my mother's cat Trish was ill for several days and I took her to clinic nearby. They were awful so I called Aztec and they were able to see her in urgent care. The staff was immediately responsive and even came and put a blanket over the cats carrier so that she would remain calm. The staff checked on me several times before they came to take her away. Since the doctor was in an emergency. I left her there. Dr. Sadam called me after he evaluated her and told us exactly what he was planning to do and what the cost would be. He was very thoughtful and thorough. They took good care of Trish and I am very pleased. read more

Only downside is that they are a little expensive and it took multiple visits. Took my cat here when I first adopted her. They have a special waiting room just for felines and give you a blanket with pheromones that calms your pet. Services are pricier than other vets but it is WORTH IT! I have been to terrible vets before and I would gladly pay more to have a pet taken well care of. I brought my cat in with post op complications after a dental. I was worried and concerned for her. Dr Wilson came in for the exam and talked about treatment options. When I asked her a simple med clarification question, she snapped at me and got defensive. Then they took my cat in back to get fluids and when she returned, Dr Wilson didn't. She had her tech finish explaining things. Aztec clinic has been good to us over the years, but this vet is very unprofessional and could ruin their reputation. Last weekend I noticed my dog Molly became noticeably lethargic. She didn't want to go on walks like she used to, slept a lot and started refusing food. I waited a day or two to see if she would get a bit better but she did not, so I called Aztec Animal Clinic on Monday for a very last minute appointment because I was getting pretty concerned with her conditions. I was, indeed, very grateful that the staff was able to fit me in that same day afternoon for Molly to see Dr. Bouchet. From the get go, Dr. Bouchet didn't scare Molly and, instead, was patient but also quick to put a plan together on what we may needed to test and the next steps needed to get Molly on a right track. The whole checkup/operations went on over the next few days with some tests, stay/monitoring, an operation and a post-operation check up. They were also able to confirm a few things I didn't know about Molly either (for example, I adopted her from a shelter but there was no confirmation that she was spayed despite a scar on her stomach; Aztec was able to confirm that...and gave her a tattoo so it was never a question again!). also appreciated that the staff there was honest in their communications. They let you know whether they found/not found what was suspected to be the root causes..and for that..I have to say I trusted the clinic more for being honest about their operations. It's been just a few days since her operations and I'm pretty glad that Molly got better....and very almost back to her normal energetic/barky/whiny self! On a side note, I also have to say...the clinic has a good, kind vibe..and even my dog Molly probably knew it. Molly is usually a pretty anxious dog and can get pretty aggressive, especially with strangers and/or other dogs. So, I was actually pretty concerned about how Molly would deal with being at a clinic for an extended period. To my pleasant surprise, Molly was sweet, calm and nice around those (people/dogs) who greeted her. This confirmed my decision to make this place a go to clinic for both my dogs through the time I'm in ABQ with my two naughty munchkins for sure! read more

Our gecko was killed because of a lack of experience, the doctor made us wait two weeks for a prolapse which emergency services recommended doing it within 48 hours not only was the service and tech's terrible but we also lost a beloved pet. Also came here about 3 years back for one of my tame female crested geckos, she came out traumatized and had a completely change in behavior after coming here. I have had several dogs and we have been at different vet clinics- I can't say enough good things about Aztec. They are consistently good, caring, thorough and ALWAYS follow up. I have had good care other places, but it has sometimes waxed and waned, which is understandable based on busyness, staffing, etc, but Aztec is always providing consistent quality care- that is so reassuring and I can always depend on them. Recently our dog was bitten in her trachea by a bee or wasp and had intense throat swelling and hives. She was seen by Dr. Jones who stabilized her with steroids and Benadryl but instructed us to call immediately if she started having a productive cough. Of course she did on a Saturday late morning but because of Dr. Jones's thorough notes and treatment plan the covering doc immediately prescribed the medicine without us needing to be seen and we were able to get the meds an hour later. Very, very happy that Dr. Natalie Wilson of Aztec Animal Clinic is my cat's veterinarian now that we've arrived here in ABQ. Dr Wilson is very warm and welcoming, truly takes a genuine interest, has a sense of humor, and gives excellent guidance in really good balance with supporting pet human in making care decisions and choices. Dr Wilson listens well and explains things clearly. Staff and veterinarians are super well adjusted to running in and out of the clinic because of COVID prohibitions against pets and humans waiting in the lobby (except for just one staff member who seemed to be having a grumpy day). I've been taking my pets to this practice for 30 years. My dog died over night a couple of months ago. I called Aztec for help. I was put on hold. I guess a dead dog is not urgent. When they came to the phone they never offered one word of sympathy nor who they were talking to. Never asked my pet's name. Instead they offered to sell me a variety of over-priced cremation packages and told me cheerfully to "just drop her by". This is a 70 pound animal who hemorrhaged over night. "just dropping her by" was not an option. I called the City and they were appropriately sympathetic. This practice should be called a bank. They are over priced and only want to sell services. They are not a partner in your pet's health. They are a service provider who are out to get caring people to fork over the maximum amount of money they think they can squeeze out. They are still sending notices about my dog's annual checkups. Take your pet there if you have nothing but money and expect the vet to put as much concern into your animal's wellbeing as they do buying a bag of potato chips. read more

