Do not hire B&D Glass Bock! A unqualified installer came to my beautiful home and proceeded to mess up two window openings. A two year old could have done a better job. Called the owner, who is the biggest a-hole I have ever dealt with, to try and get the situation rectified. I sent pictures and he wanted to have the same installer come out and smear some concrete over everything. After calling him several times, each time he got more rude, he said he would replace the windows. That was just to get me off his back. When the time came to do the work, he said he will see what he can do. At that point I realized that I didn't want his company anyway near my home. I ate the cost. I hired Knight's Glass Block to reinstall everything properly, They did a phenomenal job! The crew they sent are pro's, artist of their trade. They were mortified at the job B&D did. Never showed up after making me wait. Then didn't respond to texts. I contacted Dave who was very confident in what he had to be done when speaking to him on the phone. After talking to a few more people I know that he leans toward charging on the higher end. I wouldn't have minded had he just showed up when he said that he would. Not only did he not show up. Charged me $200 to put in screen and I was left with broken glass in and around the area I had to clean up. The worst part is, I walk over to the window in the middle of winter and a hugh draft is flowing in! Freezing! We call and they supposedly send someone out the next day to fix/seal it. It still was not fixed properly leaving me to figure out how to seal it up. How did they not feel a freezing draft coming in from the top of the window when installing it. These windows are supposed to be energy efficient, all the energy is going right out that window along with the biggest waste of $200!! I would avoid this company. Dave the owner was promt in giving me a quote for a leaking basement window. Had a guarantee the windows are good for the life of the house which was a good selling point but they don't follow through on that promise. Got the work done in February 2017 and still having problems. The employees were very kind in coming out repeatedly to try to seal up leak, which I complied with, but they have just redirected leak. Looked at siding and other avenues for leak. Difficult to assess during rainstorms, so we did an experiment and got on the roof and hosed everything. No leak. Hosed the side of the house. No leak. Hosed where the leak was on the window. LEAK. So then, Dave comes out and quotes me $800 more work on brick tuck pointing and such. Things he said weren't really a problem when he gave me the original quote. Haven't been at the house with him yet, I've tried to ask if he could come out so I could show what we simulated. I've left voicemails and now the voicemail box is full. No thank you, taking my business elsewhere. read more

Hired these guys to install glass block windows in my basement. I sent pictures and was told they would stop by Saturday and measure since the windows are oversized. They said it was ok if I wasn't home. I received a price a week later and approved it. The day before the work was to be done, they stopped by my home as they lost my contact information. A neighbor gave them my number and they texted me that the price would be double because the windows are oversized. When I questioned the increase, he said this was the first time he'd been to my property. Perhaps they're simply disorganized and got my home confused with another but this seemed shady so I cancelled the work. read more

I was looking to have a window replaced with glass blocks and repair about two dozen bricks. When I moved in I called three or four places for the brick work and no one called back or did two weeks later. It didn't give me much confidence in the masonry business. B&D changed that perception. I left a message and in the voicemail, he said they would return my call within 30 minutes. He ended up calling with 10. He also followed up with a quote within two days as promised and the cost was reasonable. The work was excellent to where I couldn't tell what was original and what was brand new. He blend the two together extremely well. He also gave me tips on improvements that I could do myself if I wished. However I want it done correctly, so I'll just have him do it, but I appreciate the advice. Another advantage was I didn't need to be home for the job. I didn't need to take off of work. We just got 7 glass block windows installed in our basement by these guys last week. It all went great, only took around 3 hours, and the price matched the estimate exactly. Before the job, getting an estimate was quick & easy: One of the guys came over, checked out the current windows, and met with us. All our questions were answered, and there were no surprises. He even discussed some competitors with us and admitted some pros & cons between them. On the day of installation, I met one of the guys & quickly went over the job again. I work from home, but I barely knew the crew was here. I peeked in from time to time, and was a little worried to see a mess of glass and wood from my old windows out in the yard while they were working. But, when they let me know the job was done, I handed over a check (which matched the estimate) and then I walked around the house. I saw that they'd cleaned everything up better than they'd found it - no mess, no glass in the yard. Purchasing and scheduling the windows was pretty quick and easy. Installers were on time to replace seven single pane basement windows. Finished product is average for the industry and expectations. After hearing the breaking glass I was curious as to the process so went into the basement to see. The installer was smashing glass (at least it was from the inside out) with nothing to contain it in our finished basement. Asked about clean up and was told it would be broom clean. Not good with pets in the house. Called the owner to inquire and was told "We're a glass company, we break glass". The installer said the same thing later on like it was a company motto! I asked if he knew he was going to break glass shouldn't he have a way to contain it? He became smart-mouthed and I finally said to just get the job done and get out of my house. I've found glass 12 feet away from any windows. I have already picked up several handfuls of glass ind the grass and landscaping. There was even glass on the driveway under their truck bed. Rating of 3 is based on the finished product, just industry average but a poor experience. read more

