The team was so hospitable. The wines (2 whites, 2 reds, and a Malbec-based rose) lovely. I explored everything--the modern art, the colorful flowers, the lower pond. The view is beautiful and definitely worth the stop. The wine was decent, but it felt expensive at $31 for every bottle. Unlike other wine tastings, Azura has you walk up to get each tasting. This would've been fine but there wasn't enough space for all the guests and people were constantly trying to grab your table from you. read more

We make this part of our annual fall trip through Paonia, and it has been a must-visit on our list for several reasons. The view is unlike any other. Beautiful mountains in the background, a small private lake, the perfect wine tasting setting. We usually do a tasting for $10 and it gets us 5 wine tastes and a glass. Then we always finish with a full pour of our selected wine. This past time, we went and sat down by the water and it was the perfect fall day. First of all, approaching the winery was like rolling up to an Italian villa, with beautiful grounds and lush landscaping. The wine tasting was very reasonably priced, with the ability to sample 4 different wines for $10, and even included the glass. They were all very well done, and I honestly liked everything I tried. I settled for the yacht club red for my full glass, and settled down under their pergola patio, which sported incredible views and offered shade as well. We were really impressed with everything, and while we didn't get food, we came back with 2 bottles of the Yacht Club Red, as it's only available at the vineyard and not distributed locally. Such a lovely experience! We just came in for wine tasting but had such a great time chatting with the woman who was serving us (I believe she was the owner's daughter, if you haven't met her you need to--she's so friendly and hilarious). We also had a great time talking with a few other people who were visiting. It's rare that you not only get to taste good wine but also enjoy such great company--it felt like we were at an intimate family gathering in the best way. That being said, the wine was great too. They aren't a formal winery but that doesn't stop them from making great tasting wines. Best of all, the atmosphere is very laid back and welcoming, and the wine is not ridiculously expensive like you may find at other wineries. My husband and I loved getting to visit here and highly recommend stopping in for a tasting, a few bottles or a glass of wine on the patio (it's so beautiful here). Now don't get me wrong - this area is stunningly beautiful as far as scenery goes however, I did NOT anticipate to find the beautiful within Azura Cellars property. Upon entry you swear you have been transported to another world - it is simply stunning what the owners have done to the property. The other wineries in town do not even begin to compare. There is ample seating, classy furnishings, and the view I mean, WOWZA!!! The owner was very helpful to my husband and I and we really enjoyed hearing about the wines (and tasting) but also the property and the art displayed inside (not cheap but incredible). We finally chose to buy a bottle of Pinot Noir. We had the bottle opened and we made our way out on to the patio. We could have sat for hours! And to be honest having wine here was a great way to spend my birthday afternoon let alone any other day of the week//month/year. My husband and I were in the area and upon a strong suggestion from the manager of an Airbnb we were staying at, we decided to give in and take their recommendation. We are glad we did! First of all, the grounds of Azura are lovely. There's a nice outdoor seating area with gorgeous views of the mountains. There's also a yacht club for mini yacht boats on an onsite pond. It's just a pretty place to enjoy wine and walk around. The tasting room is a decent size and has really neat pieces of art. There is also awesome locally made jewelry for sale. We went when it first opened on a Saturday and it wasn't busy at all. The wines were decent; it was more of the experience that we enjoyed the most (note - we are super picky about wines) but I can't say they were bad. I definitely wouldn't dock any stars due to our pickiness ;) However, I would go back should I find myself in the area, so I hope that helps with knowing the quality of the wines. The reps onsite helped us to know which winery to venture off to after we were done with our tasting. They were all very kind and helpful. All in all, a lovely experience and I recommended giving it a try if you're considering going wine tasting in Paonia! read more

What a beautiful winery in CO, who knew. I had never bought CO wine before. We made the day trip from Crested Butte, was a great drive and day. We had a fun tasting, all the wines were good. We bought a bottle of Yacht Club Red. The grounds are so beautiful. We were lucky to meet the owner, Helen Gillespie. She was such a nice host, she is also an artist. We all loved the gallery. This is a great spot to take a picnic and try wines, the grounds are so nice, reminds me of Southern France. This is my new spot to take friends visiting, the drive is worth it. read more

Azura Cellars is a beautiful spot in Paonia. And not only is the view gorgeous, but they have lots of fun things happening. For example they built a mini "Yacht Club" on the property where they race motorized yachts throughout the summer. There is also a built-in art gallery on the property. The woman we did our tasting with mentioned that they were artists who bought a winery and you can see that the two are given equal attention in the space. While they don't grow any of their own grapes, a majority of them come from Colorado still, mostly from the Palisade area. And Sir Nicholas really enjoyed the Yacht Club red, a blend they make, so much so that we left with a bottle. Azura is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area and enjoy wine! read more

Probably the best Colorado wine I've had to date, and can hold its own with California wines. The place is beautiful, with local art, and the patio has wonderful views of the valley. I don't eat chocolate, but bought a bottle of the chocolate merlot sauce for my mom. Apparently it's so good, she has already requested I send more. Only downfall is the portal potties. The Traveling Winers on Colorado Wine Trail Azura Cellars was an unique visit as the owners, although we did not get to meet them, apparently are both artists, sailors and winemakers. Very fun combinations! The tasting room was very modern with interesting pieces of art on display. According to the tasting room host, Tensi, Azura Cellars has been in existence for about 7 years. We also learned that they do not grow any of their own grapes but purchase them from other vineyards in Palisades, CO. The view from this winery is absolutely spectacular. Gorgeous winery. Very similar to many in Napa. The building, gallery, and terrace are all breath taking. They do not grow their own grapes so they put a pond in and have mini-yacht races instead. We enjoyed their wine and their Merlot Chocolate Sauce. read more

Paonia is a terrific place to visit for a day or two. The Azura winery is beautiful once you are inside the premises. The gallery features stunning modern art (I think by the owners) and a neat patio to sit on and sip wine with a fantastic view. The wines we had were great. The one room cottage is very small but elegant. The only downside was the woman hosting that day. She poured one or two drinks and then began sorting leftover recipe cards from a previous event, completely ignoring us. The private residence is on the left when you first enter the patio at the bottom of the stairs. If not for a tiny sign right before entering we would have walked in on the owners. They should put up some kind of decorative fence or wall to keep their private quarters obviously separate. read more
