Jason and his team shot our wedding in August 2021. From initially reaching out in 2019 to the day of the wedding, Jason was very responsive, accommodating, and professional. We appreciated how level-headed and calm Jason and his 2nd shooter, Jeremy, were on our wedding day despite us falling behind schedule and so many things going wrong. They were so professional and made sure we got the shots we wanted. There were two specific shots we wanted and discussed with Jason and he made sure to capture them beautifully. The end result of our highlight video was beautiful and we can't wait to make it a yearly tradition to watch it on every anniversary. I loved working with Awkward Turtle for my wedding. They are my favorite wedding vendor! I reached out to AT (worked with Jason) last year 2018 to discuss the different rates and services they could provide for my wedding in March 2019. They were very responsive and quick to get back to me. Their prices are competitive and totally worth it. Quick run down: Vietnamese Tea Ceremony- They knew exactly what to capture and were very professional. Not only that, but my mom was very pleased with the outcome of the tea ceremony with them. Ceremony: AT was on time and was able to scope out the wedding venue before the bridal party came. AT pays very close attention to detail which all showed in our wedding video. We also had a live saxophonist who played all our music during the ceremony, and AT was able to use my saxophonist music in our ceremony video. Reception: In our reception video, AT captured EVERYTHING we wanted without us having to specificity. I loved their editing style, from the slow mo's to the fast pace video style. Since I got married in March, the start of wedding season, I was able to get my teaser, highlight, ceremony, & reception video a little over a month. Now that is what I call a quick turn over, given that we we got married before the crazy wedding season. My sister used Awkward Turtle Media for their wedding at a vineyard in Pleasanton a few weeks ago. I was shocked that within a few weeks they would have a number of the photos ready to preview and wow do they look wonderful! Andy was crawling all over the place to get a shot. I remember thinking um, that's going to look weird and then he would show us the photo and us being like, oh damn. Where do we even begin? Jason and his team were an absolute pleasure to work with! From the initial consultation, to the prep work leading up to our big day, to the actual shooting of the big day...everything went smoothly. My wife and I were very happy with the end product that we got back! We spoke with quite a few videographers in the Bay Area and while they were all very good, there was something uniquely special that just "clicked" when we spoke with Jason and team. I'll break up this review into a few buckets - as I think there are a lot of things that go into a review of a wedding vendor. Overall, if you are okay waiting a long time for your video and don't mind following-up quite frequently, it's a nice video for the money. Quality of Work: 4 out of 5 Day-of: 5 out of 5 Cost: 4 out of 5 Customer Service: 2 out of 5 Quality of work: The video quality is great. They used a drone to capture the venue and had some really wonderful shots of us and all different aspects of our wedding. The editing was good, but based on below comments, I felt like they rushed through the edits and could have spent more time. Day-of: They were great - punctual, kind, resourceful, easygoing. Really nice guys to have around. Cost: Very competitive and well-priced. For the video quality, their pricing was great. In retrospect, I would have spent a little more to get our video quicker and with less follow-up. Customer Service: This was the most difficult aspect of working with Awkward Turtle. There were many issues involving mis-communication and poor customer service. Examples include: failing to let us pick our own music and delivering the news after we sent our music selections post-wedding (big deal for us), extreme delays on email replies, long lead time to receive final full edit (9 months.) We were consistently following up with them via email. Still haven't received our final DVD. My advice to the AT team would be to hire someone to be in charge of office duties: scheduling, contract agreements, emails, follow-up, etc. It's a bit of a mess and pretty frustrating. I get it's a new company, but I think having someone in charge of the customer service would be a big help. We hired Awkward Turtle Media as our videographers for our wedding, and we are fairly happy with the results. Jason and his team arrived on time at the wedding venue, and all of them were extremely friendly and easy to speak with. We were incredibly happy to see that they brought a drone and was able to shoot some video from the sky of our beautiful venue. They were fun to have around taking video and were easy going and joked around with us, easing some of the nerves of the day. They covered everything we wanted and captured some truly amazing moments. We were not certainly not disappointed with the results when we received our highlights video, we absolutely love it! The reasons for 4-stars (wish there was a 4.5 stars) are that communication seemed to be a bit slow. When we were corresponding over email, I was never sure who I was speaking with (they didn't use a name). I was also disappointed to see that my name was misspelled in our highlights video (and was misspelled a few other times in e-mails as well), delaying the process of sharing the video with our family