Avista is over charging it's customers I just got a$266 bill. I wasn't home last billing period or the one before. Previous billing period $200. No refrigerator,no water heater, heat set on 51*. I requested a true meter read and they said no. They are making up the prices. Bet if I was home the bill would have been the same. Small two bed,two bath well insulated home. Terrible company that will take advantage of their customers. Received a bill 5 months after a gas line issue, that was buried less than 6" below the surface. Was told we wouldn't be billed for it as it was a mistake by them in the initial installation of the gas line. Fast forward 5 months later, the week before Christmas and they send a bill out right after a wind storm that I'm sure caused them to lose money. So instead they just send out bills to previous claims to cover their hardship and send it down the line. What a joke of a company. read more

An unelected bureaucratic creep sits at a console upping our power line sensitivity, so power will go OUT sooner and STAY OFF longer. This is the 'Green New Deal' on steroids. No consideration whatsoever for pets and disabled people who need electricity to stay alive. They use all the Socialist buzz words ...... abundance of caution ............. keeping us all safe, etc. I've lived 35 years in a nearby suburb of Spokane. We are not in any high-risk danger zones. Yet, we have to bear the burden a woke company places on us. There was a phase outage in my neighborhood yesterday, and this morning my outlets in the bedrooms and my dryer were still not working. I called Avista customer service and Anne walked my through shutting off all the circuit breakers and then shutting the main off and on twice. Everything is now working. She was incredibly calm and sweet, which made a stressful situation more bearable. And I asked what would happen if doing all of the troubleshooting doesn't work, and she explained that she would put in an order and an electrician from Avista would come out to diagnose things and make sure that the issue wasn't on their end. Overall, it was a great experience as a new homeowner who was very stressed. read more

You talk with people who do not speak great english and after you are forced to give a credit card number for "verification" you are thrown into having to listen to advertisements for identity theft protection and other consumer things with monthly fees to get "verification codes" in several parts. If you say no, you dont get that part of the code. So frustrated!!! read more

I have avista for a gas fireplace, which I have not used at all since last year, I have only the pilot light on since last year, my bill has been $35 a month, however, this months bill was $78. I huge increase for no increase in use. I reached out to them and they keep telling me it's because I am using it when I am not. There is a lot of road work going on on my street so I think they just projected what my bill should be based on my use last year. It shows exactly, and I mean exactly, the same usage as this time last year when I was using the fireplace. This year I have not yet used it and had planned on not using it except on Christmas morning for a bit for the atmosphere. Horrible customer service and super expensive. Sadly, there is no one else in this area for natural gas. read more

nearly worthless company, I couldn't be less happy with their service. it really sucks most humans have to deal with subpar companies such as comcast and avista for such important things such as internet and power. 3 and a half hours of no power for them to find out the problem to give us a new estimate of 4 and a half MORE HOURS. did I mention we're 1 of 3 TOTAL power outages in their whole service area and the only outage in Spokane??! terrible terrible terrible service. the sooner a new company takes over this joke of a business the better read more

Yet another wonderful company! Same old story--move in, contact Avista, etc. This one has a twist though, and it goes something like this: Avista found that the gas had been shut off to rental prior to me moving in. They wanted ME to pay the reconnect fee. I refused. It's not my house, I say. Charge it to the owner, I say. After much arguing they agree to let it go and have the gas turned on in my name. Great! Then I start getting the bills--which are only $4. Weird. Ok, whatever. After 4 or so I think this is really weird so I contact Avista and ask them about it. I mean, whatever is running on gas sure isn't using a lot, right? Turns out the gas was NEVER TURNED ON! They've just been billing me for the meter reading (where usage has been zero). It would seem that the only thing in the house is the gas fireplace. Now it makes sense why the damn thing never worked! The rep I talked to told me he could completely cancel the gas but that the next person to turn it on would have to pay all back meter readings. Great, pass it on the next chump! I got a wonderful refund of $4 from the company. read more

I have lived in several different states that much worse weather than we have here with tornado and hurricane like winds those areas did not lose power not at the rate as PAvista=PISS POOR AVISTA. This company has been awful to work with. I moved out of my residence in 2012, I just got a call last week from collections! They wanted to collect on billing from 2013. Trying to collect a bill from me that I didn't even owe is one thing, but it goes deeper. Issues like this effect credit heavily! This my hinder my wife and I from buying a home or getting a good auto loan. Avista cares more about the bottom line than their customers. read more

They claim they don't receive paperwork, they fake documents to prove the customer wrong. They take no ownership of their billing mistakes and place all blame on consumer unless they have a lawyer. They then threaten to cut power or send you to collections. Then they can't even keep power going when their is a wind storm. They called me a liar, I called her a name and hung up. She called back to let me know that she had registered a threat and had suspended my service. These are gangsters! The absolute worst i am a disabled person that doesn't work I was on their comfort billing in July they raised it on me by $23 without telling me. So i continue to pay the amount i have been paying for the last 5 year. They cancelled my comfort bill this month and some how i owe them over $600 i payed $228 dollers. And that was all i have but they won't let me go back to comfort bill till i give them the rest by February 6. I alreay gave them $228 this month i don't have another $376 to give them. Their customer service is horrible! At least four different people including supervisors have been argumentative and arrogant. They want to tell me what we are doing instead of listening to our request. They instantly assume the worst of their customers and became highly indignant when we tried to correct their wrong assumption. Supervisors and managers have been absolutely no help in resolving the issue of our original phone call. All we want is to transfer the power into our name. Dealing with this company is horrible! We are filing a formal complaint now. read more

