The danger in awarding someone an object, it seems to me, is in the weight of the success the object represents. So the craftsman better be good. I'd surmise that the owner of A-1, who was very friendly and approachable, has made his share of mistakes over the years. Imagine crafting some grand award and noticing afterwards that you misspelled the owner's name during the engraving, costing you all of that effort and time and material. I noted a hardened aspect to his personality, like he'd been there and done that too many times, crafting an expert. I don't know about you, but I like spending my money on experts. A-1 has a wide selection of products to honor any occasion or personality, and if they don't carry it, they'll order it from the web pronto. My modest trophy, a medal, was a fantastic deal, less than $15. It was ready in about four days which was crucial, as the ceremony was fast approaching. Another solid local find on Yelp. I ordered the trophy from this shop, and the lady at the counter told me it would be two to three days until it was done. Over the course of the next 20 days I called and went in repeatedly, trying to pick up the little trophy. The owner always had some excuse why she didn't have it done; too busy with a giant order, the supplier was behind and didn't have the right trophy in stock, etc. etc. She always said it would only be another day or so, and that she would call me to let me know it was done. Well, she never called, and she didn't answer the phone when I called. Of course she never returned my messages either. I wound up just giving a the check to the petsitter without the trophy, but that felt so impersonal. I really, really wish the trophy shop hadn't dropped the ball. This was SUPER important to me to thank the person who saved my dog's life properly, and the woman at the trophy shop really let me down. : (