and friends. It may seem silly to some, but a small detail like that can be extremely crucial and important to a client. After waiting months to get the finished product, to have the first thing be a misspelling was a little disappointing. Where do I start, when I saw Awkward Turtles work I knew I had to have them! I showed my husband some of their work and he was AMAZED... I talked to my then fiancé and he agreed to meet with Andy (we had already booked a videographer) so he kept telling me we needed to go with what we had (we were prob already over our budget but I knew I'd regret it in the future). I left that day a bit disappointed because I knew there was no way we could fit it into our budget. Our wedding was this past Saturday and we hired Awkward Turtle Media to cover the videography portion of the wedding. We looked around at a few different videographers, but the Awkward team's portfolio was by far the most impressive and the cost was very reasonable. We absolutely made the right choice! These guys are highly skilled with a keen eye for amazing shots! We had 4 videographers working that day: Andy, Jason, David and Jordan. Each individual was constantly busy throughout the 9-10 hour day. They requested that we provide them with a couple slow songs and upbeat songs ahead of time so that they can visualize and set the pace of the video. I love the fact that we are able to use our own songs as it makes the video much more personal. Having 4 videographers, they were able to shoot both the guys and girls getting ready at the same time. The team is very knowledgeable and knew what shots would look good, so they simply just gave us instructions as to what to do, which made it much easier on us. Our wedding was a haunted themed wedding and they put together a Freddy Krueger countdown to start off our video, which we absolutely LOVED. We surprised my wife with a Same Day Edit video presentation and my wife got so excited seeing the countdown (link to the video below). Andy slaved a good 8 hours during the wedding putting together the amazing same day edit video. I wanted to incorporate a little bit of my car in the video and they knew exactly what angles and shots to take. My wife didn't care much when I told her I wanted the car in the video initially, but when she saw the car in the video, she actually liked it because the Awkward crew shot it so well! This team is very professional and at the same time, treated me like I was one of their good friends, which made me feel really comfortable around them. The same day edit video was so well put together that I had 3 friends ask me for Awkward Turtle Media's information as they were interested in possibly hiring them for their upcoming wedding as well. My husband and I were truly amazed at what they were able to do. Jason and Andy were really professional and attentive to what we wanted. Awkward TM.... AWESOME TEAM! We were referred to them by our friends wedding the year before. Their process to book was very easy. Packages were all fairly priced and a lot of choices to choose from. On the day of our wedding they asked what songs we liked so they knew how to shoot the video. When they arrived, I was pretty impressed. They were able to communicate to each other via walkie-talkie. So my wife and I wouldn't run into each other in the hotel. They split up to cover the grooms side and the brides side. Way more proactive then I've seen before. The ideas they came up with to shoot were really innovative. They were polite and courteous to everyone and super professional. Video quality came out excellent. Nothing short of amazing! Leo and his team were awesome! We hired Leo expecting 2 camera men, he showed up on our wedding day with an extra guy and we felt like celebrities with these guys following us around all day. We used awkward turtle media to capture our wedding on July 1 2016. I can't say enough amazing things about this team of talented individuals. They really know weddings and what the perfect shot looks like. Andy, Jason, Dara and Zeek were our guys for the day and I couldn't have been more happy with them! They were so professional, they made us feel so comfortable throughout the whole day and were hilarious too! I also was very impressed by their communication throughout this whole process. They made us feel very confident in their work and what they were going to do for our wedding before our day even arrived. Our day started at the hotel bridal suite in the morning the guys arrived and they were so prepared and ready to start our day. They knew exactly what videos they wanted to take and were open to hear any ideas we had. I loved how they took control when they needed to but then also sat back and it was almost as if they weren't there at times. My soon to be husband was staying at the same hotel as us so the guys made sure that we never saw each other that whole morning before our ceremony. The guys would go between my room and my husbands and would make sure they filmed both of us. It was the perfect amount of time for both of us and they didn't miss a thing. When we got to the venue the guys were waiting for us. They took a lot of footage of us getting ready and knew exactly which pictures to take in the bridal suite. The first look with my dad was something I really wanted to do. I was nervous my dad wouldn't put the microphone on but they did it with no problem. It made our first look so much more touching and it will be something I will watch and remember forever. You can tell that these guys really love what they do and they know how to ease a lot