Nevertheless, it serves the residents of the local area and visitors passing through. On my visit today I noticed two very nice playground areas that should please any child. There's also two separate picnic places sheltered from the weather. Men's and ladies restrooms are onsite. Additionally, there's a paved basketball court. Overall, I consider this a nice addition to the city ( or town as you prefer) and a park to be proud of.

Big rig friendly and staff is very friendly, grounds are kept quite clean. Very easy to maneuver our 43ft Class A Coach. Checked in, they gave me the "Rules & Regs" information, car tag and things of interest in the Gaffney area. We stayed for a week in Premium site #316, overlooking the pond. Simply beautiful!! They have a couple of ducks & geese around but they were not pests. Owners have a routine schedule of feeding them. Fun to watch. There is a section for "longer term stays".... but they were quiet and those we met, as we took walks, were friendly. They have a pool, mini-golf and there are walking trails around the 3 ponds. Careful... use exit #90, the exit GPS says us sometimes closed. Advise that you call the Campground to get construction updates.

Given the way it's angled, the leaf at the top is hard to see, and from the angles you'd likely be looking at it from, you might think it looks like something other than a peach. There is a restaurant next door which as of this writing is defunct. There's not much else nearby, but the couple of parking spots and small park set up around the peachoid make it clear that it's here to be visited. There are a few fruit trees, including some peaches, though the fruit appeared to have a high rate of getting hit by various blights. Natural part of a tropical climate I guess, but not an inspiring sight.

Because it honors the importance of peaches to this area. People who just pass by this water tank are amazed by it. Back in time, fifty some odd years ago peaches were the king crop in Gaffney, S.C. Textiles were the biggest employers but the peach industry was right behind. Back in the day peaches from this area were known for being gigantic and so tasty and in my opinion the best in the world. Millwood Park (even though not specifically specified) honors Cherokee County, S.C. and the peach farmers themselves and the folks that worked the fields and made this industry and park possible. This park also allows folks who would like to photograph the Peachoid water tank an excellent view to do so. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit.

It turns out that there's a park here and it's neat. A gate at the front with a pedestrian entrance but locked to prevent vehicles. Past the barrier, no benches or picnic table but there are plaques that point out this is Millwood Park and why. One reads, "In 1975, Board of Public Works Chairman Jack E. Millwood had an idea to build a landmark at the eastern end of South Carolina Highway 11. Around the same time, it was determined that a water tank was needed to increase the water pressure and flow in the Interstate 85 area. Combining both of these considerations, the idea for the Peachoid was born. And because of Mr. Millwood's ingenuity, a plain, functional water tower was turned into a landmark."
