I didn't even leave the lot before I decided that I wanted a refund. First, the car wasn't clean so I went back into the pickup area and asked them if it had been cleaned. The man who worked there assured me it had been cleaned. He went out to wipe the car down anyway and then we went our separate ways. Then, I went to load stuff into the vehicle and found SOMEONE ELSE'S LUGGAGE in the trunk. So, I went back again. He took the luggage out and again, we parted ways. As I leave, I get a notification on the dashboard that the key fob battery is low. I return AGAIN, and the man offers to teach me out to use the manual key. I told him that I wouldn't take it unless the key battery was changed. In this day and age, cars need the fob to use all the features! He told me that he didn't have another battery or another car. So, I told him that I wanted a refund. As he was processing my refund, he handed the key to me so I could unload the vehicle. The car door does not open...I try using the manual key. It does not open. The man tried multiple times. It doesn't open. We change the fob battery. It does not open. Then, while on the phone with roadside assistance, he figures out that he gave me the wrong key. Literally, the worst car rental experience I've ever had. read more

I'd highly recommend not renting from this place. I reserved a car for 12/24 at 8am. Showed up and saw the guys who worked there in his car in the lot. We walked in behind him to pick up the car and he immediately said - "why are you here, I called and a car won't be ready until 12." - I had no missed calls. He was very rude at that time but I didn't think much of it. We were his first and only customer. I called before heading back over for 12 and he said we would JUST have to wait - we were behind on a holiday Christmas road trip to visit our elderly mom/grandma for this holidays so we politely asked if he thinks we will get a car on that day. He responds rudely "I'll let you know when I know" and hangs up. We finally called back one last time after 12 and he said he had a car. I asked to confirm if it was what we ordered and he said it was a smaller car so we will have to deal with what's there. We ordered an suv because of the size of our group. I have repeatedly had problems with this location not having any cars, despite the reservation being booked successfully through Avis' web site. It is especially a problem if you are doing it at the last minute. After some phone calls with Avis corporate, it is clear the there is actually zero inventory tracking and Avis literally has no idea whether there is a car available when they take your reservation. They even transferred my reservation to another location which they said had cars, but when I called to check that location did not have any. Bottom line, *always* call these local locations to make sure they have a car for you, betore you build your plans around it and waste your time going over to pick your car up. Go to Enterprise on Northern Boulevard in Roslyn instead, they are super professional and accurately track inventory in their reservation system. read more

This is the worst rental company in the area. The only thing worse than the manager running it is the customer service department for the company. The manager yelled at my husband saying he called to tell him that there wasn't a car for him (although Avis saw cars in the system). He never called my husband. We needed a car and after being berated he finally said he had a car. The car was there the whole time, but the guy was too lazy to process it, so we had to take a filthy car with a cracked windshield and a broken gas flap. When we returned the car to the final destination the guy who took it couldn't believe it was allowed to be rented the way it was because it was unsafe. I tried to address this with corporate and can't seem to get anyone customer service minded in the customer service department. Total incompetence from start to finish. I will never rent from them again. Go to Hertz if you need anything. They are so much better!!! Calling my credit card company now to dispute the charge. read more

Made a reservation for a trip and prepaid in advance. The location called me an hour before closing, the night before I am supposed to pickup for my trip to say they were out of cars. Despite the fact that I prepaid my reservation the manager gave my car to someone who paid more. He then told me he was too busy, couldn't help, and hung up on me. In over a decade of renting with Avis hands down the worst customer experience I've had.- with Avis or anywhere else. I cancelled and moved to enterprise. I got exactly what I planned for. The staff branch was very nice, helpful and friendly. I got the best last minute deal once i knew the night before there's a funeral I had to attend. The only thing it was the limited mileage was only 175 allowances. However my round trip thank God was almost exactly 183 miles. So nothing more than a 2 or 3 bucks. Of course I would go again to rent from that branch but hopefully for a vacation. Much appreciated. read more

Never knew each location was locally run/managed. I always thought Avis and Hertz were the premier rental companies. This location and the person there is horrible. Customer service lacking and complaining constantly. I was just returning and he complained how he will not make a single cent off of my return and rental. I can go on in more detail but honestly don't want to waste my time. I have rent from Avis New Hyde park before and they were fine. I would say stay away from this location. I rent here through Budget (same company?) and Farooq who runs the place is very nice. The underground garage where the cars are is a little spooky, but the car I get is always clean and in good running order. The location is very convenient for me, and it's very close to Roslyn's Village, library, and duck pond park! read more

We rented here when staying on LI for a couple days. Mr. Farooq (at Avis) was very friendly, and the car was very nice. Due to space, the cars are underground when we picked it up, which seemed strange, but the lights came right on when we went to get our car, so this was fine. We didn't experience any of the "bad reviews" online, which initially made me a bit nervous. I wouldn't hesitate to rent from them again, when staying in the area. read more

Do not rent from here. I made a reservation for 10:30am and found out in the morning that I couldn't make it due to work, so I called at 9am and let them know that we will be arriving at noon. When I arrived, the man at the desk found it fit to lecture, complain, and threaten to not honor the reservation because of my arrival time, despite having called beforehand. He was upset that another customer had not shown up for their reservation, and that another customer had not gotten damage waivers and damaged their rentals. No idea what that has to do with me. I rented from this location because no other location within 25 miles had cars. I called several times to make sure they had a car and the owner made sure to hold the car for me. When I arrived the owner made sure I had everything I needed and I picked up the car and left the facility within eight minutes. I highly recommend this location. It is in a shopping center with restaurants. It's hard to see from the street but look for the shopping center. I cannot remember the owner's name but thanks so much for the great service! This is the third time Ive rented a car from the Budget Rental side of this business. Each car used was in excellent condition. The people at the counter, particularly Kevin, were very hospitable and knowledgeable of their business. Check in and checkout went without issue and handled professionally. No nametags, I asked for the manager, a gentleman came over and identified himself as the manger on duty. He was dressed in dungarees and a tee shirt. Worst car rental I've ever had. I dealt with Fauroke (however you spell it)I booked this car because I was on a time limit. I booked it 3 weeks in advance. I get a voicemail 2 hours before I'm supposed to pick it up saying it didn't come in and will call when it's in. I went down to figure out what's up and the first thing he says is "what you don't have a phone" then I told him do you? Because I called you back 3 times he responded I must of been out. 2 hours later the car is finally in then he tells me you can't pay with debit even though I pre paid 3 weeks ago and they never mentioned anything. To make a long story short they made me cancel the reservation then wouldn't honor the price I originally booked it at then told me I can't rent a car because of computer problems. Called budget and put them on the phone and they said it's impossible to rent it to me because it was listed as rented from my old order. I did not get the car had to rent it from hicksville budget. Then when I passed the Roslyn Avis on the way home I saw he rented the van. Faurooke you truly suck and you should be fired. I'll never use Avis again anyone looking to rent a car for a good price don't go here it's not worth the headache. I had to pay an extra 200 because it was a same day rental. Tried to charge more money than in rental contract. Refused to explain the discrepancy. Refused to provide me with receipt (claimed the printer is broken!), promised to email it (never happened!).