I am astounded at the lack of care for families without power in freezing temperatures. An early snowstorm has knocked our power line down in our backyard... and although I understand they have many outages to contend with... we have not been able get an "ok" from them to even walk on the ground in our backyard where the line fell. For the first 2 days we were unable to even access our firewood or our car. We were terrified that the ground was electrified. We finally had to pay an electrician to come and verify if the line was live or not just so we could get our car and use our fireplace. I have watched their crews driving by and repairing homes and businesses very close to mine, but every time I call I get told the same story... that their men are working "around the clock", blah blah blah. Then they give us a projected time for the repair... then email us after that deadline comes and goes to tell us it's going to be longer. We're freezing, our kids and pets are beyond frustrated... and I just drove by another of their trucks parked in front of a Subway Sandwich shop. This is NOT ACCEPTABLE. If we were late paying our bill I'm certain there would be NO DELAY on their part to threaten termination of service... but since it's the other way around, and power here is basically a monopoly, I guess we're just a very low priority fror them. This company is a scam, operating under the guise of an energy company that rapes every customer monthly. I was gone for an entire month from my empty apartment, leaving everything off and received a bill for $65. This was my first bill and while I expected to get a small bill this apparently is their MO, to charge first without checking the rates or actual usage of a customer. This is illegal, but they get away with it because we are forced to use them. I live in a low-income complex and being on a fixed income makes it very difficult for me to afford much less others to have wildly fluctuating bills each month. Even on level-pay plans they will raise the bill as others have shared with me and through complaint sites. As companies go they are straight up stealing from customers and charging whatever they want. Report them to the Federal Trade Commission and don't let them get away from fleecing their customers out of their money. read more

This is one of the worst company I've ever dealt with!! I have two meters on my property one for my house the other for my pump house. I get charged an extra $30 a month to have someone come out and read both meters. Well on this last bill. I was charged for the reading and was told it was an actual read but here's the kicker we have almost 3ft of snow down by the pump house meter and there are zero footprints in the snow. So now I'm going to call them and attempt to have that charge removed. I highly doubt they will do it though. read more

Trimmed a tree with advance permission - but left limbs in the street where the postal mail van approaches the mail box on a rural motor route. I have lived in this house for a year and have had my power shut off at least 4 times due to maintenance. I have seen the workers sitting around, talking to their coworkers instead of trying hard to get the job done. The utility workers tore up my walkway without notifying me and I had to call the office to find out what was going on. When there was a gas leak I called and complained, they came out told me their machine didn't detect anything, a few days later they discovered that there was a leak. Another time our power was off and i called the office to ask when the power was supposed to be back on, 8 hours later my power gets turned on and then I get a phone call. Now they are banging on the side of my house during my infant and toddlers nap time, I hope that I never have to deal with this company again. read more

Recently had to shut off my service after living in the same place after 5 years,, due to there old 4 dial meter rapping,, the meter guy was reading my meter wrong..sent me a bill for 1103.99 dollars..they changed out the old meter with a 5 dial..the customer has no rights..even though avista messed up.. and there equipment was out dated,, leading too the meter guy to read my usage wrong... avista new about it for over 2 months before sending me this outrageous bill.. remember the customers have no rights.. something is majorly wrong with this picture.. read more

They should be audited. Families should learn how to read their meters and take pics of meter totals to verify "actual" usage verses what they charge. In this way, they have to justify their fees and actual rates being charged. read more

It is Christmas Eve and my pilot light on my fireplace and hot water heater went out. I called Avista to see if they were available to come and lite them as I was kind of afraid to deal with natural gas. My husband died a year ago and he took care of all of these matters. The lady explained the situation do all the storms they were very busy but she would put me on a list. Within two hours I had both pilot lights lit and instructions on how to do it myself which it is very simple. Wonderful polite knowledgeable group even out on Christmas Eve I thank you so much!!!!! read more

Wish I could give zero stars. This business is a monopoly and every person who uses Avista has had to pay the price for their CEO to have a nice hefty bonus as well as pay for the damages due to storms and such by increasing our rates. This is ridiculous. Ive called and complained many times, emailed complaints, and nothing has been done to stop Avista. Theres no other power company so I have no choice to pay their outrageous prices or go without power. Recently, a home that's not even finished being built with TWO OUTLETS and no other power sources (the construction crew uses propane they bring in for the work) and their bill went from 60 last month to 800 this month. How is that possible???? Something is wrong with this company but the Utilities Traffic Commission is doing nothing. Avista keeps blaming the customers, "this winter was the coldest weve had so that's why your bill was so much higher, you must have don't extra baking this year, your appliances must be running rough using more power" are some of the excuses we have all heard. We need law enforcement to do an investigation into this monopoly. We are getting fed up with this in Spokane and im sure its happening all over wherever Avista can get away with ripping people off! I live in a two bedroom second floor apartment and once I got my bill for 260 this winter I turned off my heaters, insulated every single nook I could, and bought an electric heater. Reduced our energy usage significantly, yet our bill went down 20. We didn't change anything about our home, and it reduced 10 the next month. It doesnt make sense, someone needs to take responsibility and take care of this company before the people do. Avista NEEDS to be shut down, or completely taken over by someone who can actually care about their customers. read more