of stress and nerves I felt during our day. When I was standing in the bridal suite getting ready to walk down the aisle I was super nervous. They were all with me and I said "I can't believe how nervous I am is this normal?" I will always remember what Jason said to me which was " if you weren't nervous you should be worried, being nervous really means that this is real and your true love." I will always remember his words because with that if gave me a sense of ease and made me realize he is right. I should instead embrace the nerves and realize what this day is all about. Throughout the ceremony and reception the guys were beyond wonderful. They knew when the perfect times were so they would sneak us out for a quick photo shoot and it would be just enough time to snap some pictures and then return back to our guests. I think the reason it all ran so smoothly was because of how talented these guys are. They have an eye for photography and videography and they know exactly what to do and where we should stand to take the perfect picture. I could not imagine having anyone else doing our wedding for us. Awkward turtle media are amazing individuals who love and have a passion for their work. I can't believe how many compliments we received during and after our event about our photographer and videographers. They said during the event they were so polite, professional, and you could tell how much they cared for us as a couple and wanted our day to be perfect. After searching and searching for the best videographers out there for our wedding I found Awkward Turtle. I read their reviews and watched their previous work and decided they were our guys to get the job done. Andy is great to communicate by both Text and E-mail so thats a huge plus (at least for me it was). As a bride you always second guess yourself, "Did I make the right choice?" "Will we enjoy having them around us for over 10hrs?" Omg girls...and guys...don't second guess yourself with them. All the guys are amazingggg! And even sometimes they are so 'invisible' with their work that you don't even realize they are around recording. I honestly don't even remember seeing them around me at all, but after watching my S.D.E clearly they where by my side A-LOT! lol Our S.D.E was a hugeeee highlight at our wedding. Sometimes people wait up to 3 months or more to get a highlight video and Andy and their team get it done in less than 24hrs! They amazed me and I cannot thank them enough for capturing such great moments and combining them into such a amazing video that captured everyones hearts. Finding the perfect vendors for your wedding day can be the most stressful thing ever, and after finding them, you still worry and stress about how good they will be. Well worry no more! i'm the one person who worries over every little detail, but when my husband and I met Andy, my husband told me "these guys know their sh*t, and I think that whatever they produce for us will have us watching it forever." There truly was something special about these awkward turtles and during the 9 months until our wedding, we truly realized how special they were. Andy and his team would follow up with us, let us know that they got some cool new toys and would be using it at our wedding, and this got us super excited and realized that they weren't just a group of people that were trying to get by with the simplest things, but they wanted our day to be above and beyond our expectations! They really didn't have to do any of this for us, but as artists, they wanted to make sure their work was going to exceed their own expectations. So everything sounds great..did they meet their expectations the day of the wedding? Lets see: -They got to our house before 6am. -They had 2 people with my husband and 2 with me, in addition they had walkie talkies to better communicate with each other. -They were patient when things ran late, they helped out when things were difficult. -They had a drone that circled around so they could capture aerial images. -I don't think they ever ate, because they wanted to make sure they captured enough videos for our Same Day Edit. -They had mics for my husband and I, so during our ceremony they were able to capture the voice with the highest quality and you can see that in our same day edit. -They went with us to take pictures, when they didn't have to. -They got to the reception early to work with the manager to make sure everything was set up and good for the projector and sound. -They worked with the DJ to help him set up as well. -When we found out the projector didn't work, Andy just told me not to worry about it, but also kept me updated to make sure that I was still in the loop and knew what was going on. All in all...They spent 17 hours with us, created a same day edit that WOWed my marketing team and comments such as "I can't believe they were able to create all that in one day," "Are you sure these guys are wedding videographers? I"m sure they're like producers or something," "OMG, i couldn't stop watching your same day edit, it made me cry over and over again." Andy and his team are absolutely amazing! We hired them 1 week before our wedding and I am so grateful they were still available for our special day. From the moment they arrived they made us all feel comfortable even with cameras all around. I was so worried about making sure he got shots that he wanted or needed but as soon as they got there he said not to worry that they would take care of everything, and they were on it! They are very professional and so easy to work with. We were really lucky to have