The company produces hot mix asphalt, crushed limestone, sand and gravel, as well as blast furnace slag as its primary products. Buffalo Crushed Stone supplies materials for airport runways, building construction, state and local highways, the construction of interstates, commercial parking lots, residential driveways and numerous other types of projects. All materials are New York and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation approved. Buffalo Crushed Stone, Inc. began in 1904 with one quarry on Wehrle Drive, founded by James Savage. The original product was cut stone for the many stone houses that dot the Buffalo region. The company has changed ownership a few times since then and has added numerous operations and construction products. In 1982, then owner, Richard Garman acquired the Buffalo Slag Company adding Como Park Quarry, Woodlawn Slag, Franklinville Sand and Gravel, Alfred Sand and Gravel and Olean Blacktop to its operations throughout Western New York. Buffalo Crushed Stone, Inc. was sold to and became a wholly owned subsidiary of New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co., Inc of New Enterprise, PA. in July 2000.
