Say goodbye to getting anything done on Wednesday evenings. I have been wanting to go check out Barn Jam litterally for years down at Awendaw Green. I even had a friend play there one night which I obviously would have gone to but had already committed to an evening of volunteering... boring. Some friends of mine were recently religious about going to Barn Jam on Wednesdays so this week I made it out there. What an amazing group of people who put this together. I think it would be impossible to not have fun out here. It used to be free with donations accepted but has changed to a $5 cover, which I will gladly pay to do whatever I can to keep this gem going. I even got to watch a pregnant goat just chow down on paper like it was her job! This is one of those place you almost want to keep to yourself so nobody ruins it, but I ain't stingy - come enjoy. Make sure to BYOB though cause I only brought enough beer for me.

Great music venue! It was a fun and inviting crowd. Local artists every Wednesday night - $5 admission. I believe there were 5 groups/artists scheduled last night. The first - Dean Johanesen - http://www.reverbnation.com/deanjohanesen was excellent! The second group not so much, third didn't show so Dean played an encore which was great. 4th group also very good but we left before their set was done. So,..... talent is hit or miss but still a good time. Crowd was small early on, but filled up quickly. Lots of outdoor seating and picnic tables. There is some food (pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs) for sale. We brought a small cooler with some beverages with us and bought some food. Next time, thing we'll bring a meal/sandwiches and drinks and sit at one of the picnic tables and enjoy the show. We'll be back!

I dig this place... a hidden, local treasure on Wednesday nights (well, when it isn't cold as heck outside). Wednesday's is their Barn Jam... they bring in a ton of really talented, musicians... and usually an eclectic group at that. Pack up a cooler with brews and snacks... bc it is BYOB. And don't forget your chair, so you can really soak up the experience. The concert is under the cover of some beautiful SC oaks in a good ol' fashion barn stage. They typically have bon fires burning, pizza if you forget a snack (or just want some really good pizza), great tunes, and solid people. If you get a chance when it warms up, give it a Wednesday. You won't regret it.

Whaaaaaat?!?! Wednesday night Barn Jam?!?? One visit and I'm hooked. Located in what feels like the middle of nowhere, but it's a relatively short drive from Mt P and IOP, this musical magic land did not disappoint!! Visiting bands rotate through the evening starting at 6pm. And transition between sets was quick. It felt like five concerts in one night. It almost feels like a campground with the huge trees hovering over, some string lights scattered around and the pond nearby. There are picnic tables, swinging benches, rows of chairs and bench seats as well as some random adirondack chairs and rockers on the grounds. But bring your own seats just in case!! For a $5 cover you get to enjoy some super fun music, kids can run around and act crazy on the toys and playground equipment, random wildlife (ducks!!) wander around waiting for snacks (probably best not to feed them but ...), complementary bug spray (yes!) a few food tents in case you're hungry and (drumroll ....) it's BYOB. I definitely recommend attending the Barn Jam and will probably see you there.

Every time I come out here, it's an awesome time! Various bands play in about 45 minute increments starting at 6 pm on Wednesday nights. I love sitting under the oaks next to the lake, maybe by a firepit, listening to great musicians. $5 donation, bring your own beverage of choice, and there's food for sale and other craft vendors. Plenty of parking in the nearby grassy areas.

It almost feels like they're annoyed people actually spend money there. I normally would feel bad leaving a negative review, but after reading multiple similar experiences, I honestly have no sympathy left. Hopefully this saves another group from wasting their time and money here. Our bachelor party spent roughly $700+ attending a show here. We were already admitted, had wristbands on, and before even entering the actual bar area, two of us were standing outside having a calm private conversation. We were not yelling, arguing, intoxicated, or causing any disturbance whatsoever. Out of nowhere, the owner approached us and immediately started asking strange, intrusive questions like, "Who are you guys?" The interaction quickly escalated into him screaming at us to "get off his porch" despite the fact that we were already paying customers admitted into the venue. The whole experience was bizarre, hostile, and incredibly unprofessional. There's a difference between maintaining security and going on a power trip. Plenty of bars in the area know how to treat customers with basic respect without creating unnecessary confrontations. For a place that depends on people spending money to survive, they do an impressive job making customers never want to come back.

The Charleston Music Hall itself is a beautiful, historic venue--intimate, well-maintained, and known for hosting concerts, comedy shows, and special events. The seating is comfortable, sightlines are good, and acoustics are solid, which definitely worked in favor of the vocal performances. The singers were clearly talented and did a great job vocally--everyone sounded wonderful, and there's no denying the performers can sing. However, we personally felt that the show didn't quite feel like a full "production." It leaned heavily on straightforward singing, with limited storytelling, choreography, or theatrical elements to tie everything together. This may come down to expectations and personal preference. Growing up around Broadway shows in NYC, we're used to more dynamic, story-driven performances with larger production value, and this didn't quite meet that standard for us. While others may enjoy it for the music and holiday spirit--especially in a cozy venue like the Charleston Music Hall--we would probably not attend again, particularly considering the ticket price.
