I boil with envy that west siders have such an incredible public park they can visit while I have to drive 40 minutes to get here! Every time I come here, I am always happy to see lots of people utilizing the park. There's a beautiful pagoda, a new and extensive playground, and a great walking trails around the very clean lake. The Berea Public Library is also in this complex, which I will also be giving its own review of 5 stars! I guess Berea resident's tax dollars are being used more wisely than those of us on the east side, haha!

Now, the shallow part of the lake where most people swim has fish, however, they are not that big. The fish may brush past you but it is no big deal, they can't hurt you. Now, it is time for WHY I DON'T SWIM IN THE DEEP PART OF THE LAKE!!!! The fish in the deep part of the lake are COLOSSAL and they can latch on to you. Examples of the fish are catfish and GIANT carp. There was one lady that told me and my family that one time she was on top of a raft just vibing and a carp jumped on her which knocked her off the raft and she received a bruise from it . After the fish jumped on her, her sons practically wrestled the fish and brought it to shore, below is the image of the carp. Personally, I do get a bit startled by fish brushing past me, but it's nothing compared to what people have to endure in the deep section of the lake lol.

The toilets at the campsite were cleaned out every morning we were there. It also felt safe, it gave a sense of being more remote because of the tree density, but not so much that I was worried about anything. The lake is beautiful, they had kayaking available which was fun! No swimming in the lake though. But there were plenty of of other campers who were out fishing at the lake. I would definitely recommend camping here! I wish we could have checked out more of the trails around. Overall rating: 5/5 stars

Which was kind of a bummer because I wanted to try it. Overall the cabin that we had our picnic in was clean and well kept. This place is great for fishing, hiking and canoeing. It looks like you are able to rent the canoes to go fishing on the lake or bring your own. The boathouse wasn't open to find out any more info on this campsite but I would recommend taking a look at it.

It never ceases to amaze. The parking is never ending. The beach goes on forever. There is an abundance of picnic areas, grills, pavilions, and public bathrooms. The walking trails are more than a mile long. And then there is the lake... that big beautiful lake. It is just a fantastic place to spend a day. Go with friends. Take your kids and grandkids. Or just go by yourself and enjoy the sand. It really is fantastic.

There are several entrance to walk out on the beach with restrooms on the edge. To walk to the beach you go through the sand dunes so you feel like you are on a true vacation. The beach is very big. Lots of cool rocks and beach glass to look for. We saw people wind surfing, jet sking and swimming. The water was rougher than we are used to but the kids had life jackets so no issues. Suggest wear good water shoes because there are lots of rocks in the sand.

There is a main trail that loops around and borders the lake. Most of the rim there is foliage blocking the view but there are a few open spots and the overlook spot if you want a view of the lake. I would recommend verring onto the Northern Harrier Trail which was our favorite. Felt very whimsical with all of the wildflowers and deer. This is an excellent spot for birding. Saw a few groups with binoculars. I broke our my bird call app and had dozens of birds identified that we then tried to find. Very fun! The trail itself is pretty short but it's worth doing a few laps if you've got the time. Or taking it really slow to soak it up. There is large parking lot available. Google maps takes you right to it.

What a glorious setting: sitting high above the valley, above the quarries where the canal stones were hewn, nearly two centuries ago. Surrounded by trees, but with a few large, grassy areas carved out it is perfect for hiking, picnics, bird-watching, fishing. Barred owls sit in the pines, small-mouth bass and bluegill rise to a #18 Parachute Adams and a hiking trail connects you with the rest of the park. I can stand at the south-east edge, casting into the algae-covered waters, and imagine I am high in the Rockies, or perhaps at a private preserve in Scotland. Yet another fine and free benefit afforded by this, our great democracy.
