From what I understand there were several people that were told to take out Plus loans before graduating even though the administration said that all the bills were paid up for the students. A little background, I already had a gunsmith business and an FFL before starting this course. I had quite a bit of experience with firearms ahead of time and did this course just to broaden my horizons and gain more knowledge. I wouldn't recommend this course for someone just starting off in the industry and it is kind of a waste of money to get your foot in the door. A person would be better served getting an entry level job at a gun shop or manufacturer. It is very hard to learn how to gunsmith a firearm through texts and videos, and they tell young students how this will get them started.. but I just don't think that is true. $9,000 is a lot of money and can buy you a lot of tools and books to get started on your own. If you can find an attend a hands on class, I would recommend that instead. The Good: -The courses do provide a wealth of information if you read everything and save the books. It is a great overview of firearms, especially for someone who has little to no experience with them. -The courses are extremely easy and require little to no effort to pass (good or bad depending on who you are and your goals) -On-line flexibility with the classes and they are extremely forgiving with late work or unforeseen circumstances. -With the program you get to build a firearm, but if you are doing this course just to build a firearm... you are wasting about $8400. Just beware it is a very basic rifle with very basic parts. The Bad: -Extremely expensive for what it is. -With minimal hands on, there is absolutely no way you are going to learn much about actual gunsmithing. It is an extremely hands on process and you can really only learn by doing. Of course it is an on-line program, but still they should try to provide more hands on opportunities. -The text books are OK, but the videos are all on YouTube and not professionally done or anything. They could certainly do better with production for the amount of money that are charging students. -They provide a laptop that doesn't work very well and they just sent it to me and didn't offer me a choice to not get it. So I have a garbage laptop that I was forced to pay for and didn't need. -They provide you with a very basic tool set that you could piece together for about $200, which is a little weak considering you are paying almost $10,000 for this school. -The school kind of feels like they pray on military/veterans and their GI Bills. Overall it wasn't a bad experience, but I would be thoroughly disappointed if I had zero experience with firearms. I would have also been disappointed if I spent my money on this instead of using my GI Bill.

Now in my current classes I had to buy a dremmel for a project even though the school provides one in my next class where they are supposed to teach us how to use them on firearms. So essentially you're being forced to use tools and do work with little training, and you're graded, the. You will get trained and provided the materials after you've already ruined a firearm and failed at learning how to use the tools in the class. Every "lecture" is really just a bunch of bullet points and there is zero chance your teacher is actually teaching you, instead you'll get a email from them reiterating the projects they assign rather than actually teaching you what your doing. You're also going to be expected to do the work your learning to do on your own firearms, and you get one week for each project with no learning curve or practice if you've never done these things before. This school is a scam and waste of money. If you're going to do a gunsmith school I suggest somewhere else. Even the local gunsmiths in my area recommend AGI over this school, and better yet apprenticeship or other schools. You're better off finding a different school than Sonoran Desert Institute. They are nothing but a fraud stealing money from veteran and the VA.

What stood out the most to me, I had attended Indiana University, U of Evansville and when I went back to school due to convenience and my constant need to study, I had many profs that were superior to what I had received at a Big 10 school. Further, I finished my degree, mostly online with ASU and NAU and -- I'm speaking to the Soc. Dept. -- they were amazing! Also took some graduate work from there, but was in my late 50's when I graduated and I still want to finish my Masters and you know what I want next! I had two women prof, part of NAU, needed to lose their job. At PVCC and at art classes in Scottsdale, they did their job. I had some crap profs in Bloomington and you know how it goes, you usually have to teach entry level one of the semester unless you are the dept. head. I'm quite proud of our large community college system and the variety of careers that came from them and will continue = hoping most go on to higher education. Just keep learning, every day, in some way. Make your own homework, you don't have to be signed up. Graduated with mucho Honors, the way old ladies do.

Rio Salado College holds a special place in my heart as it is by far outright horrible in every way imaginable. The online teachers clearly do not care about their jobs and they do not care at all about their students. Check out Rio Salado on RateMyProfessor.com and you'll find that there is no lack of source material about how much the majority of the teachers suck. Expect email response times from your beloved teachers here to exceed a week. Perhaps you'll get one of the professors that requires a ridiculously impractical amount of work for their class, or maybe you'll get one that grades so harshly that one seemingly menial assignment will ruin your chances of passing the class entirely. Or if you are lucky enough, you will get one of the professors that, in their laziness and pride, would rather threaten to fail you for "misunderstanding the assignment" or concept or what have you, than accept the possibility that their class material lacks clarity. Experiences such as these are why I strongly advise never attending this school. Additionally, the online school websites are wildly out of date, adding another layer of unnecessary complexity to whole thing... And next comes the administration and the financial aid office. These people are just plain unorganized and idiotic. I don't know what they have going on in their offices, but I have not received financial aid 2 months after I should've because they "lost" my documents somehow. After re-sending them on multiple occasions, still no luck. Maybe I do just have bad luck, but there is clear and abundant evidence online. Instead of flushing your money down the toilet, save your money for a real school. Rio Salado is a joke.

She had no availabilities, so she added me to their wait list which already had 10 people on it. I had been here for a cleaning a few years earlier, with no wait, so I wasn't expecting a wait list. It would have been nice if I had been informed about that when I called a week or two prior with a few questions. But alas, this is the New America, where information no longer is forth coming without pulling teeth (no pun intended). A week and a half later, on a Monday, I called to find out what my status was. There were 3 people ahead of me. That means that in one week, they took 7 people off the list and I was at #4. It is now April 3rd and I've yet to receive any call from this school. I came into Phx special for getting my teeth cleaned. I'm leaving tomorrow because it's more than obvious that they have no interest in calling me. This time around the experience with this school has been 180 degrees different than the first time. The lack of communication, and the pitiful "explanation" given me when I called a week after the first status check just screams that management has changed. In addition, that friendly person I spoke with the first time couldn't have been Shanna as the person I spoke with the 2 subsequent times was seriously not friendly. Thank you Rio Salado Dental Clinic for wasting my time and energy. I wish you bad karma.

What I like about this school compared with others is that the students do the entire cleaning in 1 visit. At other schools you have to come back, some, several visits. She just graduated from the Phoenix location, and it was not a good experience. More expensive than other schools She did NOT pass the NCLEX the first time. I had to get a tutor (varsity tutors) and UWORLD. She passed after all of the extra help and she was on the honor roll more than one semester. The turnaround of instructors was mind blowing. Be prepared to see instructors on Friday, never to be seen again on Monday. I offered certified therapy dogs to visit during finals AND THEY TURNED IT DOWN. I was shocked. And disgusted. Look for other options. This review will be everywhere it can be... One last thing. During the graduation ceremony, they chose a student to make a speech. It was ALL ABOUT HIM AND TRULY AN EMBARRASSMENT. They should have reviewed it before allowing it...
