs - very comfortable plus the chairs swivel and rock. I highly recommend B& L Woodworking. I will check with them first for any future furniture needs. read more

After considerable shopping around I purchased a vinyl Quaker shed from Jake at B&L several years ago. Compared to the competition and without question, I find their sheds to be better built and overall the best value. So many shed companies avoid using quality plywood and 2x4's for constructing their sheds but B & L uses higher grade lumber and roofing materials. Regardless of whether you choose wood or vinyl, I strongly recommend purchasing maintenance free steel doors. You will never worry about rot or warping ever again! You won't be disappointed with their work and products. I should also note that they are easily reachable and responsive. Quite recently I contacted Jake and asked if he would temporarily place my shed on my driveway so that I could re-grade the area. They came as scheduled and barely charged to temporarily move the shed and subsequently place it back where it had been. Great sheds, honest business people and excellent customer service! This is my second small barn/shed project with Jake and his crew. Each time, we had to design out-of-the-box, and Jake was open, helpful, and gave a firm quote that I could work with, including swapping some materials/design elements where I thought prudent to save costs. The build team is polite and efficient ... they did well with having me looking over their shoulder and adding extra touches such as insulation (natural product) and a floor other than plywood. On the 2nd project, they came up just short on interior wood siding - which took longer due to me putting in the insulation - and while they left that day, Jake followed up the next morning to let me know the crew would be their the following day to finish - and they did. Clean up was done well also, and the guys will take suggestions. Please note - I did the staining on the exterior to use a more natural product, and I also put on the green metal roof for more shade/rain cover. read more

Wonderful people to work with, they take pride in their work. Very patient, answered all my questions and very understanding to my home life and worked around it which made my life so much easier. I have 2 of their sheds and two twin beds,I dont have any complaints. Everything has held up perfectly. My one shed is 10years old, the other was built on site,which they did for me because I have a fenced in backyard. The twin beds must be 10 years old too, no problems! No leaks, nothing fell off or apart, they were very clean,respectful and cleaned up well. I love this place and highly recommend them. read more

Very happy with my shed. I got the 8x10 budget version to save a little cash since I only needed something simple, but it seems so well made and looks great in my yard! We constructed the foundation ourselves with gravel and treated wood, and topped it with chicken wire to keep out the burrowing critters. B&L placed the shed perfectly centered on the pad, and there wasn't any damage to my lawn. Jake was great to work with and very nice. My dad has one of their sheds and it looks great still after 15+ years. I'd recommend this place if you're within their delivery area! read more

It is heirloom quality as is everything I have purchased from them: cherry wood futon and recliner, china cabinet, windsor bench, and a few other items.
