The food at this Peruvian restaurant was delicious. The decor is modern and upscale, with really cool little recessed spotlights all over the ceiling, a huge open bar in the middle and photographs of Peruvian sites papering one wall. We sat underneath Machu Picchu.
The sushi menus featured big, colorful photos that really called out to me, but my family told me we came here to eat Peruvian food, so I chose the Ceviche Clasico Peruano. Not only did it look beautiful, it tasted amazing. I removed the thing circle of red pepper that I was told was very spicy. The leche de tigre was so flavorful. I loved eating each bite of fish with the two different types of corn that came with it: the crunchy corn kernels of 'cancha' (so good!) and the huge corn kernels of 'choclo aromatizado.' Once I finished those, though, eating just the fish without the corn lost its appeal. The cubes of fish were not uniform and many were just too big for my taste. However, I did experience one of the best flavor combinations so far in my life: the 'camote glaseado' (glazed sweet potato?) dipped into the leche de tigre. I could have easily eaten a bowl of that by itself!
The servers loaded our table with little rolls that my children loved and which tasted very good dipped into a green sauce left on the table. The restaurant kindly prepared a to-order kid-friendly dish of calamari, shrimp and fish with a butter sauce on the side and plain rice. This was great as we didn't want to give them any of the 3 children's meals listed which all seemed to be a variation of chicken nuggets.
I'm still not used to being served bottled water but I must say that the glass bottle of Patagonian rainforest water was delightful, perhaps because I pretended for a moment that I was in a forest... is that what tourists experience when they buy bottled Florida spring water at Publix?!
We ordered a mango mousse type of dessert and a dessert flight of 4 items, which included a warm sort of rice pudding, a tres leches cake, a dark berry mousse and something caramel-ly. None of them knocked my socks off.
The only issue I had with this restaurant was that the staff completely disappeared towards the end of our meal. No one even came into the dining room at all for a long time for us for any of the other tables, who were also walking around and pacing the room waiting. This was odd because up until then service was very prompt. read more