I can't give enough stars for how good of an experience I've had with Aztec this week. My old boy really declined and ended up needing to be put to sleep. From my initial visit with Dr Pease to another doctor who helped with the procedure, I was treated with compassion and helped though this horrible time. When I moved to Albuquerque in 2013, I knew I would have to find care for my pitbull, Sally. We have had negative experiences in the past at offices since she is an "aggressive breed" from being asked to enter through side entrances or sit in a waiting area away from the other animals. Our first impression of Aztec was warm and welcoming. We were never approached with judgement and they saw my Sally as the wonderful dog that she is. We saw Dr. Bouchet our first time and he immediately sat on the floor with her and gave her a ton of positive attention. From then on we have referred all of our friends and family to this office. I am very disappointed in the veterinary care I recently received at Aztec Animal Clinic. I have been a longtime client at this clinic and have received good care over the years but something has changed. The care I've been getting lately for my dogs feels more like expensive well-care and is not what I am seeking for my dogs. I can't help but notice lots of staff changes lately. I am writing this review in hopes that Aztec will make positive changes toward improvement in client service delivery. I recently had a sick dog whose first symptom was chronic diarrhea. The wait time between appointments, test results, and communication was unacceptable. After weeks of trying various things and waiting for test results, I was referred to a specialist. Not knowing it was an overloaded specialty practice, I had hopes that the specialist would diagnose the problem quickly. Initial test results run at the specialty clinic showed deterioration but no immediate diagnosis was forthcoming. All this time, my dog continued to physically decline. No one acted as if she was urgently sick. I felt very anxious during all this waiting and watching her get worse every day. However, I thought this was still the fastest path to success for her because Aztec knows her and had done all the testing to rule out obvious issues. She was now in the hands of a specialist! My dog died 7 weeks after the initial vet visit. No definitive diagnosis was completed and certainly nothing was provided to make her well. I suspect she died in pain. This is what I wish had happened. The veterinarian would have recognized how sick she was. The veterinarian would have triaged my dog appropriately for the dog, not for the veterinary practice. Once the first possible diagnosis turned out to be a dead end, the veterinarian would have stopped the treatment and collaborated with others (including colleagues inside and outside of the clinic) to develop an alternative diagnosis. Veterinarians at the clinic would have teamed with each other to continue diagnosis and treatment because there is an urgently sick dog at the practice. The veterinarian would have known that the veterinary specialty clinic was overloaded and not referred us since she was too sick to wait. When a dog is sick or declining, the situation calls for more attention. Messages relayed and a 24-48 hour callback are not working for sick dogs. After this experience, I have to make a change. I need more than well-care and testing services at my veterinary clinic. I need a practice that will work the hard diagnostic problems as well. So I am leaving this practice, hoping to get better support for my next sick dog. I still grieve for my girl. She deserved better. read more

After being worried by another vet, I took my beloved dog to Aztec to see Dr. Blossum. Frankly, I was pretty scared about a lump she had attached to a rib, and Dr. Blossum was kind, calm, professional and explained everything to me as we went along. My dog stayed calm and happy throughout because everything was kind, slow and gentle. She actually showed me what the costs would be ( in advance!) and then proceeded to do a test that showed the lump was likely not malignant. Dr. Blossum said if we needed to do more tests in the future, they have a modern set of diagnostic equipment to make it easy. I felt like crying for joy right there in the exam room. I was so impressed with this place, especially after the previous vet did nothing and even when I begged them to do a test on the lump they refused. So as a result I had spent months worrying. Needless to say, I will be taking my animals to Aztec from now on. Oh, and they sent me and my dog a thank you type card via email tonight after our visit. Wow. read more

This is my sweet girl Ellie May. See her beautiful white muzzle? She is my old girl who spent two months in a cage before I pulled her out in SLC, UT. SHE was traumatized from the experience Being in a cage with barking animals echoing through the cement walls, she still has anxiety. She is 12+. CLIENT BEWARE; Do not bring your dog here if she has high anxiety, even if you are directed to give her drugs that relax her such as Trazadone and Gabapentin. Because even if you follow regimen, they will take her out of your sight and she will freak out. I asked them if she could be taken care of from the car and they said it was against their policy. She has history of being there before Covid19 completely freaking out. And so with out me this time, it was even worse. She had to be coerced into the clinic and I can only imagine how horrible it was for her. She ended up freaking out so much that she bashed her head into the cabinets and bled from her nose, as told to me by the veterinarian. So the vet wanted to hold her for a couple of hours to observe her. So more stress in a cage. Is that the best choice for a 12 year old lab mix who, last time we were there, was basically frothing from the mouth from being there? I was furious and demanded her release. This poor review is because Aztec has failed to consider that some animals (especially special needs animals such as rescues who were deemed unadoptable at some point) cannot handle being isolated alone in a cold room without their owners. Aztec Animal Clinic has a strict policy of not treating animals from the car, I have learned, and now so more because of Covid19. This review also highlights Aztec's desire to cover up their poor treatment of my old girl. So people with masks and gloves from clinics around the world go out to automobiles to test and treat humans. This was an incredibly traumatizing situation for my old companion. It is my hope that they will rethink their policy and also, if they're that concerned by the virus, that they consider not sending their technician out to hand off My dog to me with a mask, and yet, no gloves. BTW, the technician Caitlyn was the only professional who empathized. She was incredibly considerate. In summary, Aztec Animal clinic's policy is a cold way to treat animals in distress. I hate giving bad reviews but honestly, the experience I had was extremely poor. Animals are complex emotional beings. Some of them have special circumstances that need consideration. One size does not fit all. UPDATE: Benoit of Aztec Animal Clinic denies that she bashed her head into the cabinet even though the Vet, Dr Pease, and the vet tech explained this to me over the phone. Do not think your animal is safe with these people. They have no cameras and they demand you wait outside. I once loved Aztec. Dr. Diego was amazing.