I hate to drag down his ratings, but I have to. We hired B&D to do our basement glass block windows and almost everything was seriously amazing. He was prompt to estimate, friendly, didn't want a dime until he was done installing and was quick with his install. The windows look great and are very well-done. We were nothing less than completely impressed until after we realized what he left in his wake... The problem was the horrible mess he left us to clean up. He had to dismantle some small framing around the windows and made sure to move the big scraps (into OUR garbage so we can haul it outside ourselves), but left an unbelievable amount of plastic shards, wood shards and concrete globs & dust EVERYWHERE. He didn't use any tarps anywhere, so there's globs and chunks of cement smeared on the walls, ground into the carpet of my partially finished basement and on shelves under the windows. It took a solid hour of me vacuuming, scraping and dusting to make it presentable and there's STILL grey spots on the carpet where the cement is ground-in. The worst part is that he managed to get shrapnel behind one of the panels on my basement wall that was loose, so it's pushed out and uneven a few inches away from the wall. I will literally have to remove that panel, scrape out & remove whatever crap is stuck back there and re-nail the panel onto the wall. Ridiculous. If he had used tarps, none of this would be an issue. I seriously can't say enough about his niceness, prompt communication, punctuality and the quality of the windows - but make sure he cleans up or uses tarps if you hire him. read more

DO NOT RETAIN THIS COMPANY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Hiring B & D Glass Block was one of the worst mistakes I've ever made. Mr. Smolka's workers "installed" eight glass block basement windows at my house. If properly installed, the cement around the windows should be 3 inches thick (the same as the depth of the glass block). Less than 1-inch of cement was used, and the cement cracked within 24 hours of installation. While installed the windows, the workers knocked existing brick loose on the side of the house, and then hastily put it back in, such that the bricks were uneven and sticking out multiple inches from the side of he home. The workers also damaged the existing cement ledges, the "new" glass block windows stuck out from each ledge by several inches, and glass, cement, and other debris was left EVERYWHERE, inside and outside the home, with little to cleanup performed. I had to hire a separate glass block window company to replace every single glass block window "installed" by these charlatans. This was after multiple companies told us that the job performed by B & D Glass Block was horrible and structurally inadequate. In fact, one glass block professional told us that it was the worst glass block window installation job that he had seen in his professional career. I also had to hire a brick company to replace the bricks that B & D Glass Block knocked loose. Dave claimed that the price for the glass block window installation also included grinding and tuckpointing work. The employee who did this work used "Quikrete" brand just add water cement, rather than mortar as any reputable company would use. Also, the worker failed to do any grinding as promised. Instead of grinding out the old mortar and putting in new, he slapped some white, bumpy, awful looking and crumbly to the touch Quikrete on top of existing gray mortar, and he smeared it ALL OVER THE BRICKS. The work performed is technically deficient and aesthetically terrible. Ultimately, I had to hire a third party to remove the "tuckpointing" smear from the brick with an acid solution, at great additional expense. After the job was performed, I left a voice message for Mr. Smolka explaining the numerous technical and other deficiencies in the work performed. Mr. Smolka returned my initial phone call, and said that he would return the next week to view the work that was performed and to remediate any problems. He asked me to send him photos via text message, which I did. However, after that intiial discussion, he failed to appear as promised and refused to answer or return any of my numerous subsequent telephone calls. Based upon the fact that the subsequent calls went to voice message after 1-2 rings, he appears that he blocked my telephone number. I also subsequently learned that despite the fact that the web site for this company claims that it is "licensed and insured," neither the company nor its owner has a license with the State of Michigan,. read more