amazing vendors for our wedding all-around, but ATM was definitely one of our favorite favorite favorites!! For my husband and I, videography and photography was one of our major wedding priorities, so we started the search quite early. We came across ATM through a coworker who was in the wedding party of Katrina+Alan back in 2013. We watched their SDE and already loved it through the effects, the audio, the perspective in camera shots, and overall everything! We reached out to Andy to set up a google hang-out meeting (since we were planning from Boston for our wedding in SF) and we were able to meet Andy and Jason. On first impression, they seemed to be really fun and chill guys--someone you could see yourself being around all day (after all, if chosen, they WILL be with you all day!). We mentioned some videography things we liked that we didn't see in their work at that time 2013, like stop-motion, time-lapse, aerial shots, and they were super open to all of those techniques--and to our surprise and excitement, as we continued to follow their work (after deciding to go with ATM), we saw ALL of those elements being incorporated into different videos moving forward! They genuinely have passion for their work and are always striving to be better than their best and whatever else that is already out there. We knew we wanted a SDE and we had a long day ahead, so we chose the all-day package + SDE. We discussed our schedule leading up to the day and warned them it would be a long day and everything may be a little tight; they were completely flexible and even showed up 1 hour earlier than contracted for to make sure they captured all the shots they wanted to in order to produce a great video. We were thrilled and super appreciate their dedication to their art! On the day-of, ATM came with a team of 4: Jason, Andy, Dara, and Jordan. They were all professionally dressed in all black and truly were stealth-like in working with our photographer (Jasmine Lee Photography) as well as working around guests and family. Their professionalism was truly impressive, with their secret-service-like earpieces to communicate within themselves. They really are the total package of a videography team: great perspective, approachable personalities, hard-working, innovative, fun, determined, and overall professional-to-the-max. We admire their drive and feel really grateful that we are part of their portfolio and have these priceless memories for a lifetime! I hired Awkward Turtle Media for my wedding which was just last month 10/21/2012. I new instantly they were the videographers that i wanted given the work I seen on their website. I thought they did a wonderful job with Susan and Steven wedding video clip as the captured each special moments with bride and groom from getting dress (detailed with rings, dress, tux, makeup, hair) along with the special Asian moments from the tea ceremony, walking down the aisle, exchanging rings, receptions, and games they had at their wedding. I was blown away so I called and spoke with Andy To and set the time and pricing AFFORDABLE! What I was really impressed about was the day before my wedding when Andy called me to ask me where would I be at from 6am to 10am (typical Asian wedding usually requires the bride to wake up 4am in the morning to get ready for tea ceremony and where the groom picks up the bride) however, my was planned differently and I didn't need Andy to start until 10am. Andy and his working partner, Jason came at 9:30am where he start shooting me for my make up/hair. First my family, fiance, and I thought, whoa- these two guys are young- we weren't sure if they knew what they were doing but they were VERY professional, always coming up with new ideas for our video, down to earth, and SUPER easy to work with. They made us feel really COMFORTABLE with the cameras and for people to shoot on your wedding day you have to expect that it was going to be in your face. Surprisingly, the whole time I didn't really notice they were there and I wasn't even distracted by them. They were absolutely GREAT. Now, when I got my highlighted video, it was freaking AMAZING!!! In a short video, they captured every special moment ! I was so impressed that I literally watched it 30 times when I first got it. My now husband, said I was OBSESSED with it. How can you not when they did such a wonderful and perfect job. Andy To and the rest of Awkward Turtle Media were amazing!, we hired them for our wedding on 7/13/13. It was last minute after our first videographer dissapeared on us, took our deposit and never heard from him. Awkward Turtle Media were able to provide their services 110% and understood everything that we had in mind, they had a ton of brilliant ideas on their own. Andy To and his team are not your basic videographers, these guys do such great work. They have a never ending vision which makes them stand out from everyone else. These guys are so amazing I just had to write another review for them. Since my wedding last year I've attended two weddings in which Awkward Turtle Media were the videographers. Both times their SDE videos were super awesome. I loved how they are really able to capture the couples personalities and show it in their videos. I am so glad my close friends booked them as well because I'm sure they felt the same way I did when I saw my wedding video, and that is super grateful and happy because the videos were so great. I love seeing them at the weddings I attend to because I get really excited to see the videos because I know it will be nothing short of perfection. read more
