I can't speak for the entire hospital but the maternity ward / reception is scary. Frightening is a…read morebetter word and if you're considering using they're service to bring a new life into this world proceed with caution. Try and get as much research done and don't be fooled into a drug free natural child birth the patient care here is primitive and outright dangerous on the mother and new born. Not all women are cut out to deliver the way cavemen did thousands of years ago and this place will allow you and your child to go the edge of potential life-threatening circumstances before considering a cesarean (you know the modern way). If you can avoid this place please do. Consider your child's life and give them a chance for a healthy life and don't come here. The maternity ward was disorganized, uses a paper system, allows far too many students to practice on women in labor and won't pay attention to women in labor unless they complain and are facing dangerous levels of fatal results on the child. The place was empty and they wanted to send a women in the mid stages of labor home if that says anything. And to add insult to injury someone had the bright idea to select the buildings housing the maternity ward and recovery rooms face a large cemetery located across a small street (see photo below). Just what you want to see if you were lucky enough to survive the labor process.

Thank god for Volvat. Maybe I am just used to better health care and nicer doctors having grown up…read morein the states, but jesus, it seems like the "fastleger" in Norway just don't give a shit and only became doctors for the money. If you have a problem that takes more than 10 minutes to figure out, tough luck. Make yourself another appointment for the next available time, which might be in a month from now if you are lucky. But then there is Volvat. Yes, I have had to shell out a few thousand a year just to pay for the care I want, but it's worth it. Every time I go to a doctor in this country, I get nervous that they are going to scold me for something that has nothing to do with my health except when I go to Volvat. I know they are going to listen to me and my concerns even if they dont agree with them. I know they are going to explain to me whats going on English if need be. I know I am not going to be rushed to get through eveything in 10 mins or less. If I need an appointment that day, I can just show up and be seen within 20 minutes (I am a member so this goes faster for me). I have had a couple of bad experiences with a coupld of doctors. For my first annual check up, I felt the doctor concentrated solely on checking my boobs and telling me I was overweight and needed to go on a no carb diet and cut out all fruit even though I was perfectly healthy and could run 10km in less than an hour. But when I complained about him, there was actually someone there that took my complaint and I believed them when they said they would look into it. Where do you go to complain about a fastlege and then get the feeling your complaint was taken seriously? I never have seen him there again. I just cant say enough about this place and am so thankful that it is here. They really have saved my life a couple of times. When I just cant take the stress of going to my fastlege, I know I can go to Volvat and get the treatment that anyone should expect from their doctor. Now, if Norway could just figure out a way to get fastleger to behave the way the doctors do at Volvat.

I met with a foot therapist and they said I need a surgeon. Now my toe is infected and I received zero reimbursement after complaining. Unprofessional and uneducated establishment.

Everyone spoke both Norwegian as well as English which made communication and understanding really pleasant. I was ther alone without family or friends for 5 days until I was flown back to the USA....NURSES AND PHYSICAL THERAPIST WERE REALLY LOVELY AND TRIED TO BE HELPFUL. Food was nothing to write home about but that was secondary to my recuperation. Internet was extremely slow but it did work...upon coming home my American doctor said they did a great job...should have aged fir a plastic surgeon so the scarring would not be as visible or for many more tiny stitches but all in all if you need orthopedic surgery I would recommend. Place is immaculate