They disrespected my home, they disrespected me. I don't want them to fix anything in fear they will screw things up even more. The installers were great (clean, laidback, trustworthy) They remembered to be cautious while removing the old and putting in the new windows. He called back and said he could do both windows for around 250 dollars, so we set up a time for both. I had a question and called him the day before, someone picked up and all I could hear was someone sounding drunk. So I waited a few minutes called back and left a voice message. He returned my call later, so I figured I must have gotten the wrong number. The next day I received a call from a relative who he was supposed to do first saying that he never showed up and said he was too busy to do both jobs, and could she call me and tell me he cancelled. I was outraged and called him. He acted like nothing was wrong and why should I be upset when both parties had to re-schedule appointments to accommodate his time frame. He is without a conscience, acts like he is on some kind of drugs and everything is just cool man! I have never had the misfortune of dealing with such an inept unprofessional in my life! I was satisfied with the price so I scheduled an appointment on a Friday for them to come out & do the install. I took the day off from work and waited for them to call or show up...and waited, and waited. Finally around 2 PM I tried to call them to find out if they were running behind or what. I got no answer & their voice mail was full so I couldn't even leave a message. They never ended up showing or even calling me back. Needless to say I called another company and they came out the very next day to take measurements & setup a follow up appointment for the install. Oh, and they gave me a much cheaper price. This company is unreliable. I called in early August to reserve a spot for a Saturday in mid-September. That Saturday came and no one showed up. When I called Dave to find out what was going on I was told someone should have called me the day before to tell me they were behind schedule due to the weather and I was being bumped. Bumped? I booked this appointment 6 weeks out...how could I be the one being bumped (by the way, the weather that day was gorgeous, so it is not like they were not doing installs on that very day). And we were in need of this job being done within a certain time-frame based on our basement being finished--which I explained to him multiple times. He then promised to fit me in the next Wednesday afternoon. I took then took that afternoon off of work to meet the crew. 10 minutes before they were supposed to arrive I got a phone call from the installers saying there was an emergency and they had to cancel. Cancel again? I called Dave and expressed my frustration and anger and asked why he could not send another crew out to my house that day...perhaps "bump" someone else since he felt the need to bump me in the past. He said he could not. I then asked if he could please, in order to make things right, ensure I got a crew sent out that Saturday morning. He said no. So in other words because I was pro-active and booked a contractor 6 weeks out, I first got bumped and then got ignored for requests to make the situation right. We hired B & D Glass Block Windows to replace three basement windows with glass block and one bathroom window with glass block. Should have been a simple project. Dave the owner said it should be no problem with the job. That is the last part of this project that was simple. Dave sent just one installer out to do the job. The windows that he was putting weighted more than he did. He started by breaking all the glass in the old windows out on to a blanket on the floor. Leaving small slivers of glass that we vacuumed up over the next week. Then with a crow bar and hammer he started beating on the steel frame trying to get it out. By doing this, he busted the mortar around the window frame and outer brick around the window. We were told that some of this would happen, but not as bad as it turned out. In calling Dave he promise that it would be taken care of. Finally the installer finished the basement windows and we thought they looked pretty good. The key word being "looked". I was then informed that he did not have the right window for the bathroom and would have to come back. Dave called and said for us to pay for what he had done and when they came back to pay the balance. MY SECOND MISTAKE. For the next three day I tried calling Dave to find out where and when my project would be done. I never received a call back and never had my second window installed. A few days later it rained. I got a call at work from my wife saying that one of the basement windows was leaking and we had water all over the basement floor. When I got home I found that the mortar had broke and needed to be redone. I called Dave right away and left a message that we had a problem. He NEVER called back. I had to use a different phone with a different number so he would pick up. Of course he said he would get right out and fix it. As I write this review the mortar is still broke and I my be caller my lawyer. I said earlier that my second mistake was paying him for part of the job , MY FIRST MISTAKE WAS HIRING B&D GLASS BLOCK.
